I was born 1947, and trained as graphic designer in London, worked as designer, writer and film critic in Norway. Stayed with my family in Italy and South Africa for some years and then took early retirement. I am now enjoying traveling and working with real estate development. When this Oslo property is rented out, I myself usually stay in an other apartment below. This means I am seldom far away should you need any assistance.

Morten PR Russell Wedén purchased this apartment in 1987

The house sits high on a hill overlooking a lovely park. I was always attracted to this house and area for many years. Then came the opportunity to purchase. When I bought the apartment more than 25 years ago, I immediately connected to it. I felt I was 'home'. It is always like that with homes; it’s either love at first sight or there is no connection at all. This apartment is a perfect shelter, a place where you can relax completely. You image you are in the country, yet you are in the middle of a city. My three sons have grown up here. Recently the facade went through a major restoration and most of the original details are in place. This apartment still has the original lay out, and although it has modern appliances throughout, it has hardly been altered since it was built in 1897. It is filled with lots of artefacts, prints, sculptures and antiques.

Through the years I have introduced some architectual salvage into the apartment; intarsia doors for wardrobe, old glass stained windows for kitchen cupboard among other things. These items do not contrast, but complement the apartment, so does the comprehensive library, consisting mainly of English books. One guest even complained that he couldn’t get himself out of the apartment enough because he got so engrossed in the books! But you don’t really have to go very far; on a sunny afternoon a stay on the veranda is total bliss... And in the morning you can bring your coffee with you out on the other side. In winter you can enjoy a drink in front of the roaring fire in the living room.

I can never see myself giving this apartment up for another.

Like taking a holiday in a different era!

This is a great apartment, very spacious and comfortable. The décor is unique, lots of statues and quirky ornaments. It feels as though you have taken a step back in time. There was everything we needed, though, for the modern holiday - wifi, television with dvd, efficient heating (underfloor heating in the bathrooms!), kitchen gadgets, and most importantly a comfortable homely atmosphere. It is in easy waling distance of the centre, but we purchased Oslo passes and made the most of a very user friendly transport network. Would thoroughly recommend Oslo for a long weekend break - it has whetted our appetite for returning to Norway and visiting other parts in the summer. Thank you Morten for all your help and for the bread, cheese etc on our late evening arrival.

We stayed for just short of a week over New Years in Oslo before travelling onto Bergen. Mortens apartment is absolutely wonderful, made for a fantastic base to explore Oslo. Not far from the centre at all we walked to and from every day without any issues. As eating and drinking out is very expensive we stayed in every night and cooked but thoroughly enjoyed it. Very cosy with the fire going and the apartment has everything you need!
We have and will recommend staying here to everyone!

Thanks,
Claire

Live Like A Local in Luxury!

We were totally comfortable and felt like lucky locals staying in Morten's flat. When we visited the Norwegian Folk Museum and saw the "historic apartment building" we had to laugh because our flat had more character and style than the ones on display, with a real historic feel, while still feeling quite livable and comfortable.

The full kitchen and washer and dryer were appreciated. We were able to make most of our meals at home, eating out three times during our seven nights in Oslo. Everything worked very well. The bed was comfortable and having two bathrooms was a luxury. We also enjoyed sitting out on the veranda overlooking the park.

With a bus pass we could easily get into the city center and back without much trouble. We were also able to walk to the Botanical Gardens and the Munch Museum, passing through some interesting areas of the city. The apartment is close to a very good pizza shop, a nice gourmet market, and other shopping.

Morten was a perfect host, greeting us upon arrival, orienting us to the apartment and the neighborhood, and very personable and considerate of our questions.

The property is a good value and really gives a much more memorable experience than staying at an institutional hotel. If we return to Oslo, we would definitely hope to stay here again.
Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having you staying!

Unique Apartment - great location

There were four of us traveling and we wanted the experience of renting an apartment, close to downtown and to get a feel for being part of the "Oslo" life. We had a great time, the apartment has a bit of everything from old, to newer - it is not got all the amenities of a hotel - but that is what we liked. Having a place to cook - sit on the porch and view the people going by - all made for a great stay.

A wonderful eclectic and quirky place to stay.

This has been my favourite holiday for a long time, Oslo is an awesome place and has something for everyone to enjoy. Morten is a charming host and very knowledgeable about things to do and places to have fun.

The house is very grand and is suffused throughout with wonderful art and sculptures. It is personalised with lots of little intimate mementos of the owners life. The furnishings are witty and amusing but also practical. The beds are comfortable. I cannot fault this as a place to stay, it's central to all public transport and is within easy walking distance of the centre, but also opposite a lovely park with it's own little cafe in the centre where you can while away the hours reading or just watching the people go by.

When I arrived here, it felt like coming home. I could easily live here happily ever after! Lovely, if you're thinking of coming to Oslo, come here, you won't regret it.
Owner's Response: Very happy you liked it and had a good time! Welcome back!

From the park right outside the apartment one has a panoramic view of Oslo, the fjord, the Holmenkollen ski jump and the wooded hills surrounding the city. During winter there is only a short trip to an eldorado for cross country- snow board or down hill skiers.

During summer you can just hang out in the popular park (it has an open air café), enjoy numerous good restaurants (Collets Cafe, Arte Pazza, Pascal, SmalHans, Schröder or the unusual Underwater Pub, where you can enjoy live opera on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings), Alternatively you can walk to the city centre in 15 - 20 minutes.(Also bus no. 21 and 37). From the city centre (in front of the Town Hall) you can take a short ferry trip to the Viking Ships Museum, the Folk Museum and the Kon Tiki Museum at Bygdøy. Or go swimming at Bygdøy’s popular beach Huk. Or you could go out to one of the islands for swimming or sightseeing. Oslo has many museums (Astrup Fearnley, Edvard Munch, National Gallery, Gustav Vigeland Park & Museum etc) in its centre. The city has quite a hectic nightlife with bars, music clubs and restaurants to cater for any taste. And during the summer there is only a few hours of darkness. Temperatures in summer vary between 16 to 22 but can reach 30 degrees centigrades. During winter temperatures vary between minus 1 to minus 15 centigrades.

Golf: The nearest golf course is situated at BOGSTAD, an estimated 7 km drive away (north west – Ankerveien 127). The Oslo Golf Club here is the oldest in Norway, established 1924 in an undulating parkland set on the banks of Lake Bogstad which borders the layout on two sides. The location is charming with generous fairways with some doglegs and plenty of trees which will only occasionally come into play after a wayward drive. The course was extensively renovated i 2009 by Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates, which included fairway and green drainage works and improved playing surfaces.

Tel. 0047 225 10560. Booking in advance is advised.

Ski: SKIING and SNOWBOARDING in Tryvann – 5 km drive away north or direct tram. Tryvann Vinterpark has a ski market share of more than 60% in the Oslo area and is the sixth largest ski resort in Norway measured by lift ticket sales, hosting close to 220.000 visitors per season. Two modern quad chairs provide uplift and there's a well featured terrain park. The normal season stretches from the beginning of December to mid-April with most of the runs covered by snowmaking open for night skiing to 10pm most of the season. Tryvann has direct access to 14 individual pistes, served by 6 ski lifts, a capacity of 10,000 skiers / snowboarders per hour. Snow cover is generally reliable due to the Scandinavian climate from November to April. Oslo airport within one hour’s drive, (or direct tram/airport express) so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Tryvann are perfectly feasible. All levels of skier ability, from Beginner to Expert, well-catered for. Highly rated by Snowboarders
