WONDERFUL KAUAI ESTATE

Kilauea Estate Rental Photos and Description

5 bedroom, 4+ bath, approx 5000 sq ft, completely secluded gem

• Huge master suite occupies most of the top floor. Private ocean-view deck, dressing room, gigantic walk-in closet, private sitting room, wonderful canopied bed, A separate screened indoor/outdoor bedroom with another canopy bed is also on the top floor. This is the owner's favorite place to sleep.

• Two other bedrooms on ground floor, each with its beautiful bathroom, plus another very private bedroom and bath across the central courtyard lanai.

• Huge kitchen with all the appliances and gadgets you'd expect in a house of this quality. Central butcher-block island. Two stainless sinks. Great gas stove.

• Lovely living room, opening to a covered lanai where you'll probably eat most of your meals on the beautiful twelve-person hardwood table overlooking the pool.

• Another large sitting room/yoga room/media room with big flat screen TV with wireless internet connectivity for Netflix, etc., hidden in a beautiful Balinese cabinet.

• Exquisite Balinese furniture and decor throughout the house, lovingly selected and shipped to the house from Indonesia.

• Very large pool. Saltwater makes it chlorine-free and extra nice to swim in. Beautiful landscaping all around it. A stone hot tub big enough for a dozen friends flows into the pool. The hot tub is also saltwater and therefore chlorine free.

• Five acres of magnificent seclusion with mango, banana, lilikoi and papaya trees for you to pick from.

Idyllic retreat location

  • 5 of 5
This beautifully decorated house with its gorgeous pool and grounds was the perfect place for a yoga retreat. The house comfortably held 10 of us--in fact it could probably hold a couple more without feeling crowded. The location is perfect--not busy with tourist activity, but not isolated and a short drive from many wonderful things to see and do, including the chocolate farm tour. You can also walk to a particularly beautiful beach. But you might just prefer to lounge by the pool, or take a nap in the hammock.

Secluded and spacious

  • 4 of 5
Held a small wedding here (70 people). I was looking for a house with a large property where we wouldn't bother neighbours, and this was exactly it!

PROS

House is beautiful and much nicer than the pictures. I cannot get over how nice it is! The furniture is mind-blowing. Each room is unique and beautifully set up. The couch in the living room could sleep 90000000 people alone (slight exaggeration). The house itself looks small on the outside due to the landscaping and house angles, but is actually quite massive.

The pool is amazing. Our group of 10 spent every afternoon and many evenings in the pool, much more than we spent at the actual beach! Which is saying something because the north shore has amazing beaches. It's Hawaii so the pool is a comfortable temperature even late at night.

The kitchen is massive and has more than enough space for everyone to make their food without getting in each others way.

CONS

There are no screens on most of the doors so if you want to cool the house down in the heat of summer, get used to bugs and flies. A few of the more squeamish people in our group didn't like that but they got over it quickly. =)

Most of the bedrooms and bathrooms aren't super private. For example, two bathrooms look out into the central courtyard and most of the windows don't have curtains. Not necessarily a negative thing, just something to be aware of. We were all close friends so this wasn't a huge deal.

The wireless Internet barely worked. Some days it worked fine, other days only one or two people in our group could actually get online. It's a good way to force you to unplug from the online world, I guess!

The backyard has a nice jungle-y atmosphere. It's maintained well but if you're expecting golf course-quality crisp landscaping, keep in mind this is Kauai and everything is a little more laid back and relaxed!

Amazing home, decor and property ~ well managed!

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a wonderful stay at this private residence in the Kilauea Farms neighborhood. After corresponding with David for the last year about the rental, pictures do not do it justice. The secluded dirt driveway lined with beautiful arching trees lead to an exquisite home surrounded by a large piece of property growing with beautiful trees and flowers - pretty much paradise. The house was perfect for our group - 4 couples and 1 single, with plenty of open areas, making for an environment that was social but still lent itself to everyone having their own space. One of the most impressive things is the furniture. Large, solid wood pieces from Bali fill the spaces and create a zen-like exotic feel. The kitchen was perfect for us to cook group dinners, eating out on the covered lanai. The salt water pool is a haven. Beds are comfortable, all rooms are stocked with plenty of towels and the open air and ceiling fans made for perfect sleeping temps. I can't think of one downside except that we couldn't stay longer. There are some kitties on the property, so make sure to keep the doors shut to avoid them getting inside (but they're cute).
A short walk down the road leads you to a remote trail that leads you down to a pristine (nearly deserted) beach. Again ~ this place is paradise. I love the vibe of the North Shore and this house couldn't be better for accommodating that special ness of all that Kauai has to offer. Thank you David and team!

Kauai Estate Yoga Retreat

  • 5 of 5
I recently led a yoga and meditation retreat at this beautiful and spacious Kauai estate. It's a beautiful home with exquisite furnishings and decor from Bali and elsewhere and the location of the property, together with the salt water pool and surrounding garden area, provided a wonderful setting for a very sweet shared experience that was difficult to leave! The property manager(s) were highly responsive and helpful in making it a meaningful and successful retreat. Mahalo David and Preston!

