About Jillian Greenwood

Windermere Hood Canal has brought excellence and professionalism to the clients we serve in the Hood Canal area for well over two decades. We had so many inquiries from people wanting to come and enjoy Hood Canal that in 2006 we launched our Vacation Rentals component. We truly love the area and all its amenities. Our home owners are all wonderful people and each has a home with its very own unique attributes.

Jillian Greenwood purchased this villa in 2011

Why Jillian Greenwood chose Quilcene

Hood Canal Master's Retreat is truly a beautiful home that's so lovingly and tastefully constructed and furnished. It's surrounded by woods and privacy yet has the benefit of all the WiFi, satellite TV, flip of the switch gas fireplace, and spa-like bath features you could ever need. The views are amazing and give you that tranquil feeling - you'll want to stay longer than you planned!

What makes this villa unique

We really love the way the home was designed with master suites on either wing from the central areas. Both are so beautiful it's hard to choose which one to stay in!

Quilcene is known as 'The Pearl of the Peninsula' with Art galleries, wonderful people, and public beaches containing the renowned shellfish Hood Canal is famous for. Also very close by (about a 15-20 minute drive) is the Olympic Music Festival which is locally owned, highly recommended and attracts visitors from around the world.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed four nights and had a great time at this rental. With two master suites located on opposite ends of the house, we were able to fit both us and our twin one-year-olds on one end of the home, while our friends stayed in the other master suite and we weren't bothered at all by any noise. We were lucky enough to have great weather while there and spent quite a bit of time outside enjoying the deck that runs the entire length of the back of the home, as well as the fire and horse shoe pits. We really enjoyed the Bald Eagle nest that sits on the bluff about 50 yards from the home, as well as the complete quiet of the whole place. The rental agency says there is no beach access and they aren't fibbing. The home sits about 200' above the water with at least a 100' drop off so it truly does not have beach access. We found the house very comfortable and stocked with almost everything we needed. For those not familiar with the area like we weren't, the home is located in Quilcene, a small town with limited services so bring all the things you think you may need. We found the small organic market and the restaurant to be quite good and would recommend stopping at those if you need anything. Rate overall experience as excellent and would recommend.

Worked great for our needs. Would have liked more doors for privacy and window coverings in the shower/bath in one of the master suites. Oh, and a shower curtain.

Secluded, peaceful getaway

  • 4 of 5
A bit remote, but the house is beautiful and the view of Dabob Bay through the trees is gorgeous! Beautifully built and decorated, love the 2 master suites(our 2 teenage kids liked having their own space) and the kitchen is nice. Be prepared to wake early, though, as there were no window coverings in our bedroom and only white sheers in the 2nd master suite so it was light and bright very early in the morning. Also no window coverings at all in our bathroom. The house is very remote from neighbors but it takes getting used to, as there is a large picture window next to the tub. One of the TV's, which was listed as an amenity, was missing as well and when we called about it we found out that the owner had removed it to have some repairs done. We felt that we should have been notified ahead of time especially as this was a specifically listed amenity. Our boys like to play video games in the evening while we watch a DVD so we had planned on having the 2nd TV for that purpose. The response we got from property management had a "Oh, well, too bad" vibe to it so that did not sit well with us.
Lots of places to drive to and explore. Lake Cushman, Staircase, John Wayne Marina(which is a beautiful place for a picnic). Hood Canal is our favorite place to go. There is beauty everywhere you look.
Overall, I would say this place is beautiful, restful, peaceful. A fantastic place to sit out on the huge deck and read a good book and soak in the quiet. Oh, and I LOVED the sleep number bed!!!!!

Amazing Trip

  • 5 of 5
I rented this house with another couple. We each have 1 kid, and a dog joined the party. Bottom line, we had one of the best vacations, largely because of this house. It was relaxing, it had all of the amenities we needed, and the beauty surrounding it made it memorable. It was so nice to wake up each morning, walk on the deck and see the water. We loved the fact it was quiet, secluded, and nestled in the woods. The process of checking out was simple, and we had no issues.

From our house, we took incredible day trips to Port Townsend, Rialto Beach, Seattle, and Dosewallips State Park. Near Dose, we rented a longboard and kayak, and made our way to Dose, where we saw several seals and bald eagles. The kids loved the water, and we loved the views. Incredible. At Port Townsend, we went to an awesome Farmer's Market. Rialto Beach was something out of a movie, and Seattle was beautiful. All of these trips are manageable, and so much fun.

We also liked the small town feel. We made several trips to Quilcene Market, because they had good organic food.

I would recommend this place to a small family, or a couple like we did. We fell in love with Washington, and would do this trip again in a heartbeat.

Nice house but not worth the time, money and stress

  • 1 of 5
Good:
- The house is tastefully furnished with two big Master Bed room with bath. (it has a high end feeling vs. a homey feeling)
- Quiet (if that is what you are searching for in a vacation)
Clean and Neat (inside the house)
Bad:
- Remote with REALLY NOT much to do in the house or around the area
- they have dish for TV, a few board games and no DVD
- drive out to the nearest town Quilcene is 15 mins one way
- driving there took us ~3 hours from Bellevue WA
- no beach access or even a beach nearby
- The closest town is Quilcene and it has really not much to offer
- The windows are very dirty so as the outdoor furniture. (Well the view is not really that great so it is okay for us I guess)
- There is not a flat area outside for the kids to run around and for little kids, it might be dangerous as it is a pretty high cliff
- We tried to BBQ outside but the wind is so high we end up cut short and stayed in.
- The rental manager (it is not handled by the owner) didn't make me feel like a guest or welcomed at all (vs business-like/formal)
-- normally if the house is not rent out for the next day, my experience is the owner will let you have a couple of extra hours (late check out). For this rental, you need to pay extra in order to needing to rush out after eating breakfast
-- after the rental, the manager emailed us and complained about some mics details and deducted $50 from our deposit. I politely complained to him but he didn't even bother to response to me.

WARNING - if you are to rent the house, make sure you follow the checkout instruction to every single letter and word. MAKE sure you clean the house to the original condition!!! OTW - you will be charged extra $$$$ on top of the cleaning fee you already have to pay.

Bottom line - if your main goal for a vacation is to stay in a beautiful house, watch some TV, read some books and take a long hot bath, this house will work great for you. :)

For me, I would rather stay home to avoid the driving and all the stress.
