FANTASTIC BASE TO EXPLORE DC. GREAT SMALL TOUCHES

  • 5 of 5
This is a good location to explore DC. Nice neighborhood, close to the metro and close to the restaurants in Barracks Row.

Despite the compact size I was pleasantly surprised how easily we managed to fit our family of 5 into the house. My other concern pre-arrival had been parking but although the neighborhood is busy, there was always parking available within 30 yards of the house.

I also have to highlight the attentiveness of owner Alison (we didn't get to meet her husband AJ). Alison provided comprehensive information about the house and the area ahead of our arrival and checked in with us during our stay. What I was surprised and delighted to find upon arrival was that most household essentials (detergent, dishwashing supplies, etc) that many rental places don't provide were all there. Small touches make the difference.

Thoroughly recommended.

OUTSTANDING

  • 5 of 5
I rented this property about two months. I was there on business, and it was a short walk to the Navy Yard. It is also near the capitol, the metro, even closer to the highway, and parking was easier than expected. AJ and Alison were extremely helpful and responsive, I would always hear back the same day, usually within minutes, if I wanted anything. The house was very comfortable. Having a kitchen and washer/dryer right there, and a separate area downstairs to relax, makes it feel much more like a home than any hotel. It came very well stocked with most everything you need to cook or bake, like spices, condiments, cooking oil, etc, so I didn't have to go buy a bunch of random little things to make what I wanted. I had no problem getting reimbursed with their receipt. Overall a very good experience.

Fantastic place to stay. Lovely and in a great location. Owners were wonderful and attentive. Fully stocked kitchen was a surprise but a real boon. Didn't have to run out to buy coffee the first night.

PERFECT VACATION SPOT

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in DC. A big part of the enjoyment was staying close to the sights and within a neighborhood. Instead of feeling like a tourist we slid right in and felt part of the community....going to the park, shopping at Eastern Market, jumping on the metro. A 15 to 20 minute walk took you to the Capitol. The place was well furnished and the owners could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We are already wanting to go back and stay here again. Highly recommended!

A LITTLE HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
We have travelled widely. Most national parks in US, Alaska & Canadian Rockies as well as several countries in Europe. Stayed in NP lodges and many B&B's. It took my daughter to show me an alternative. She got her little fingers into action on her IPhone when we were out to lunch discussing DC & recoiled at the thought of a motel or hotel near a metro station. (She lived in Chicago for a few years) and she found your place.

What a stroke of luck. Made reservation 9+ months ago and Alison has been exceptionally helpful promptly returning my calls or responding to e-mails. The information she provided was outstanding, quite complete and accurate on the neighborhood shops, restaurants, and resources.

I have read all the reviews on VBRO and the last year's comments in her guest book (which contains a wealth of spontaneous suggestions from those who were here before us)-- some of which we incorporated into our stay.

The rental unit is outstanding. The neighborhood is upscale, safe and quiet. Hard to believe there is a busy interstate a few blocks away. Restaurant selection is quite varied-- and nicely described by Alison.

Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress are in easy walking distance. Metro & bike rental station very near (minimum age for bike rental is 16 at the bike share program-- my daughter & grandson choose to respect the limit). A surprise was the bus system. Wife & daughter took bus over to Georgetown a few times when we were finished with museums.

The flowers & landscaping in yards on our walks made it worth the effort as we explored in many directions. Hearing Taps on the way home (barracks row) added a nice glow.

I might mention that there is a nice little grocery store just 2 blocks from the house--- and we stopped there a few times to stock up on necessities & junk food. Like others, once we parked the car we didn’t touch it for a week.

My wife & I have done a lot of hiking down thru the years & hit the trails regularly. Recently she hurt her foot digging in the garden so I wanted to keep her walking to a minimum so she could take part in all the things we did--- and we hit all the major attractions. So we called Diamond Cabs several times. Always prompt--.even in rush hour and periods of rain. This is also a good resource if 4 are going together.

I have already recommended this place to several of my friends & relatives. I could not have dreamt that exploring DC would have been this nice.

EXCELLENT STAY IN A GREAT LOCATION WITH CUSTOMER FOCUSED OWNERS

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at this historic property was excellent. It is very conviently located near 3 Metro stations and is within easy walking distance of many restaurants, the Capital area and only 25 minutes walking to the Mall area. The house is very well appointed with everything we needed for our stay. The queen bed was very comfortable as was the couch and chair in the downstairs family room. it was very helpful to have a new washer and dryer and the A/C worked great. The owners are very engaging and were excellent to deal with. They gave us several tips on sightseeing, restaurants and how to use the convenient bike share program. A multi bike stand is only a block away and very affordable. The house is about 15 minutes from the Nationals baseball stadium and we had a great time walking to a night game. One of the true benefits of their house location is the proximity to an extended neighborhood of truly beautiful and historic homes. We stayed in the house for 8 days, did not rent a car and did not need one. We got a 7 day Metro pass that we used every day to get all around to the greater DC attractions. Overall I highly recommend this property and my wife and I truly enjoyed our DC vacation.