Amazing Week, Amazing Place and Amazing Home

  • 5 of 5
Our extended family stayed here over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The home is larger, and much more private, than we expected. Everything we needed and wanted was here - huge pool, large kitchen, and great layout - plenty of space for all of us to congregate for meals & movies, but also more than enough room that we were not on top of each other. David was extremely helpful, and provided plenty of information for the local area.

This was exactly what we were looking for - large, upscale home, secluded yet close to all the sights and activities on the North Shore. Would highly recommend, and we will definitely be back!

Spacious palace of zen!

  • 4 of 5
If you are looking for private home; a place for two to sprawl and luxuriate or a large family to bond and relax, this is your new retreat. Impeccably decorated, you will enjoy lounging and admiring the many comforts of this home. Truly a short drive to beach, very close to farmer's market, north shore, many other beaches, huge pool and spa, large kitchen, roomy bedrooms and bathrooms. Please remember that this is truly someone's home, it deserves respect, love, and if you have a moment say hi to the groundskeeper, he is a very sweet man. (:

Pros (for us):
-Great location, but no one will bother you for days. Very private.
-Everything we used was operational and if it wasn't it was rectified by the end of the day.
Large rooms, all unique, well furnished.
-We loved the upstairs outside bed (forgive the early A.M. roosters - it's hard to evade roosters on this island).
-Property Manager is incredibly helpful and so nice. He provided SO MANY suggestions and ideas for activities and was a godsend in trying to find an emergency room (minor scrape while hiking).
-At the time we stayed, there was a litter of kittens hanging around to feed. For us that was a priceless feeling of home and comfort to have a few furry faces to love while on vacation. (If you are not into adorable kittens, feeding the kittens is not mandatory, the grounds keeper will do it).
-Has all the basics; clean, well stocked, supply of towels, etc.

Cons:
-we were asked to pay for any heat used for the spa. - Not mentioned in ad online.
-No actual tv service, no cable, etc. We asked about that and within a day, equipment for internet tv (netflix) was installed, which was huge. Ad said there was tv, one would assume it was more than a tv with no cable service I think?

That's pretty much it. Happy travels and ALOHA!

Car: necessary

On this stretch of Kauai's North Shore coast lie several of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This is not an exaggeration. Ask anyone who has spent time here. Pila'a beach, magnificent and deserted, is nearby.

Rock Quarry Beach, another amazing gem, is a five minute drive away. Larsen's, about the same distance away, is secluded and utterly gorgeous.

Secrets Beach, perhaps the queen of all Kauai beaches, is less than a ten minute drive and a ten minute hike. Secrets, over a mile long, is not merely a pristine stretch of white sand, but an ever-changing panorama of lava boulders, tide pools, cliffs, and sea birds.

A little farther away are Lumihai Beach, site of the movie South Pacific, and of course, Hanalei Bay, another contender for the most beautiful place on earth.

Surfing? Many of the top surfers in the world live on Kauai's north shore, both for its unspoiled beauty, and the variety of surf conditions, from the fairly gentle shore break at Hanalei to world-class giant waves a little further out.

Every water sport you might want is not only available, but exceptional. Snorkeling and diving. Wind surfing. Kite boarding. Boating. Whale watching. Every type of fishing, from offshore trolling for giant ahi, to gentle bottom fishing, to flyfishing for huge bonefish in the Anini lagoon or trout fishing, yes trout fishing, for big rainbows, in Kokee streams.

Many visitors equip themselves with a guidebook and try to check off as many 'been there, done that's' as possible. We locals don't do much of that. You probably shouldn't either. Hang out at the beach. Lie by the pool. Work on your tan. Get a massage. Get a massage every day if you want. Take naps. Do yoga. Meditate. Breathe and be amazed by tranquility so deep you can feel it just doing nothing at all.

Some of the most interesting people in the world live on Kauai. Writers, musicians, retired internet billionaires, surfers, hippies, movie stars, spiritual seekers (and even spiritual finders), healers, and assorted oddball slackers of every description. Meet some of them. It's not hard.

As for food, I'll tell you a secret. There are two viable strategies if you want to own a restaurant on Kauai. Find a high rent, high visibility location and put all your money into the decor in order to attract tourists who only have to come once. OR find some little hole in the wall that doesn't look like much, and put your heart into the food, so locals will come all the time. Guess which ones we like to eat in. We'll help you find them. Just ask.

The house kitchen is great. Kauai has a wonderful variety of farmers' markets. You'll love meeting the growers and buying organic vegetables and exotic fruits like sapotes, rambutans, longans and lychees, and dozens of interesting kinds of mangos, bananas, papayas, and avocados. Take them back to the house and enjoy them in their simple perfection.

Kauai is a magnet for people who enjoy healing, inspiring, and sharing their wisdom. If you want body work, we can recommend some who will change your life.

This property is located in the heart of the most beautiful part of the most beautiful of all the Hawaiian Islands. Every day we realize how fortunate we are to live here. We look forward to sharing it with you and helping you to have the best vacation of your life.

Aloha
