Overview

Highland Woods Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

The cabin was remodeled from its 1976 origins last year so gone is that beloved 70's paneling and the extra walls so the whole kitchen - dining - living area flow together; with the original open beam ceiling it has a comfy spacious feel to it. This living area has the deck off of it and it has wonderful southern exposure so there it is light and bright all day long. The view of the Carson Range near Heavenly and the grassy green lawn make this a nice little peaceful refuge.

The space of the house is nicely laid out and it utilizes it well. First floor has full size bedroom with roomy closet and queen bed, full bath and laundry room you can use. Second floor has a 'cozy' bedroom with a pretty ponderosa pine outside its window (queen bed), plus the large bedroom with the same view of the mountains as from the deck. This bedroom has a queen bed and two single futons. The second floor has the vaulted chalet ceiling, and there is another bath with shower.

Kitchen has all new appliances that includes a gas stove (instead of electric!) and, mercifully, a dishwasher. With the granite counter tops and island, plus all the cooking gear and plates you'll need you can get to work cooking up a storm in there should you desire.

There are a couple of bar stools at the island, and the dining table has a leaf so you can expand it to seat 8.

Living room has new efficient wood stove, 46 inch LCD HDTV and DVD player, and some comfortable seating - better than we have at home!

All the bedrooms have clothes closets and new high quality, non-toxic mattresses made in the US. The big bedroom has a small (32 x 48') Foosball/multi game table and a 37 inch LCD HDTV.

There are a bunch of chairs, an umbrella, and BBQ for the spacious deck which is on a cool green lawn.

Great central location in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. No ugly power lines! Just up the street you can walk or ski into the Upper Truckee Marsh Conservancy area and make your way to the lake or the Tahoe Keys.

Located 2 miles from the 'Y' (US 50 and 89 - many stores and Raleys supermarket) and 4 miles from Stateline (Casinos).

The South Lake Tahoe Bike Path passes through here a few blocks away. Its about a 10 minute bike ride to go 2 miles up to Regan Beach.

The great City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation complex is a few miles away and has a swimming pool, basketball courts and weight room.

The Bijou Community Park is near the recreation center located on Al Tahoe Blvd, and it has a Free Frisbee Golf Course, skateboard park, and many other features.

Nearby also is the year round South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. 4 miles to Heavenly Ski Area.

The listed weekly rate and minimum stay may do apply during holiday periods such as Labor Day (3 nights minimum), Thanksgiving (3 nights minimum), Christmas and New Years (3 nights minimum), etc.

You may give us a $400 refundable damage deposit instead of the $49 damage insurance fee. The damage insurance is issued by Homeaway and is not refundable.

About Peter Rapier

My name is Peter. The first place I backpacked in California was in the Desolation Wilderness, first rock climbing at 90 Foot Wall, and up near Luther Pass south of here is the first place we camped out with our daughter (at 4 months). We love it up here and have been coming for years, bringing visitors and family along.

Peter Rapier purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Peter Rapier chose Highland Woods

Perfect little cabin!

  • 5 of 5
My family had a fantastic time staying at this cabin. It was clean, cozy, and cute! The neighborhood was quiet, the grassy backyard was good for little kids (it's a communal area without a fence, so close supervision is needed), the kitchen had everything we needed, there was a nice selection of movies for very young children through adults, the foosball table was fun to have... Everything was great. We had trouble accessing the internet at first, and the owner was VERY quick to respond and helpful. I was really impressed by the great customer service!

One of the things I especially liked about staying here was the master bedroom upstairs. The setup is perfect for families with little kids. There's a queen bed at a normal height, and there are two twin beds that are very low to the ground. No worrying about littles falling out of bed at night! And no need to bring a pack-n-play for toddlers.

You do have to pass by the staircase to get from the master bedroom upstairs to the bathroom, which could be a concern if you have a small child accustomed to using the bathroom alone at night. The hallway seemed narrow and it didn't look like there was an easy way to install a pressure mounted baby gate, if you were inclined to bring one. We also couldn't find washcloths anywhere in the house, so bring your own if you want one!

We had a great time staying at this cabin, and I would definitely stay here again. I loved it! Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Good point about the gate in the hallway, I think we'll look for a way to carpenter something in, I don't want to install anything that's not bombproof and did not find a way with the gates I saq.
And thanks for the feedback about washcloths!

