WINTER: Located in the heart of the Whitefish Mountain Resort Village, just 600 feet from the Glacier Chaser ski lift, our guests have easy access to all the village amenities. Winter at Whitefish Mountain Resort offers over 3,000 acres of downhill skiing and snow boarding as well as cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horse drawn sleigh rides and dinners, night skiing, snowshoeing and moonlight gondola rides. Several restaurants, shopping, child care and ski rentals and lessons are also located in the Village. You can schedule transfers from the airport (Kalispell/FCA) or the Amtrak train station (Whitefish) for a fee. The S.N.O.W. bus shuttles to Whitefish numerous times daily for more shopping, dining and activity options.
SPRING: The transition from winter to spring is an anxiously awaited event. The Whitefish Mountain Resort typically closes after the first weekend in April. As the mountains surrounding the Flathead Valley give up their blankets of white, whitewater rafting and golfing become the activities of choice. The Going to the Sun Road opens to vehicles in May or June, depending on the depth of the snow pack. Mountain bikers and hikers take to the road in May. The mild climate of the Flathead Valley allows the 9 golf courses scattered from one end to the other to get an early start on their season. A couple of golf course openings usually overlap with the last week or so of skiing. Except for lodging, services at Whitefish Mountain Resort are closed into June.
SUMMER: From the Whitefish Mountain Resort Village guests enjoy the view of the Flathead Valley below. Gondola rides, mountain bikes or a mountain hike access the summit for breath taking views of Glacier Park, Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Canadian Rockies. Flathead Lake can be seen as well. Summer activities at Whitefish Mountain Resort include mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing lessons, zip-Line tour, alpine slide, and gondola rides. Summer Season runs approximately end of June through 1st weekend in September. Check with resort for actual dates. There are many other attractions around the Flathead Valley. Guests go whitewater rafting, river fishing, wildlife viewing, golfing and boating on Whitefish or Flathead Lake. Many people visit Glacier more than once during their stay and hiking and mountain biking opportunities in the area are plentiful. Galleries and museums are popular attractions as well. In the summer we recommend a rental car if you travel to the area by airplane or Amtrak.
FALL: The changing colors are spectacular in September and October. Summer activities in the Flathead Valley and Whitefish Mountain Resort continue into September. The weather is normally dependable in September with sunny warm days and cool nights. Glacier Park is fully accessible until snow closes the Going to the Sun Road late in October or in November. Cross country skiing and snow shoeing take over then as the preferred modes of transportation. October is a transition month with many attractions and activities closed. It is a very quiet time.

A small city in Alberta, Canada is home to our family. Our children were raised here and as adults, continue to live in the community. We have recently retired and are fortunate to call the Edelweiss in Whitefish, Montana our 'home away from home'.
We fell in love with the area and the Edelweiss is like owning a little bit of paradise.
Whether it's winter or summer or the off-season, there's always something to do. It can be as simple as sitting in front of the fireplace after a great day on the ski hill or as exciting as zip-lining across the mountainside.
