In the huge yard, down by the water, walk your own private Labyrinth built of seashells. For many years the Sea of Peace was a spiritual retreat run by the Catholic Church. Now it is a vacation weekly rental for individuals, families, fishermen, kayakers, bird watchers, bicyclers, nature lovers, etc. Bring you favorite beach companion. We are pet friendly.
The Sea of Peace, a private Edisto Island Retreat, is located on the marshes of Fishing Creek in the 'Neck' off Palmetto Road very close to the Atlantic Ocean. The large cottage is near the back entrance of Edisto Beach State Park and from the property it is an easy 30 minute bicycle ride over maritime forest trails and marsh boardwalks to Big Bay and Scott Creeks, the Spanish Mount, the State Park cabins, Live Oak Campground and on to the commercial district of Edisto Beach and the Atlantic Ocean where you will find the beach front section of Edisto Beach State Park, restaurants & other activities. Also the town of Edisto Beach has extensive bike trails throughout the barrier island. The almost 2-acre yard at the Sea of Peace has plenty of parking-even for several big fishing boats and RV's. Big Bay Public Boat Landing is approx. 1 mile away for access to the South Edisto River and Steamboat Landing is nearby for the North Edisto River, Bohikit Creek, Rockville, Kiawah Island, and Charleston. This area is famous for boating, kayaking, exploring, nature studies, old plantation mansions, seashells galore. Incredible Botany Bay is nearby and open to the public for exploring, hunting, surf fishing, hiking and bike riding on an uninhabited coastline and wilderness beach enjoyment. The Sea of Peace comes with its own private Labyrinth made of rocks and seashells gathered from nearby beaches. The Labyrinth was built by nuns many years ago for a spiritual retreat and is still used today for quiet contemplation. The Sea of Peace is the perfect coastal retreat for relaxing, recreation, writing, art workshops, spiritual retreats, reunions, etc. The city of Charleston is less than an hour away and Walterboro, Savannah, and Beaufort are close by for day trips.
