I am the great granddaughter of Gus and Ana Spitzmiller and the granddaughter of Barbara and Gordon Spitzmiller--on the Lorens side. My Dad was Chris Lorens and he was picked from this County to go to the Olympics. I now live in California and recently inherited my dad's property. I have 4 cabins on 6 acres and this is the 1st one remodeled. It is awesome!!!

tracee purchased this cabin in 1890

Because it is gorgeous and has everything anyone would ever want to feel at home, but in total luxury. You will love the fine wood furniture and the cashmere throw and the art in both the finishing and decor and in the location and view. Enjoy my home!

Just remodeled-- central heat, fireplace with wood included-- fully furnished and equipped, incl a W/D. Egyptian linens, towels, etc. travetine bath and seamless glass shower. Art everywhere and vintage wood furnishings. oriental rugs--just homey and beautiful and luxurious.

Lakeside/Riverfront home

Two stays in this most pleasant and comfortable rustic lakeside home. In the summer to enjoy hiking, fishing, and breathe clean, clear, pine scented mountain air plus a canoe adventure on Shadow Mountain Lake. Moose, Elk, Foxes and Bob cats and other animals were often seen. It was not uncommon to have one walk through the yard or if you're lucky as I was, to see them swim in the lake. I find the furnishings to be what I will call "cozy-comfortable". The fireplace is exposed to both the living and family rooms. It not only provides plenty of heat but gives one a sense of and reinforces mountain cabin living, and there is plenty of firewood. The shower has two opposed shower heads which provide a comfortable massage sensation. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped . The bedrooms are nicely decorated in a rustic fashion, as is the entire home. I found the bedrooms to be well decorated and the beds to be comfortable. The dining area couldn't be located in a better spot. It sits immediately adjacent to large windows (which actually form one large window) and dramatically overlooks the North Colorado River flowing into Shadow Mountain Lake right in front of you. In the summer it is very common to see people fishing on the river. On one occasion I was fortunate to witness an Osprey dive and capture a fish for dinner from the river directly in front me. It couldn’t be better. My second visit was in the winter. In the summer the view from the backyard balcony (it's actually a raised wooden deck patio with table and chairs) is relaxing, comfortable, and certainly beautiful...but in the winter, with snow on the mountain peaks like frosting on your favorite cake, and snowflakes falling in a lazy seemingly haphazard way covering acres of frozen lake with no footprints revealing the presence of other humans, well...it's breathtaking...it's what a lakefront home in the mountains in winter should be. On occasion, however, you might see someone on a "snowmobile joyride" on the lake. So, if you're into warm mountain summers with plenty of available day adventures, capped by a quiet afternoon/evening sitting on the balcony overlooking the waters of Shadow Mountain Lake, or simply devouring the serene beauty of winter in the Rockies, this is the lakeside stay for you. The price is amazing for the view and luxury of the home. It is 2700 square feet and the deck must be another 1000 square feet. I will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much Mr. Hamilton. You actually stayed in what we call the "Lake House" or vrbo # 490482.

We checked and you stayed in this 3 bedroom on your last visit.

We only note this as it is clear from the comments you were in "The Lake House" this time, and I would want future renters to know, that some of what you describe is only available there and not in the cabins.

For instance, the cabins only have 1 floor to ceiling fireplace, while the lake house has 2, and the WI-FI is and cable TV is only available in the Home vs the cabins.

We are so glad you enjoyed yourself again, and the comments about the wildlife and views are true for the entire property--no matter what size cabin or home you choose.

Thanks again,
Tracee

We stayed here New Years 2013-2014 (two couples w/ dogs) and had an EXCELLENT stay. Tracee was extremely accommodating to our arrival time and we found this riverfront cabin very cozy with comfortable beds, clean fresh linens and plenty of firewood and kindling. This property has wonderful old world charm and a great history to be proud of. The dogs had plenty of room to play in the snow around the property and we walked right out on the frozen lake and watched Grand Lake's fantastic fireworks display on New Years. We spent a day snowshoeing and another snowmobiling (On The Trail** recommended) and never had to drive more than a few miles. We made plenty of meals in the kitchen, and spent many relaxing evenings fireside playing card games. Though the cabin is relatively close to highway 34, we seldom noticed the traffic and found it to be quiet and peaceful.

