The Long House of the Mas d’Arjac, built in 1738, has been completely renovated by local artisans using traditional methods. It now combines its charming stone and timbers with modern comforts to provide the perfect holiday home in the heart of the French countryside. Situated at the meeting point of the Aveyron, Lot and Tarn et Garonne departments, Arjac is a perfectly situated base for exploring this most beautiful corner of France. Najac, Villefranche de Rouergue and Saint Antonin Noble Val are all within a short drive. The accommodation to rent consists of two double bedrooms (one en suite) and a further bedroom with three beds, kitchen/dining room, living room and bathroom. There is a walled patio at the front of the house, and a lawn area to the rear. Guests are invited to make the most of the meadows and woodland which form the Arjac estate. The Long House is adjacent to the owner’s house and guests of the Long House have the 16 x 4m pool and its surrounding terrace to themselves.

About Simon Clark

Hi, my name is Simon Clark and I am the owner of Le Mas d'Arjac. I love this part of France and am completely in love with Arjac and the surrounding area! After a long career in tour operating working for a couple of Britain's best known travel companies, I decided to retrain as a teacher and have worked in one of the UK's most prestigious schools for the last 10 years as a teacher of French and Spanish. I love my main job, but the 18 weeks holiday a year has given me the chance to develop the Mas d'Arjac into a wonderful holiday home where I have been lucky enough to welcome and look after families from all over the world over the last five years.

Why Simon Clark chose Vailhourles

The Mas d'Arjac is superbly situated at the head of a valley, surrounded by woodland and fields, and is very green and very peaceful. The collection of stone buildings which forms the Mas is exceptionally picturesque, and the gardens, terraces and pool area are ample and well maintained for the benefit of our guests. I bought the property to create a haven of relaxation and good-living, and also to run a small arts centre in my upcoming retirement based on the recently restored Atelier which is a beautiful recital room and rehearsal space in the grounds. What makes this farmhouse unique

I had visited 29 properties in SW France before setting foot in Arjac. It was love at first sight! Most of all I loved its setting, the beauty of the stone buildings and the extensive terraced gardens and pool. Since restoring the Long House and the barn (now the Atelier) the Mas is attracting guests who appreciate the tranquility and high standards of accommodation. They also like the discreet service which we are able to provide (when required) for ideas for visits, restaurants, local markets etc enabling our guests to settle in and start relaxing more quickly.

Perfection in Arjac...

We regularly holiday in France in villas and Arjac was one of the best in our experience. Located in total peace and tranquility, we were greeted genuinely enthusiastically by Simon the owner. Everything that has been done by way of renovation to the property and the grounds has been done sympathetically and beautifully. The Long House was immaculate and had everything we needed to for a young family of five. The surrounding area is stunning and the kids greatly enjoyed the acres of adventures to be had on the grounds. All in all, a fantastic holiday and one I would highly recommend.

Heerlijk ontspannen in mooie omgeving

Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien: ruime woonkamer, volledige keuken met een lange eettafel, lekker terrasje en prima badkamers. De slaapvertrekken zijn ruim en bieden comfortabel ruimte aan 7 man. Er kunnen vast ook meer mensen verblijven maar het slaap-comfort is dan wel wat minder. Het woonverblijf is omgeven door bomen, gras- en heideveld. Het zwembad is heerlijk. Niet alleen om in te spelen maar ook om baantjes in te trekken. Let wel, het zwembad kent geen ondiepe gedeeltes waardoor het minder geschikt is voor kleine kinderen. De eigenaars wonen ook op het erf in een eigen huis, maar zij bieden de gasten voldoende privacy. Eigenaar Simon is een wandelend toeristen-kantoor en barst van de (culinaire) suggesties. Het is echt een prachtig woonverblijf op een mooie plek met voldoende afleiding in de omgeving. Una casa muy especial en un lugar magnífico

Fue nuestra primera vez en este tipo de vacaciones. Estuvimos con niños de diferentes edades y con los abuelos. Y tenemos que admitir que, para todos, fue una experiencia única. La casa, aún siendo del siglo XVIII, está fantásticamente reformada, manteniendo su aspecto original, pero con todas las comodidades modernas. El entorno es un pequeño trozo de bellísimo paraíso. Disfrutas de una total tranquilidad, pero a muy poca distancia tienes unos fabulosos pueblos medievales, con una amplia variedad de restaurantes y muchas otras diversas actividades para toda la familia. No podemos esperar a nuestras próximas vacaciones ya que repetimos!!!! Leticia

Tranquil and comfortable

Very tranquil location, description in brochure spot on, so if you like the description, believe and go there. Lots to do within the area and further a field, or just sit by the pool and listen to the birdsong. Fascinating landscapes, opportunities to walk from the house and butterflies are amazing. Villefrance and St Antonin markets a must, a good area for foodies, fantastic meal at Belcastel, Vieux Pont but lovely sitting out area at house to enjoy locally purchased food.

Just Perfect

We had the loveliest of autumn breaks at Le Mas d'Arjac. Hidden away, surrounded by woods and fields it is a peaceful haven. We had country walks, wonderful food in restaurants in Villefranche ( 20 mins drive away) and several of the picturesque towns a bit further afield, picnic lunches on the terrace, and sunbathed by the pool.....yes....even in October! The gîte is extremely well equipped and very comfortable. One couldn't ask for more! We shall be booking again.....and again......

The ages in my party ranged from 6 years old to 84 years old and all were well catered for. We had a marvellous holiday. The property was immaculate from the Eqyptian cotton sheets to the welcoming bottle of wine, etc on our arrival. The owner was very welcoming and provided excellent advice regarding sporting activities, fantastic restaurants, beautiful villages and local markets. Canoeing in the Aveyron Gorge was one of our favourite trips. The house is set in a stunning area of France and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to my friends.

Although we are in La France profonde, it is just 15 minutes by car to the ancient town of Villefranche de Rouergue. Villefranche is not only handy for its excellent shopping, restaurants, and Thursday market, but also has a fascinating history as a bastide – a fortified mediaeval town with a fine, arcaded central square and an imposing collegiate church. As a market town serving a huge rural area, Villefranche provides all ones practical needs in a stunning setting. There are no fewer than 10 of Les plus beaux villages de France within an hour’s drive of Arjac, as well as two Grand Sites de France, Conques and Albi. Easy half or full day outings can also be made to Saint Antonin Noble Val, Corde-sur-Ciel, Cahors, Figeac, Rocamadour, les Gouffres de Padirac, the Lot valley, St Cirque la Popie, Roquefort, the Viaduc de Millau, and the Gaillac wine region – all attractive and fascinating destinations.

Guests have the 16m x 4m swimming pool to themselves as well as the pool deck and furniture between 9h00 and 20h00 each day. There is a dining terrace at the front of the Long House and guests are invited to make use of the woodland and meadows which form the Arjac estate. Guests may use the laundry facilities in the buanderie under the owner’s house.
