4 Bedroom, 1 1/2 Bath, Renovated Farmhouse With A Big Private Backyard

Our old island farmhouse provides a peaceful, family retreat in a great location.

The house feels very private - there are no houses in sight from the back yard.

It is a bright, casual and simply decorated home. We love it!

We have an open floor plan downstairs for the kitchen, family room and dining area (with a table that seats 12) and doors to a new deck in the backyard. The kitchen has custom cabinets, cement counter tops with an eating/bar area. There is also a cozy, den with 2 couches and a TV/DVD setup. There is also a full-size washer and dryer and full bath off the kitchen.

Upstairs we have 4 bedrooms and a half bath. Two bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has bunk beds and the other bedroom has 2 twin beds.

The backyard is over half an acre with 5 old, oak trees providing lush shade. We also have large, private outdoor shower.

About Daren Gill

My dream of owning a house on Biock Island came true in 2011. My wife and I often say we have been looking for our own house on the island for 18 years. The island has been a special, favorite place for both of us since we starting going there as kids.

We currently live in Concord, MA with our two kids (Margaret 14 and Christopher 12), and our chocolate lab, Fergus. It would be difficult for us to say who loves being out on the island the most, but Fergus might just win. It is a great place for dogs, who are allowed on the beach and generally appreciated by people wherever you go.

Why Daren Gill chose Block Island

We never thought we would own an island home with as much character, yard, style or even bedrooms. We looked at many, many tiny cottages, or condos - and feel all our waiting paid off when we finally found our house on Pilot Hill. Good friends from high school, who live on the island year-round, helped us to do the renovations. We pulled down walls, ripped up floors, struggled with old electrical wiring, but it all came together and we couldn't be happier.

Last year (summer 2012) was our first year renting and this year we have decided to do it ourselves. We hope you will enjoy special times in our special place.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Block Island has some unique old farmhouses which have similar details. This house is one of those. The upstairs has an island feel that reminds me of so many of my friends' homes when I was little. Sand on the floor, old windows at knee-height upstairs with low-ceilings. The backyard is long and flat with fantastic old trees -- great for climbing. We put on a nice big deck, with a wraparound bench for enjoying the backyard and distant view at all times of the day.

WE LOVED Block Island. WE loved your home. My two older teens sat right down at either end of the long table and began a series of drawings, painting and other art work that carried through the week. We biked everywhere---left our car on the mainland. The house is so easy and the island also has a simple beauty that we loved…it led to the perfect simple existence we needed after a very, very busy school year. Thank you so much.

Wonderful Getaway

Family of 5 spent 8 wonderful days on BI at this wonderful home, and weeks afterwards still thinking about the beauty of the place. The home was within a "just right" walk to town, and uphill on the way back from town to work off dinner. Bike rental is a very short walk away. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower! Perfect ending after a day at the beach! Puzzles and games aplenty. You'll want a car, primarily for toting luggage and/or beach chairs. But, bikes work great too. Views were great, especially around the lighthouses. Favorite spots were Mansion Beach, Clayhead Trail & Rodman's Hollow. (Last 2 are idyllic for trail runners.) If you like a quiet & quaint setting ... this is the vacation spot for you.

Your house was absolutely perfect for us! We walked into town easily, biked everywhere, and enjoyed leaving the car in the driveway! I appreciated that your kitchen was equiped with everything we needed, and could have possibly used... You definitely thought of making sure your guests were well taken care of.
The house was immaculate, bright, comfortable, great living (and relaxing) areas, and had lovely cross breezes. We hope to return next year if you rent again.

Breezy and Easy

It is difficult to get back to reality after a week at the Gill Farmhouse on Block Island. This comfortable home that sits upon breezy Pilot's Hill. Board games, movies, books, and memorable dinners around the dining table gave this family a chance to regroup and enjoy each other's company. Extremely comfortable sitting areas and a very well stocked kitchen made it easy to make ourselves at home. A short walk to town to enjoy shopping, and a perfect view for the 4th of July Fireworks show! We would definitely recommend kayaking at The Pond and Beyond, Mansion Beach, a trip to the North Lighthouse and more than one trip to the Bluffs. The home makes a comfortable respite from a day exploring or relaxing. We look forward to returning.
