Overview

Upper West Side Apartment Rental Photos and Description

A Cottage Feel, In A Sea Of Architectural Greatness!!

Lovely Private Rooftop Penthouse Studio available! This Studio sits on top of the Parc Coliseum with the rooftop as your private space. The Terraced area of the rooftop is surrounded by some of New York's finest architecture including the Ansonia and the Alexandria. At night you can see the lights and some of the buildings located in Time Square, and all of The Freedom Tower, which is lit.

With large windows on three of the four studio walls, and a private terrace on a private rooftop outside of the windows, you will feel like you are staying in a small house while living 1/2 block from the 72 street subway stop on New York's Upper West Side! This cool studio has 2 private side-by-side elevators which you key for access to the Penthouse. There is a fully equipped kitchen and full bath with shower and tub. The studio living space is shaped like a large dog bone with the main living space on one end the elevators in the middle and the kitchen and bath at the other end.

Start your morning with coffee on the terrace under your sun umbrella and feast your eyes on lovely architecture and sky. Spend your day walking to numerous neighborhood locations, or grab a cab or subway at the end of the street, then return to unwind with a glass of wine in the cool breeze of the outdoors before stepping out for the evening! This time of year, a coat is required!

-3 blocks to Central Park

-3 blocks to The Hudson River, The Hudson River Park,

Pier Restaurant and bike trail that runs the entire length

of Manhattan

-3.5 blocks to Lincoln Center

-5 blocks to the Museum of Natural History

-1/2 block to the 72 street subway

The bed is a Sterns and Forest Queen with 600 thread count sheets. There is a 40' television with cable and Roku for streaming Netflix, Macintosh computer and WiFi, a multi-purpose print, copy, scan machine. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and the bathroom shower is marble. I am the second tenant to rent the space since renovation and there are full laundry facilities in the basement.

The Penthouse comes with Fluffy the female cat. You will only see her a little at first as she is a bit timid, however, you will be responsible for feeding her daily. Cat liter is out on the rooftop in a quant old wooden dog house so you won't be bothered by that!

I realize this is not the season to be outside, however, the feeling of isolation in such a busy city is a rare oasis!!! And, being able to look out, or even better to walk right out your own door for a private view of the city is an amazing morning, noon, or evening event!

About Karen Nye

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan I had a great life living with the resources the University of Michigan had to offer. After graduating from college, I taught elementary education and continued my education until I graduated again and became the Director of John Denver's Wildwood School in Aspen, Co. 10 years later my son was born. Wow, no time for anything but wanting to be a mom. The bills had to be payed however so I started my own company which I still own and run today.

Built on the shoulders of my mother's company (Calico 'N Things), CNT Pattern Co. is very much a homegrown business. As sole proprietor, I'm one of those lucky kids who got the opportunity to return to the soft down of mother's wing. The knowledge she shares with me provides the base on which my company is standing.

After moving close enough to my home in Aspen to fully enjoy her grandchild, my mother encouraged me to produce patterns for her company. I had taught school, run my own school and written a book titled 'Building Self-Esteem For Decision Making: A How-To Handbook for Parents and Educators of Young Learners - Ages 3-7' (now there's a mouthful). With a desire to build a little more self-esteem of my own, I decided to follow my mother's suggestion.

Why Karen Nye chose Upper West Side

If you like the feeling of solitude, this space with it's windows and views wherever you look, above the bustle of the city is for you. It is quiet, yet uniquely located to some of New York's greatest performances at Lincoln Center! And New York's gem Central Park as well as The Fairway Market, Citarella's.

What makes this apartment unique

It is amazing to ride up to the top floor of the Parc Coliseum in an elevator and have the doors open into your apartment! 5 steps out of the elevator, open your french door and walk out onto your very own private rooftop with views of some of the greatest architecture in New York, The Ansonia, World Trade Center, Trump Tower.

Best Value Location in the City

Broadway and museums are a walkable distance. The subway is half a block away. The apartment is comfortable and classy. The landlord goes overboard to be helpful.

Excellent rooftop terrace, great neighborhood, world's sweetest cat, & delightful landlady!!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our 2 week stay and highly recommend it, and will try to stay there every time I come to New York City. Every aspect of the apartment was even better than it was described, and the landlady the best I've worked with in all my experiences with VRBO. Karen had everything perfectly prepared for our arrival and was always very responsive if we had questions. Just a delightful straightforward person to work with, very thoughtful and considerate.

It's hard to describe how cool it is to get to live on the roof of a 16 story building in the heart of the upper west side.....you're only a half a block away from all the activity on Broadway and Columbus, and from the 72st subway station....but when you step out of the elevator into the apartment you get to enter your own private world of peace and calm. From the roof you can see the river, the park, and midtown. When the sun sets and the city lights up, the views get even better.

The apartment is small but very functional. The bathroom and kitchen have been tastefully remodeled, all systems and appliances were working perfectly. The layout of the kitchen is perfect for one person to knock out some good meals (Karen has everything there that you'd need to cook and one of the best grocery stores in the city is a block away). The main room has a window with a cool view on 3 of its 4 walls. The bed is super comfortable. Just a good place to hangout. The weather droped well below freezing while we were there but the place stayed toasty, always very pleasant.

Our very favorite part of our exceptional experience in the apartment was definitely Fluffy the cat. What an absolute sweetheart. If you like cats, you'll love this one. Very independent, hangs out on the roof most of the day, then would come in to hang with us in the evenings and sleep in the bedroom. Hated to leave her when it was time to go.

The building staff and other tenants that we met were all nice and very helpful. If you're not familiar with the neighborhood, it's chocked full of cool smaller restaurants, shops and services of every kind...all within a block or two.

If you're looking for a really pleasant experience located right in the heart of the west side but with some unique privacy I'd highly recommend staying here. We've rented a number of VRBO properties over the years (and really good experiences with them all) and this is by far our favorite. Will try to stay here everytime I return to the City.

Rooftop was delightful!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the Rooftop apartment was as pictured and wonderful! The bed was super comfy and the space roomy and the apartment well equipped. Communication with Karen was above & beyond. It is located in one of our favorite neighborhoods. My husband & I are hoping to make NYC and the Rooftop an annual event.

A Little Upper West Side Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I stayed 4 nights. Karen met me at the apartment and welcomed me upon arrival. Everything is as she says it is on the website. Location is fantastic. Block from the subway. Block from Starbucks and trader joes. I plan on bringing my husband next spring and staying longer. I loved the cats!
