Gordon Luxury Vacation Home

Located in the heart of the Historical District of downtown Crested Butte, this spacious, luxurious, recently remodeled historical home offers it all.

The town banker originally built this historic 1880’s home; it was artistically remodeled in 2004, maintaining its original historical feel. The windows, door frames, and dining room table were all milled from the house’s hundred-year-old beams and trusses. The Gordon Luxury Vacation home won the Coveted Honorable Mention Award in the Residential Remodel Category of Crested Butte’s Local Architecture Board.

The big, state of the art kitchen is open to the dining table, and offers a phenomenal space to cook and socialize. The kitchen is equipped with high-end appliances, and all the cookware need to make your favorite meal. The dining room table seats up to eight people with additional seats at the center island/ bar.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms: The master bedroom with a king size bed, and the second master bedroom has a four-poster queen size bed with a sleep number mattress. The upstairs/ master bathroom has a spacious shower with custom tile work and a separate oversized soaking jacuzzi tub. At the end of the upstairs hallway is access to the second floor deck. The third bedroom is located downstairs and has a queen size bed (a trundle bed can be brought in upon request). The downstairs bathroom is bright and sunny; it includes a spacious and beautifully tiled shower.

There is a large living room and a separate den. Both rooms have LCD flat screen televisions, DVD players, and are connected to Direct TV. There is house wide WiFi. The kitchen, living room, and master bathroom are plugged into the house audio system with individual volume controls (Bose and Klipsch speakers).

Enjoy the new eight-person hot tub with a view of Mount Crested Butte. The spacious yard has mature trees, beautiful flower gardens, and a large flagstone patio with teak furniture and a Weber gas grill. There are two off street over sized parking spaces located in the alley.

Why Seaton MacMillan chose Crested Butte

This property is one of the nicest properties in town available for short-term rental. It’s location is unbeatable. It is a block away form the free bus shuttle to the ski area, Mount Crested Butte, and within easy walking distance to all shops and restaurants. Because the Gordon Luxury Vacation Home is occupied by it’s owners a portion of the year, it is fully appointed and equipped in a manner not usually found in a rental. Understandably, this property inspires respect and may not be suitable for all persons, including those with unattended children or infants. Well-mannered dogs will be considered.

Love, love, love this place!

We spent a couple of months here to enjoy skiing. And lucky us, the snow gods were in a good mood and graced this lovely town with tons of the fluffy white stuff. The Gordon home is beautifully decorated, well appointed, homey and quiet. The beds are very comfortable which is an important asset. We especially enjoyed the hot tub, and the views of Mount Crested Butte. Nothing better than a bubbling tub and a toddy after a day of skiing! The home is a block away from the main downtown area and just around the corner from the bus stop. We loved being able to walk or take the bus everywhere. The free town bus system is such a convenience! Our car enjoyed a relaxing vacation in the driveway behind the home. There are many good restaurants and bars in the area. The locals are very friendly and fun to chat with. The owners, wow, we just adored them! They went out of there way to make sure we were comfortable and promptly responded to any questions we had. Thanks for a great winter!

A Most Magical Stay

My family and I stayed at the Luxury Gordon House on Sopris over Christmas this year and our experience could not have been more special. The owners were one of our favorite aspects of the stay and we enjoyed talking with them immensely, very kind and gregarious people we fell in love with. The house is a dream — all high end amenities but with an artistic flair making it truly unique with lots of excellent art adorning each room (it's worth staying there just to look at all the art!), gorgeous bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds, and little intimate details that make lounging around on a snow day all the more magical. Our favorite room became the kitchen where we communed nightly to stand around and talk and talk in it's cozy atmosphere. I also cannot say enough about the house's location — Sopris is a quiet street but completely central to everything in town and we loved walking downtown in a matter of minutes. And a note on Crested Butte, it's the best small community we have ever experienced...ever. The people are warm & kind and it has a energy you can't put your finger on until you've experienced it.

Bottom line, you absolutely will not regret booking accommodation at this very special place. We sort of want to shout at you, "Stay here, it's wonderful!" ;)

Outstanding stay July 5, 2014 thru July 13, 2014

Unlike the person who apparently stayed 3 days right before us, our experience was outstanding. Owner could not have been nicer, kinder, more polite, or more professional! He gave us some great information that helped make our trip so much better.

