Why Lucia chose Menaggio
This was the land of my grand-parents, we live on the other side of the lake but often we enjoy to come back here in Breglia ( small village in the municipality of Plesio) for holidays or just for a short day-beak looking for peace, out from the busy and noisy Bellagio. We stay in our tower especially in winter months, as during warm season we work, for this reason we rent it from spring to autumn :)
What makes this apartment unique
The village is like a nest in the woods of the mountains of the lake, here I enjoy beautiful walks between woods with fantastic views like the one pictured. Here is an oasis of peace just few minutes drive from the busiest and most famous places around the lake: this is my little haven, where I find rest and fresh after a hard week's work between the chaos and the sounds of traffic. When I do not want to use the car a good bus service brings me to Menaggio, and when I do not want to cook I go to the local restaurant where they serve excellent meals with little expense. On Sundays and public holidays, when the lake villages are terribly busy with tourists from the city, I enjoy the peace here, walking among the ancient chestnut and going for an easy stroll to the white church that overlooks the lake with an extraordinary view.
In this small village people are friendly, you can feel the atmosphere of yesteryear Italy. The tower is in the oldest part of the village, its walls have a thousand years, the stones of its facade reveal ancient stone windows and massive blocks and next there was a convent of monks builted in the 15th century. Walking through the village you will discover picturesque corners of old, like the old stone fountains, where the water is still good to drink.
Behind the tower we got a terrace above a stone building, on disposal for the apartment 'Torre'; for its flooring we used the stones that covered the old roof of the tower. In the bedroom of the apartment 'Torre' we kept the original wooden beams of the 16th century.
In the apartment 'Portico' is visible a big beam done with a chestnut tree, and a narrow passage which communicated with the surrounding buildings, now used for storage.
In both apartments there is a lovely fireplace, perfect in the autumn evenings.
