About tracee

I am the great granddaughter of Gus and Ana Spitzmiller and the granddaughter of Barbara and Gordon Spitzmiller--on the Lorens side. My Dad was Chris Lorens and he was picked from this County to go to the Olympics. I now live in California and recently inherited my dad's property. I have 4 cabins on 6 acres and this is the 1st one remodeled. It is awesome!!!

tracee purchased this cabin in 1890

Why tracee chose Grand Lake

Because it is gorgeous and has everything anyone would ever want to feel at home, but in total luxury. You will love the fine wood furniture and the cashmere throw and the art in both the finishing and decor and in the location and view. Enjoy my home!

What makes this cabin unique

Just remodeled-- central heat, fireplace with wood included-- fully furnished and equipped, incl a W/D. Egyptian linens, towels, etc. travetine bath and seamless glass shower. Art everywhere and vintage wood furnishings. oriental rugs--just homey and beautiful and luxurious.

Best we've stayed at in Grand Lake so far

Best we've stayed at in Grand Lake so far

Great spot with that mountain cabin feel. Open space to let dogs run around and right by the river as it runs into the lake, so good spot to launch your kayak too. Good amenities including dishes, bake ware and basics (coffee, sugar and some food supplies like emergency soups!). Close to town. Comfy beds and quality linens.

Didn't miss not having a TV for a few days, though wifi would have been good (though I understand it is not offered at this location by providers). Mobile hotspot via phone worked just fine. The loft bedroom is open plan which might not work for all and the sloped ceiling makes it tight (at 6'3" I am used to this but my wife at 5'3" smacked her head hard).

Busy season I'd imagine the cabins on the other side of the river might be busy, but when we went it was nice and quiet. The owner was very responsive and helpful. We've stayed in 4 or 5 locations up in Grand Lake and this is our favorite so far!

Nice Place

  • 4 of 5
We had a great time. The house is so close to the river you can hear it rushing when the door are open. Amazing! The canoeing on the lake was super fun, lots of islands to row around to find adventure. The house is cozy and comfortable with a newly renovated bathroom, very nice. The beds were crazy comfortable. A very relaxing and comfortable weekend. Thanks for sharing your home.

Rustic cabin

  • 2 of 5
I did not feel this property was at all how it was described. It is on the river, however you can't even see it because it is hidden by very tall brush. Also, the description represents seclusion and privacy. There are other cabins right there, and it is right next to the highway. They forgot to mention that in the ad. Additionally, the property was not clean. It could use a really good deep cleaning. But, it was very dusty and dingy. The fact that there is no tv has nothing to do with the location. There are lots of properties there which have satellite. We would never go back to this property.

Owner's Response: We were distressed Carlene did not like our cabin, and called her right away about her concerns.
We discussed that while she says in her review the property is not as described, her real issue was that we do not have TV. We spent the summer last year begging Comcast for cable to our cabins, but they just aren't to our meadow yet. They are trying, and have made it to the cabins across the river from us-17 units on 5 ac.--but not us. We do, however, disclose that on the site. Many of our guests seem to enjoy the family time and games, swing sets, and canoes (that are included in the rate) and getting their kids "unplugged" for a few days, from what we've gleaned from others' comments.
We have a total of 3 cabins on 6 acres. Ms.C. asked we make this clearer on the site, and we will. It is true we primarily use the river side of the 6 acres for the cabins, and there are 2 riverfront, and 1 on a knoll--maybe 150 yards from the other 2.
On the Highway comment, in Grand Lake, if you want to be on the lake side of Hwy 34, you have a stretch ranging from 100 yards wide (closer to town) to 1/3 mile wide (where we are) which is about 2-3 miles from town. We own the entire 1/3 mile of riverfront from the Hwy to the lake and this cabin is 2/3 of the way down the meadow to the lake. To get further from the highway, you would have to stay on the non-lake side of Hwy 34, and back behind the hills.
Bushes are trimmed twice a year, and the river is about 50-75 feet from each riverfront cabin. It is visible from all cabins, and we have swings all around, right next to the river. We even have a canoe dock on the river, with zero gravity reading chairs, and further up 2 Frontgate reclining chairs by the waterfalls. We don't, however, remove the bushes altogether to improve the river view, as we are in the wetlands area, and that is why you will see Moose, Deer, Elk, and Osprey (right out your window) most evenings. If we cut down all the bushes, the wildlife would leave. On the "dusty and dingy" comment, we must strenuously disagree. She focused on cobwebs on the exterior, when I called her. She admitted she had a great time, and enjoyed her early check-in & late check out, as she booked, for free. She also saved the pet fee, as "her dogs don't shed". We do a 3 hour serious cleaning, between guests, as our renovations cost $50K, and we love our cabin. For TV,please consider our residence (adjacent to the meadow, and lakefront), vrbo # 490482--WIFI, and printer too!