He was always there if we needed him...once, for a new light bulb which was totally unnecessary but he replaced it in minutes. He lives in a home behind the property and he does have to walk by on the way to town; he told us up front that we'd see him and we didn't feel like anyone was spying. We noticed him pass by twice in a week. The property is amazing. It doesn't look like a rental at all. It looks like a beautifully decorated and beautifully maintained home that is far nicer than we expected! The owner had every detail thought out for us. Every accommodation was there. It was ideal for our family size. We had 2 girls under 3 years of age, a 17 yr old son and a 20 yr old nephew, plus my wife and I. There is one bedroom downstairs. It's part of a wing off the back of the house that includes the living room/media room and it was perfect for the boys! The rest of us took the 2 bedrooms upstairs where there is also a walkout balcony with chairs and a great view of the mountains. Everyone had privacy and a place to get away if desired. I can't picture a big group and campers here. That sounds like a lot of people and there are only two parking spaces in the drive behind the house. Summer is busy (!) and finding a parking spot on the street can be a challenge. When we travel we stay at places like the 4 Seasons Hotel, The Plaza, The Palace, and The Waldorf Astoria (yes, we go to NY a lot). We've never received better care at any of these places! The house is in the perfect location too. Elk is one street away! If we need anything from the store (i.e. more Bathroom Tissue), we sent the boys on their rented bikes and they'd be back in 5 minutes; no lie. Of course we could have asked for more and I'm sure we would have been obliged. I hate to argue with anyone, but I don't get it. This home and the owner are fantastic! We'll be back during ski season!

Unfortunate Experience

Starting with the pros, this property has an AMAZING location and the house decor was gorgeous. The kitchen was fully stocked with more than enough wares/utensils/etc. and the spice drawer was an unexpected bonus!

The greatest disappointment in staying at this VRBO property was the persistent conflict with the owner. Our group of (4) families arrived VERY excited for our weekend getaway and by the end of the trip, we were exhausted by the owner's numerous "check-ins" and contract agreement updates which, in my opinion, bordered on harassment.

Our first night consisted of the owner dropping by around 11PM seemingly inebriated on his "way to the bars" and being upset that we had told two friends that they could park in the driveway and sleep in their camper overnight. The owner indicated that this was not allowed so we asked our friends to leave in order to accommodate the impromptu drop-in and subsequent ordinance. Even after we agreed to have our friends leave the property, the owner became increasingly agitated and started asking unreasonable questions including, "Are you going to let your friends use the bathroom in the house?" which didn't seem relevant or appropriate to the situation at hand.

On two other occasions, we spotted the owner walking around the property while we were home, which made some sense given his interest to keep an eye on things; however, this amount of watchfulness felt intrusive and disruptive to our leisurely stay.

In the end, based on the owner's observations, he added additional fees not originally stated in the contract, which felt incredibly unfair given that our group had already paid a rather hefty amount for the 3-night stay. On our way out, we scrubbed the kitchen, vacuumed the floors, and collected all linens for easy clean-up. Regardless of our efforts to appease the owner, he said that he was upset that we had utilized the spare toilet paper stored in the house...It seemed like our walking on eggshells for the weekend and additional efforts were futile...

Regardless of its appearance and location, I would NOT recommend this home to future renters. The incredibly strict observation, invasion of privacy, and unforeseen additional costs, greatly depreciates this location's value and experience. I would also have to say that although the listing states "pet's considered" and "children welcome" it seems that these factors may have also played a role in the owner's over-watchful eye.

Home away from home in CB

This historic property is even better than it looks. It is within walking distance of great restaurants and activities as well as the city shuttle to the ski resort. The house is beautifully appointed and functional, and the perfect kitchen has everything you might need. The artwork, photos and personal touches make this house something special, and the owner's attention to detail and helpfulness made our stay as good as it gets. But for our group, the best thing about staying here was that it was not like being in a rental - we felt like we were visiting someone's home.

Perfect!!! Love this house!!

We knew we liked the look of this house from the pictures online, but they just don't completely convey how awesome this house really is. The kitchen is HUGE and has really great appliances and everything else you might need (including the very tasty coffee beans provided as a gift by the owner). There is really great original art all over the house along with some really beautiful Persian rugs and antiques. I am a bit of a bed snob, and all I can say is these beds are soooo comfortable! Who doesn't like super- soft sheets and down pillows and comforters? And good mattresses! The house is spacious enough to have a lot of people and not be cramped- there were 6 of us, and it was great. OK, and the location- it can't get any better. We were only a block from the main drag (Elk Ave.), so we could walk to go out to dinner, enjoy all the adult beverages we wanted, and walk back home easily. But the neighborhood is really quiet, which was super for sleeping. The yard is big and well-kept and has a big hot tub to soothe your tired bones after mountain bike rides or hikes. Nice grill, mature trees, flower beds...I can't say enough. The owner was very nice and accommodating, even though we never needed to contact him for anything. It is definitely worth the price of admission!!! We had a blast, and we will definitely rent this house again.
