Located in Islamorada, the fishing capital of the world, this house is tucked away in a quite neighborhood on the bay side. The backyard consists of a private beach, custom BBQ pit, and a long pier with magnificent views of the Florida bay. There is ample room and depth to dock several boats in case you have any company. You will experience beautiful sunsets right off the end of the dock with a nice cool ocean breeze. During the day grab a rod and reel and toss in a line right off the dock, or jump in and grab a lobster nestled in the rocks below.
If the surf is too much for you to handle the house is just minutes from the famous Tiki Bar. If you want to go more upscale jump in the boat or car and head over to Mile Marker 88, a half mile away. Fantastic restaurants and bars abound, guaranteed not to disappoint.
The house comes equipped with high speed Internet accessible throughout the house along with cable and HDTV so you don’t have to worry about missing your favorite team play.
All the bathrooms have been recently updated with marble tile and fresh new fixtures. The master bedroom is furnished with a king size bed and it has a big walk in closet and a master bath with a separate powder room. The upstairs guest room is made up of two twin beds.
In the living room and family room there are plenty of couches just incase the sleeping quarters get too cramped. Just outside the living room and dining room there is a great screened in porch for relaxing and reading. There is a nice deck just outside the screened in porch running the length of the house for catching some rays.
Downstairs you will find a private suite with a queen bed and a full futon (comfortable spring mattress) along with its own private bathroom. Just outside the suite is a custom BBQ pit ready for grilling up your catch of the day.
Born and raised in Miami. Growing up I spent most of my weekends down in the Keys fishing, diving, and doing plenty of water sports. Recently I have been very busy with work and have not had much time to spare. We as a family finally made the decision to share this wonderful place.
Grant Souviron purchased this house in 1982
This house has been in the family for thirty years and will continue to stay in the family for at least another generation. This is where my dad taught me how to dive and fish and I plan to do the same with my own.
The warm water, marine life, and quick boat rides to all the cool spots in the middle keys made me fall in love with this place. The view and sunsets are amazing. It's close enough to Miami to make it an enjoyable drive yet far enough away to make you believe you are in another world.
Not much to add that hasn't already been captured in previous reviews - just wanted to contribute another 5 star review to this stellar property. Unbeatable views, quiet neighborhood, amazing dock and sea life right out the back door, and all the amenities you could ask for under the roof. Check-in/check-out couldn't have been easier. Highly recommended - thanks for sharing with the rest of us, Grant!
We spent New Years here. It was everything we had hoped for...and more. The location, accommodations, dock, etc are all excellent indeed! The dock was a huge selling point for us and we probably spent 75% of our time out there fishing, sunning and swimming. It was absolutely perfect. I'd say that we reeled in hundreds of fish (catch and release, of course.....although the Great White Heron stationed nearby would fly over to the dock and get a few handouts now and then!), including Blue-Striped Grunt, Leatherjackets, Gray Snapper, several Needlefish (on a tiny #10 hook with squid) and even a lone Checkered Pufferfish which went after a lure! Our daughters loved watching the Blue and Rainbow Parrotfish cruise around.....and of course the Manatee that dropped by. There's also a 2.5 foot Barracuda that we saw lurking about every day while snorkeling....not to mention some Spiny Lobster and a Tarpon that cruised through several times at night. Speaking of the evening hours -- it was very smart of the owners to install a submerged light at the end of the dock which illuminates the surrounding area so that you can see the fish and occasional rays that will cruise through the hypnotic green glow. The house itself is spacious, well decorated and quite comfortable..... and features top-notch sliding hurricane storm doors/plantation blinds. The downstairs suite was perfect for our teen daughters....And the Master bedroom suite is large with a very nice bathroom/shower set-up with fine, high-quality etched glass. The lone suggestion we would have (as mentioned by a previous reviewer) would be to increase the water pressure in the shower a bit.......although that might not be mechanically feasible? The kitchen is nice....as is the washer/dryer combo. Honestly, it's all nice! We'll definitely return.
We stayed here with family friends for Christmas (8 of us). It was absolutely wonderful. I hate to praise it so much because I would love to keep it a secret. Grant was great to work with and always promptly responded to any of my questions. The location is off of the main road in a quiet neighborhood so you felt that you were in your own paradise. The draw is of course the waterfront. We spent ALOT of time snorkeling off of the pier. We saw sting rays and even got close to some small nurse sharks. Another person commented that it was like an aquarium and it was true. We saw more fish here than on a snorkeling tour that we took. I know I always appreciate reading honest reviews. It really deserves 5 stars because of its location, the pier and its cleanliness. Some small improvements would make it a 5+: a better shower head in the separate bedroom suite and longer stock of hand soap and toilet paper. Not really a big deal. We picked up these supplies at the local store, but just something to be mindful of. One thing to know that at high season (which this was) it was very difficult to turn onto HWY 1. Just a FYI. Again, these are minor things and in no way detracted from our experience.