Pre-Labor Day Stay

This was an awesome vacation. The cabin leaves nothing to be desired. Every possible comfort is attended and the beds are amazing. The rock fireplace was integral in assuring a cozy mountain atmosphere on a chilly rainy day. We caught fresh trout in the river!

Lakeside/Riverfront home

  • 5 of 5
Two stays in this most pleasant and comfortable rustic lakeside home. In the summer to enjoy hiking, fishing, and breathe clean, clear, pine scented mountain air plus a canoe adventure on Shadow Mountain Lake. Moose, Elk, Foxes and Bob cats and other animals were often seen. It was not uncommon to have one walk through the yard or if you're lucky as I was, to see them swim in the lake. I find the furnishings to be what I will call "cozy-comfortable". The fireplace is exposed to both the living and family rooms. It not only provides plenty of heat but gives one a sense of and reinforces mountain cabin living, and there is plenty of firewood. The shower has two opposed shower heads which provide a comfortable massage sensation. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped . The bedrooms are nicely decorated in a rustic fashion, as is the entire home. I found the bedrooms to be well decorated and the beds to be comfortable. The dining area couldn't be located in a better spot. It sits immediately adjacent to large windows (which actually form one large window) and dramatically overlooks the North Colorado River flowing into Shadow Mountain Lake right in front of you. In the summer it is very common to see people fishing on the river. On one occasion I was fortunate to witness an Osprey dive and capture a fish for dinner from the river directly in front me. It couldn’t be better. My second visit was in the winter. In the summer the view from the backyard balcony (it's actually a raised wooden deck patio with table and chairs) is relaxing, comfortable, and certainly beautiful...but in the winter, with snow on the mountain peaks like frosting on your favorite cake, and snowflakes falling in a lazy seemingly haphazard way covering acres of frozen lake with no footprints revealing the presence of other humans, well...it's breathtaking...it's what a lakefront home in the mountains in winter should be. On occasion, however, you might see someone on a "snowmobile joyride" on the lake. So, if you're into warm mountain summers with plenty of available day adventures, capped by a quiet afternoon/evening sitting on the balcony overlooking the waters of Shadow Mountain Lake, or simply devouring the serene beauty of winter in the Rockies, this is the lakeside stay for you. The price is amazing for the view and luxury of the home. It is 2700 square feet and the deck must be another 1000 square feet. I will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much Mr. Hamilton. You actually stayed in what we call the "Lake House" or vrbo # 490482.

We checked and you stayed in this 3 bedroom on your last visit.

We only note this as it is clear from the comments you were in "The Lake House" this time, and I would want future renters to know, that some of what you describe is only available there and not in the cabins.

For instance, the cabins only have 1 floor to ceiling fireplace, while the lake house has 2, and the WI-FI is and cable TV is only available in the Home vs the cabins.

We are so glad you enjoyed yourself again, and the comments about the wildlife and views are true for the entire property--no matter what size cabin or home you choose.

Thanks again,
Tracee