We had everything we needed for an amazing, memorable stay and would recommend this property to anyone craving to get away and truly enjoy life, the mountains, and good friends without aid of modern distractions like tv's or virtual gadgets.

Owner's Response: Matt and his family and friends were lovely guests. We were happy to help with adjusted check-in and check-out times, and hope they will come back soon.

Family stay in Grand Lake

The pictures and description lead you to believe that the cabin is in a secluded area with the river romantically gurgling in solitude out your back porch. The cabin is just off the highway and you hear road noise more than the river. Although the river is very close, the weeds and overgrown brush make it non viewable from cabin. Additionally, the adjacent cabin is within yards of your front door and a shabby row of small cabins is directly across the narrow river. In all fairness, Tracee has updated the interior of cabin and it is as described. She is also very eager to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. When we arrived we didn't have enough bedding and she quickly had some delivered. However, for the premium price we were paying for the Fourth of July weekend, we felt the exterior could use some mowing, weeding, tlc and a more accurate description of the setting. The hot water heater provided hot water for only a few showers and our family had to always get wet and turn off the water while you lather, rinse quickly, turn off water, etc. I have stayed in shabby hunting camps and stayed in five star hotels. I am a realist but this is the first time I have come with one expectation from description, pictures and price point ...arrived with a totally different impression. Most of the outdoor pictures are not in the vicinity of the cabin. We made the best of it, enjoyed Grand Lake and RMNP. It is close to both and is about 3 miles from town. The long distance ownership from California is apparent and some local oversight and upkeep would help.
Owner's Response: Mr. M. stayed July 1 to 5. While w/ us I personally spoke to him 5 times. He asked for more linens which were promptly provided, even though there are tons of linens, blankets, and comforters for 7 people. No one before him, or after, have ever said they run out of hot water. I do know he broke into the locked, housekeeper linen closet and used linens for 14 in 4 days. He would never say how many people he had in my cabin, but if he was running out of hot water it must have been way over the limit of 7 guests. The cabin is 2 city blocks from the road, but only 50' from the river. Certainly he could hear the river. It is tough to please everyone, as most prefer not being 10 miles out on a County road; and love that we are right on the river and lake-which up here means being w/in 2-3 city blocks of Hwy 34, and 2-3 miles to the town of Grand Lake. We are right where the Colo river enters Shadow Mtn. Lake, and all vrbo location markers, and photos are accurate. The "shabby" units across the river ( as described by Mr. M.) are called Colorado Mtn Adventures and rent for $300/nt. You can look them up yourself, but I would not call them "shabby", AND you really mostly look across to Ntl Forest Service land, and open space to the mountain peaks. I have done more trimming for sight lines along the river, but many prefer the privacy, so we used balance. See new pics of me w/ chain saw-ha.ha. The bottom line, Mr. M got a huge discount at booking, he said his dryer was broken and got another discount--turned out the lint tray was in backwards which we figured out w/in an hour and he had a back-up dryer to use in the mean time--but while he admitted this he took the refund anyway. ALL pics are of my cabin or of my 6 ac. meadow--some were taken by my guests!!! I am not a long distance owner--I am right here most of the time, and still have a property manager, a plumber, and an electrician, on call 24/7. Why Mr. M. would write this, 20 days after he left, while telling me all 5 times we talked he was happy, happy and loved the cabin, is beyond me. BUT, nonetheless, we take these things very seriously, and the bushes have been further trimmed and no one has hot water issues. We are here to serve! I still say, there is not a cabin in the area--other than my 2d cabin, that is as nice; and when it comes to location, no one even tries to say they can do better! We will continue to provide our guests the best in rustic cabin luxury and top-flight service! Tracee Lorens/owner.

We had a wonderful time at this cabin! We had a moose walk right by the back porch as we stood watching!! We took out the two person kayak everyday and caught 20+ fish each time! One morning as we sat fishing two bull moose were on the island right next to us eating! Cabin was very clean and kitchen was fully stocked. The first morning our coffee pot was not working. We contacted the owner and by that afternoon a new (working) coffee pot was sitting on our porch with a note. Highly recommend! :) My husband and I came for a 20th anniversary getaway but next time we will bring our 3 kids! They would love it too!!
