About Teresa

Whatever your plans, North Idaho, and more specifically, “Johnnie’s Cottage”(in honor of Teresa's father), has a lot to offer .We have lived in Cocolalla for 17 years and Lake Cocolalla has been a favorite water sports location for our whole family. We appreciate you considering our accommodations and are excited about sharing our home with you. We will strive to make your stay a pleasant, memorable experience. Family is very important to us and we trust your stay with us will bring you closer to the ones you love.

'Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.' Psalms 16:11

Teresa purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Teresa chose Sandpoint

There's just no better place on earth to relax, unwind and spend precious time together, than at the water. When my father passed, my dream became to turn his cottage into a place where families, (ours included), could be together and have the time of their lives, in a beautiful wholesome setting with very little effort. We feel we have accomplished this. My father would be pleased.

What makes this cottage unique

Johnnie's Cottage is the perfect balance between a private secluded getaway and a sightseers paradise. Conveniently located just 1.5 paved miles from hwy#95.

Birthday present

  • 5 of 5

M name is Jerry and My stay at Johnnies Cabin was a birthday gift. My wife and I stayed for 2 days and had a wonderful time. The decor and amnesties were perfect. The view of the lake in the morning fog in the winter time was gorgeous. I really felt like I had gotten away from everything and was able to totally relax. I definitely want to return for another visit. The owners rally care about every detail. I especially like the old fashioned tub! Thanks for a wonderful time.

Nice Quiet Winter Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We are an exception to the normal Johniee's Cottage visitor in that we stayed during the time between Christmas and New Year's instead of summer. Although we weren't able to take advantage of the amenities of the lake, we were blessed to receive 7-8 inches of snow during our stay. The good news is that it makes the lake, the property, and everything surrounding very pretty. The not so good news for us was that it was a little too little too late for us to fully enjoy close by Schweitzer Ski Area for skiing or Priest Lake for snowmobiling; both had been on our list when we originally booked. We also found that the road from Johnnie's is steeper than it might first appear; we were fine in our AWD Murano, but our daughter's older Accord needed help from our sons 4WD pickup to get out; this is in spite of Lee and Teresa's son Jonathon being "Johnny on the spot" (pun intended) with a blade on his truck to plow the road (nice, unexpected touch of service).

We really appreciated the fireplaces for a place to relax and unwind after a day playing outside. We hiked around Round Lake--in a State Park by the same name about a 15 minute drive from the cabin--a 2-3 mile hike that was beautiful in the falling snow and is probably pretty other times of the year as well. When we got back, we made a snowman on the dock and pretty much enjoyed the seclusion.

The stovetop popcorn popper was a hit with the young adults as well as the older folks.

As others have noted, the cabin is very nicely appointed and maintained. With the snow, we especially appreciated the covered parking.

Our only minor grumble is that when the fans for the heaters shut off at night, we were able to hear the trains from across the lake. Since we always carry earplugs in our cosmetic bags, this too quickly became a nonissue.

Owner's Response: Dear guests from Tri-cities: Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at Johnnie's. 2014 was the first winter season Johnnie's Cottage has been available for guests. The cottage has much to offer year-round. We look forward increasing our winter time guests. Dec. thru Feb. is usually filled with plenty of snow for skiing and other winter sports. We are sorry you did not experience enough snow in time, but we hope you will come again. In our first write-up, describing Johnnie's cottage,(2013) we advised our winter guests to have winter tires and either front-wheel drive or preferably 4-wheel drive vehicles. Johnnie's was not available for guests, in 2014, so we deleted that information. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have already added it back in to our location description on our VRBO site. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your hike around Round lake. There are many beautiful sites around this area. You mentioned how much you liked the "old-fashioned" popcorn maker. We love ours at home, also. My grand-kids think they need a bowl of "old-fashioned popcorn" or the DVD player won't work(ha ha ha). You mentioned the trains...Yes we do have a single-track railroad on the Eastern shore, across the Lake. We've never tried to hide that fact.It is drawn in on the map in the location section on VRBO. We have had a couple guests comment ,but mostly to say the trains add a charming addition to the surroundings and after a short while you don't really notice them anymore. We are thrilled to know that your stay was enjoyable. Thank you again for your review, We really appreciate and value your comments as they help us to meet the needs of our guests. We hope to see you again and wish you a blessed New Year. Sincerely, Lee and Teresa.

Great family get away

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Johnnie's Cottage August 2-9 of 2014 and had the greatest time…even when the power was out for 30 hours the first 2 days we were there! A storm had come in and knocked all power out to the Sandpoint area from Saturday until Sunday late night. Teresa and Lee were away themselves on holidays, but still had people check in on us, offering to bring fresh water and did bring us a propane stove as well as a giant ice chest to hold all of our food. We very much appreciated it :) The house is perfect for "lake life" and was big enough for all of us…we had 4 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 small children. The kids really enjoyed the beach (which I could see from either the top deck or the fire pit grassy area). The teenagers were in the boats fishing from morning until dark and the little ones loved floating out to the floating dock and jumping off (the water is shallow enough that my 3 year old was able to touch the bottom all the way to the dock). We loved the fire pit area at night overlooking the lake, the grassy area out back to play games (all supplied!), the awning that extends so you can sit under it on hot days, and especially loved the covered upper deck.

The house itself has EVERYTHING you could ever need for cooking etc. There wasn't one thing we wished we had had. It was very nice to have on site laundry as well so we could dry wet beach towels. The top deck is where we spent most of our time, eating all of our meals, enjoying a beverage overlooking the calm peaceful lake, and just hanging out. The only thing that was a down point for this place was the noise of the train…but that noise is heard everywhere around Sandpoint (we've stayed in many different places)..the train runs all day and night, but you get used to it. The upstairs got a little warm in the bedrooms(we had very hot weather while there), ceiling fans would have been a plus. Also, you don't need to bring anything for children…sand toys, toys, games, lawn chairs, etc are all provided as well as a beach towel for each person!

Overall, this place is fantastic and the owners are great. We have already booked our dates for next summer and can't wait to go back. Thanks Lee and Teresa!

Owner's Response: Dear Jaime and family: Thank you for taking the time to write our review. We are very pleased to hear stories such as yours, where "Johnnie's Cottage" has enabled you to have a precious time of fun and fellowship. We look forward to your return We also really appreciate your suggestions. Unfortunately our ceilings are not tall enough to safely accommodate ceiling fans. We will be sure to supply window fans, in case we have another hotter than normal summer.Thank you for your graciousness in dealing with the storm and all it's repercussion. You can not know what a blessing you were to us. Thank you again for taking such good care of our cottage. God bless, See you next year, Sincerely Lee & Teresa.

The house was great. The cleanest house we have stayed in so far. The owners were

there to greet us and available whenever we needed anything. The place was set up with

everything you could possibly want. I will stay there again.

Next time, I would like to take my grandchildren. Really a great place for kids.

The Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation was a dream. They have thought of every convenience at Johnnie's Cabin. It's extremely clean and well-stocked. They even provided butter, ketchup, mustard, pancake mix and syrup for the guests. The lake is beautiful and the paddle boat, canoe and kayaks were huge hits with the kids. They have a beautiful yard, patio and deck with views. Fishing every morning and evening (and catching something) made for wonderful memories for our grand kids. They were never bored. I will always treasure the memory of it. No one wanted to leave. Everyone wants to go back. Loved it!!!

Wonderful property! It was very clean and well stocked. It was so nice to not have to purchase the little things like sandwich bags, etc! We enjoyed the kayaks, and peddle boat and the dock was perfect for our own boat. The owners were great. We hope to go back again!
