Overview

Lake Norman Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 1 Br, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)w/ 2Br 1Bath attached vrbo 353073

Newly remodeled 1br/1ba with exotic hardwood floors, porcelain countertops, nickel appliances and hot tub overlooking the lake. Great screen porch for afternoon leisure. This villa is attached to VRBO# 353073 giving room for an additional 5 guests.'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 and has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2013 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless internet, flat screen TV's, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two neighbors. There is a 2 bedroom unit above that is also available for rent. Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the 'experience'. If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your stay. A security deposit and application is required in advance.

About Bob Rudolph

We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.

Bob Rudolph purchased this villa in 1990

Why Bob Rudolph chose Lake Norman

We lived here at one time and knew we could never part with it. 'Rosella' is not an investment for us.She is part of the family. We know that if you stay here and get to know Mountain Island Lake you will be 'hooked' too.

What makes this villa unique

Many of our guests come to experience the National White water Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there.

It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak

or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made

Olympic qualifying rapids in the country.

There is vertical rock climbing,

zip linning and a lot more outdoor adventures.

If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a

riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal

and a glass of wine that you can sip while you watch crazy

people careen down a wall of water and rocks. You can

watch with interest rafters trying to save one of their

own who has fallen overboard while you nibble

on a delicious Macho Nacho. There are also summer

concerts and island sunset parties.

It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center.

You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to

the rivers edge in less than 10 minutes.

Our 9 week stay. 11/22/14 to 01/30/15

  • 4 of 5

Our daughter & son in law booked a 2 month stay for us at this villa to enjoy an extended visit with our grandbabies in Charlotte. We live in PA. Upon arrival we were very excited! We brought our 3 dogs with us & the villa was perfect for us & the "kids". Beautiful view of the lake. Peaceful & calm setting. The first few weeks were great!! My husband is very handy and he willingly did some much needed updates/repairs to this place. The shower head was leaking. He replaced. Ceiling fan in BR was broken. He repaired. Ice/water dispenser in fride broken. He repaired. Hot tub not working properly. He repaired. Bob kindly reimbursed us for expenses. Due to my husband's skills he saved Bob & Kim a ton of money in service calls to professionals!! We saw a few live roaches (or as I found out they are called palmetto bugs in the south). I didn't like that at all. Gross! There was an ongoing problem with rodents invading the outside trash cans. It was a pain in the butt to have to clean up the scattered trash several times a day. The 2 trash cans were old and needed replaced. The trash was not picked up in a timely manner which only added to this problem. Incidentally, we kept the villa immaculate and left it in impeccable condition when we checked out. We even put up a gorgeous Christmas display on the back deck which could be enjoyed by boaters on the lake!! We did have a few problems with Bob as I'm sure he had with us as well but after 9 weeks what do you expect? I admit that I can be a bit demanding (cursing my Type A personality right now! lol) but all in all I thought things went as well as could be expected. Fast forward to the present. We attempted to book a short weekend stay for July. Bob told us via email that he is not interested in renting to us again!! We were shocked to say the least! I emailed Bob requesting an explanation for his decision and asked for a response out of courtesy. Nothing. In spite of this, I would still recommend this place for a short stay. Long weekend, a week or so but definitely not for an extended stay. The villa does smell musty. At first I just attributed that as being in close proximity to the water. However when we got home and opened our suitcases we were overcome with a moldy & musty smell on everything! I washed & re washed our clothes & ended up with a hefty dry cleaning bill! The place is beautiful for a short stay. in the end, I still highly recommend staying here:)

Owner's Response: These folks did NOT rent the place from us. Their daughter did, who was very pleasant. When these folks wanted to rent the place I declined but wished them well. Grammy seems to enjoy discord and drama. I would not respond to this at all but this review was written after I refused to rent to them and is meant to mislead future guests for vindictive reasons. Grammy promised her daughter she would remove this review. Im not surprised that she was untruthful. I was surprised at VRBO's lack of help, interest and communication.

Cozy Private Retreat Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect retreat. I was in town for a conference, and it was an easy commute back to a charming cottage. Well equipped kitchen including a keurig coffee maker helped to start the day off. Enjoyed kayaking on the lake on a quiet Monday. Felt very private sitting in the screen porch as the day wound down. Great to have a place that my dogs could vacation as well. Didn't have a chance to try the hot tub, but will definitely do so next time. Definitely recommended it!

Very Pleased

  • 5 of 5

It was everything the other reviews had mentioned. Very comfortable, convenient, and even with neighbors renting the space on the above floor, it's as private as you would like it to be. I loved everything about it. Clean and comfortable. As a frequent traveler, I was very pleased.

We had a very nice time . The house was clean and we had everything we needed. The owner was very helpful and took care of a little problem immediately. The view of the lake is gorgeous. I would recommend this property for couples. We appreciated that our little shihtzu Bella was allowed to stay there with us.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to relax just 20 minutes from the center of Charlotte. The property is just as described. Groceries and light shopping are just 5 minutes away. The owner is careful to match his guests when renting the upstairs and downstairs at the same time. I would highly recommend this property. We had a wonderful stay! Thank you!

This location is very convenient to downtown, National Whitewater Center, Paramount Carowinds and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. All are within 15 min. A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Prices range from $35-$50 per day. Please inquire for additional details.

Please note We are struggling to continue to offer

the boats. We have had guests that over estimated

their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit

to secure a boat and please be honest about your

experience level. I am more than glad to take you

out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available

as it is mechanically possible.
