NOTE FOR TRAVELERS WITH CHILDREN OVER THE AGE OF FOUR:
The area in the vicinity of my home has many outdoor activities that would interest children four and older: hiking and swimming in the summer, skiing and playing in the snow in the winter. In addition, the Vermont Institute of Natural Science Nature Center and the Billings Farm and Museum are both are located near Woodstock on Route 4, approximately a half-hour drive east of my house and have many interesting activities that appeal to children. A rock climbing gym is located in Rutland, approximately a half-hour drive west of my house. All the public schools in my area have playgrounds. The one at the elementary school in Woodstock is brand new.
NOTE FOR TRAVELERS WITH BABIES OR YOUNG CHILDREN!
My home is not well-suited to guests with babies or young children. Travelers must bring their own crib, high chair, gates for the stairs, plastic covers for electrical outlets and any other equipment their baby or young child would need.
My house is far from baby-proof. None of the kitchen or bathroom base cabinets has a child lock. None of the electrical outlets has a cover. The house has five levels, each separated by an open half-flight of stairs. Extension cords are in use in every room and are connected to, among other things, lamps, radios, mp3 players and a light weight vacuum cleaner. Hot tub chemicals must be kept in the laundry room, up out of a young child’s reach. I also recommend that guests with babies or young children move the remote control units for the TVs and Blu-Ray players from the coffee tables to surfaces out of a baby's reach. I expect other hazards exist that I haven't mentioned. In short, guests with babies or young children will almost certainly need to be more vigilant than they are at home in order to keep their baby or young child safe in my home.
I live a two-hour drive from my mountain home and expect to continue to enjoy it with family and friends when the property is not booked. I completely refurbished the house and it was available to rent for the first time in February 2013. We enjoy the hot tub year round, adjusting the water temperature as the weather changes. Kids love the bubble jets and multi-colored lights in all seasons.

The property is in a wonderful location to enjoy downhill skiing, riding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and golf, hiking in the Green Mountains, biking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides, antiquing and much more at other times of the year.
The combination of privacy in the woods, great mountain views and convenient access to Killington Ski Area in the winter and other attractions and outdoor activities at other times of the year make this a wonderful mountain location.
A small parking area located 500 feet from my driveway makes it possible to ski onto Killington's Homestretch Ski Trail and ski down to the Skyeship to purchase lift tickets. At the end of the day, you can return to your car via Homestretch Ski Trail and drive a few hundred feet up to the house.
My home is located less than one mile from the Killington Mountain Resort Ski Area road to Bear Mountain lifts and base lodge;
You can watch skiers and snowboarders on Killington's Homestretch Trail from the house by day and snowcats grooming Homestretch after the lifts close.
Guests may also drive just 500 feet down Great Trail Road from my driveway and park in a small area adjacent to Killington’s Home Stretch Trail. Before the lifts open, guests can make first tracks skiing and snowboarding down the mountain to the Skyeship, one of Killington’s high-speed, heated gondolas, where lift tickets for Killington's five mountains are available.
If some members of a guest's party prefer to head home before others, they can ski back to their car, drive a few hundred yards up to my house, relax in the hot tub or in front of the wood-burning fireplace and pick the others up later in the day.
Photos of the Great Trail Road parking area and a view of the Home Stretch Ski Trail from the parking area are posted in this listing.
