Awesome Bayou Retreat and Great Location

This is a charming home and we plan on returning so if you stay here be sure to treat it better than you would your own home! The home is very clean and well stocked with amenities. There is even a terry bath robe for guests to use. We had never been to Mississippi so we booked a 2 week stay and had a wonderful time. We kayak, so you can depart right from the property to kayak the bayous and rivers. You are also minutes away by car to kayak on more beautiful rivers with small beaches to stop and have a picnic or swim, such as the Wolf River or the upper Jourdan River at Mcleod Park.
Historic Bay St. Louis offers great dining. Tripani's has the best Crawfish Etouffee with a nice view of the water as well as 200 North Beach restaurant. At the Sycamore House, the chef owners are CIA trained. Several cute shops in town, stop for info at the Historic Depot.
Be sure to drive east along the coast to view the beautiful homes. Even though all debris has been removed from hurricane Katrina and Issac you can still see signs of the devastation. Many beautiful lots are vacant where homes once stood, all that is left are brick staircases, concrete slabs, or nothing at all. Be sure to stop in for lunch or dinner at the Blowfly Inn located in Gulfport, about a 25 minute drive, which was featured on Diner, Drive ins and Dives. Great food, service and prices. New Orleans is about a 50 minute drive. An hour from there is the beautiful Oak Alley Plantation along with the Laura Plantation, a Creole plantation.
The beaches in Bay St. Louis and Waveland are several miles long with soft sand and a hard sandy bottom in the water. The water appeared to be shallow for a long way out which is great for children.
The owners are very nice and accommodating. Greg even came over our first day to show us where to kayak, grocery shop, and dining recommendations. The neighbors on both sides were very friendly and helpful with great conversations, where to fish (although we had a cold snap so fishing wasn't very good), and places to dine.
We are from Colorado and even though we feel people are very friendly in our state, the people in the Bay St. Louis area are so friendly and helpful. That was a wonderful experience in itself. We miss sitting on the porch and looking out at the sunset over the bayou. I highly recommend this Bayou Retreat and the Bay St. Louis area, a great base place. Be sure to take good care of this place because we are coming back next year!
