About Ulrike Verhelst
I came to Provence for the first time in April 1989 to a friends house warming party and fell in love with the area, the ambience, the lifestyle and the light. I spent 5 days looking at properties and bought Maison Durance because of its stunning south facing location, and view over the Durance valley. This for me is a second home and it is decorated as such and has that feel. The idea is that we can all arrive and settle in immediately. You will find books, CD's, DVD's maps, a well stock kitchen cupboard and house hold products including a drinks tray. We all have busy lives and no doubt stress and Maison Durance has always been a place where you can relax, chill out and enjoy a very peaceful and natural setting. There again head out in any directions and there are interesting places to visit, beautiful walks, great vineyards and restaurants, sophisticated shopping in Aix or Avignon, beautiful coastline or as a sign in my garden notes 'Relax it does not get much better than this'. I have always shared Maison Durance with friends and family and obviously paying guests - some of who are now very great friends and have seen the house develop overtime. The house is managed by Rene' & Ulrike who live close by and speak English, French and German.