Cozy, well-equipped -- even better than expected!

  • 5 of 5
I was so happy with this rental. We stayed for five days in September and had a wonderful time (just two of us - although the house had plenty of space for more). The house was even better than I expected from the photos online. I particularly loved how well-stocked the kitchen was. The owner left very detailed and helpful information for us, so we weren't left with any questions.

Lovely Cabin. Clean and Cozy !

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the cabin during the MLK weekend for 3 nights. The communication with the owner was flawless. We received clear and detailed instructions from where to park and how to how to operate the DVD player.
The cabin itself is well kept, well equipped and the place seems to be recently remodeled with updated kitchen and bathrooms. The bedrooms are space full. The bed was very firm (we love it).
The location is great and quiet since the cabin is a couple blocks off the busy Hwy 50. It was a relaxing stay even though there was not enough snow for the kids to play. We enjoyed the stay and planned to come back again.

Exceptional Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I, our two adult daughters, and one daughter’s boyfriend just got back from a one week stay. The cabin was even nicer than described. The owner has obviously put lot of work and attention into updates: new windows, doors, bathroom tile, cabinets, granite counter tops, appliances, light fixtures, and furnishings. The result is very modern, but with a “rustic” decorating theme.
We were impressed with all the amenities. Wireless Internet, two tvs with Netflix and other apps, telephone, DVDs, board games, a foosball table--- lots to do in case of inclement weather. The kitchen was the best equipped of any rental we have had, with lots of dishes, silverware, glasses, and cookware, and all of it good quality. There were even a coffee grinder and a cheese grater, little things that other places almost never think of. There is a large Weber grill on the deck, and a bag of charcoal and lighter fluid were provided. The washer and dryer were a big help. Instruction manuals are provided for everything.
As other reviews have noted, there is no air conditioning, and the day we arrived it was unusually hot for Tahoe. The owner has now provided an oscillating stand fan in the living room which really does help. We were able to keep the place quite comfortable by opening up at night and in the morning, when it is always nice and cool, and closing up and pulling the shades down in the day.
The owner can be reached by phone or email and responds very quickly. He provides a very detailed packet of information for the house. There is also a local contact in case of emergency.
We were very surprised by how quiet the neighborhood was, since it is just a few blocks off the very busy main drag. It was nice to be so convenient to grocery stores and restaurants but still in a quiet residential area. It is south of the busiest part of town with its heavy concentration of motels, so we could get to the beaches and trail heads on Emerald Bay Road very quickly. We enjoyed bird (and coyote) watching in the nearby marsh and took some long walks through the neighborhoods to Regan beach, which seems to be frequented mostly by locals and is a great place to watch the sunset.
Many A-frame style rentals have an open, dormitory like space at the top of the stairs, but this cabin has two separate private bedrooms upstairs and one down, which was a much better arrangement for us. Highly recommended!

Very Pleased

  • 5 of 5
We were extremely happy with our rental of this cabin for a recent four-night stay in South Lake Tahoe. We had two families staying in the home (4 adults, 3 kids), so it worked well to have bedrooms on separate floors. The kitchen was actually nicer than my kitchen at home and a pleasure to cook in. It was well-equipped, with nice appliances and very clean. The beds were comfortable. The back deck is nice for sitting in the evenings and the grassy yard was great for the kids. Location is super convenient to everything in South Lake Tahoe. Full-size washer and dryer were an unexpected luxury. The owner was a pleasure to work with; he responded quickly to all emails, was extremely professional and courteous, and refunded our security deposit within a few days after our stay. We would definitely stay here again!

The only minor issue we had: It was very hot while we were there and the house has no A/C, so late afternoon/early evening was a bit uncomfortable. There are ceiling fans in 2 bedrooms, but the small bedroom upstairs never really cooled off, even with the window open all night. So bring a box fan (or two) if you have one.

Another tip if you are traveling with small children: We packed a portable baby gate for our 13-month-old, and I am so glad, because he was fascinated by the stairs!

Owner's Response: Great to hear that you had a good stay in Tahoe and you that liked the cabin! Thank you for the feedback about the fans, we've now got one in the living room and will add another for the small upstairs bedroom.