First time Vrbo user and I found the reviews the most helpful in picking a rental property. We knew about where we wanted to stay but never being in the Keys, there is always a little skepticism. Besides our GPS taking us to the wrong house at midnight, Our arrival went smooth. the house exceeded my expectations and we had plenty of room for everyone. The vies were amazing and the bathrooms first class. The kids played at the sand bar and the water was shallow enough we did not have much to fear. They enjoyed feeding the fish off the dock at night when it would light up. Our own aquarium of sorts. The location couldn't have been more ideal. We were within a few miles of everything. The house was spotless, well stocked, and the downstairs room had the privacy we needed for the grandparents. I didn't realize the stairs were not inside to the lower bedroom but it was ok. We ate at lots of different restaurants and our favorite had to be the Islamrorada Fish Company. It was a great meal for Thanksgiving Day. No turkey for us but many of the restaurants had a special turkey menu that day. My husband declared he would gladly stay again if we should decide to come back to the keys. Our vacation was spent doing nothing but enjoying the sunsets, surf, and water.
My kids want to come back so they can do more water sports and fishing. The wind got up and that brings most of that to a halt. We found a Putt Putt place and we all had a blast. It is a new venue and north near Key Largo. We also went to the Theater of the Sea and the grandkids made us stay for all the shows twice. That was a great adventure. Our favorite for the trip was sampling Key Lime Pie. Every day we would go out and hunt a new pie to sample. I think we all voted Kermit's Key Lime from Key West was the favorite. We gave a second place to Mac's Kitchen. Great Pie. We had one great vacation and would recommend this place to anyone.
I found everyone else's reviews on this property very helpful in deciding where to stay during out family vacation so here's my 2 cents.
This house was great for our family (we had my in-laws stay on the lower level - no stairs) and there was plenty of room for my sister and my parents later in the week. Bathrooms were amazing - esp. master with view of water.
The dock, views, and aquarium like fish were amazing. So many parrot fish, nurse sharks, sting rays/skates, large mangrove snappers, etc. The mangrove snapper are tricky to catch but chum and large pieces of ballyhoo worked well. Most of the big guys hide under the black floating dock. You can snorkel right at the dock (which we did) but visibility isn't as great as the reefs.
Things I recommend:
Grandpa's restaurant - near Ft. Lauderdale airport - great homemade food and key lime pie
Ballyhoos - all you can eat snow crab, stone crab and king crab - and in my opinion best key lime pie
Bud N Mary's - great for renting fishing gear, and boats (Bump N Jump) we had the boat names Why Knot - in Nov with the winds/waves its a little small but very doable to get out to the near by reefs (hens N chickens is best reef)
Feeding the Tarpon - at Bud N Mary's but Robbie's is the best and most famous place - be careful they do have teeth - we got some great videos of the feedings
Bird Sanctuary about 10 minutes from the house
Turtle hospital is about an hour and you have to make reservations - the tour is 90 minutes
Driving down to Key West - Deer Key, Robbie's, dinner at Hot Tin Roof was the best view of sunset
Glass bottom boat tour- Princess at was great for my in-laws (closest you'll get to snorkeling without doing it) - we saw 6 turtles on our trip.
Sparky's Landing - great restaurant for fish tacos and appetizers
Marker 88- great restaurant for sunset view on the beach
Islamorada Fish Co. - great views and food
Bayside Grill - best fish dip and yummy biscuits
Made 2 order - great breakfast place with amazing omelets
Mr. C's Ice cream - best homemade ice cream - no artificial flavors and they make the waffle cones right there
Only problem we had was a clogged toilet downstairs with was promptly taken care of and no further problems. House is well stocked with everything you need and Winn Dixie is open until midnight for food/beverages. We will definitely go back to the keys - I would love to live there some day and we would definitely use this house again.
We recently stayed at this home. It was updated and comfortable. The most important feature was the dock where we were able to keep a boat. The location is central in Islamorada and I would recommend.
This house is located in the heart of Islamorada, just minutes from the famous Robbys marina where you can feed the giant Tarpons. It's well worth the trip if you haven't been there before. If you have a desire to swim with dolphins the theater of the sea is just around the corner. The famous John Pennekamp coral reef park is just a 20 minute drive north. Take a snorkeling tour of the reef and see all the amazing marine life, a must do! If you are into bird watching the wild bird center is just a 10 minute drive away. They have a diverse variety of birds that they rescue and reintroduce into the wild. To sum everything up the location doesn't get much better.
