I'm Katia and I'm the hostess of PODERE MOLINACCIO in Panicale. This is a beautiful Podere with private pool and garden and lovely view of Panicale and the rolling countrysides, located at only a step from the main Plaza of my charming medieval hill town, Panicale, just south of Lake Trasimeno. The owners asked me to be their host and help them with our guests. I am pleased to welcome guests from every part of the world, to introduce them to Umbrian village, and to share our traditions and culture. Panicale makes a great home base to visit other nearby hill towns, as well as to enjoy 'la dolce vita' right at PODERE MOLINACCIO, with its lovely garden and location. The locals in Panicale welcome visitors with a warmth and openness that will make you want to stay forever. The hustle and bustle of the high-tourist hill towns you visit are left behind you at the end of the day, when you return to the peacefulness of Panicale.

The Owner purchased this villa in 2012

Panicale is a typical and very beautiful medieval Umbrian hilltop town. Time has absolutely stood still in this village. One can still see signs of a former lifestyle -- cannon turrets, alcoves near the two historic center entrances where night watchmen once stood, ancient cobblestone streets and antique, operable water fountains. Panicale boasts four wonderful restaurants, two cafes (cafe/bar/gelateria), and three small grocery stores (2 inside the walled village) selling everything from fresh produce, wonderful salami & meats, cheeses and wine to toiletries and common household supplies. There is a terrific butcher who will gladly make fresh sausages for you while you wait. Just outside the walls, there is a bakery, where fresh bread, pastries, and a variety of delicious pizza/focaccia await you (open at 6am, for early risers!). The town barber will give you a hair cut and a shave, or if you want to catch up with the latest gossip, drop by the hairdresser. The famous 'little' theater, hosts well-publicized cultural events. however, the most fun can be found in the main plaza on weekend nights (summers) when free, live entertainment performs as you sip local wine or a cappuccino. Panicale also has a tourist information office, a real estate agency, pottery shop, linens and gift store, drug store, stationary/internet point selling foreign newspapers and magazines, post office, and a bank/ATM. Minutes away by car is a full service spa, where you can have a manicure, beauty treatment or massage. Panicale is home to 50 full-time residents. During the summer months this number grows to about 800. The town is within short driving distance to Perugia, Assisi (home of Saint Francis), Cortona, Todi, Deruta (reknown pottery/ceramics), Spello, and Siena. The nearby wine towns of Orvieto (stunning basilica!), Montepulciano

PODERE MOLINACCIO is a WONDERFUL PODERE with a beautiful private pool and garden. The quaint medieval hill town of Panicale makes a great 'home base' to explore both Umbria and eastern Tuscany. The village offers restaurants, shops, small grocery stores, butcher shop, bakery, bank with ATM, and many other amenities. Stroll with the locals through the cobblestone streets. Sip an espresso or a glass of great Umbrian wine outside one of the cafes. Take a step back in time, enjoy the amazing sunrises and sunsets, and simply RELAX! The locals are friendly and open. Moreover, a number of Panicalesi speak English, so language is never a barrier here! Inside the medieval walls, you will find very few cars, as the village is closed to vehicular traffic. Parking is always available outside the two main entrances (portals) to the walled town. Panicale is very centrally located: 90 minutes south by train is Rome, with Orvieto and other hill towns along the way. Just over 100 minutes north by train is Florence. By car, you can easily drive to Cortona, Perugia, Assisi, Deruta, Montefalco, and Montepulciano as well as the impressive nearby Casteglione del Lago fortress and Lake Trasimeno, with its unique islands and many sporting, dining and cultural activities. One visit to Panicale and you will want to return, as many guests do, year after year.

THANK YOU FOR A SPLENDID HOLIDAY!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in Podere Molinaccio for a day over a week in the end of June 2014 with our family consisting of three generations - all together we were 11 persons: 6 adults, three teenagers and two small children aged 3 and 5.

From the very beginning we were very happy with all contact we had with the manager Katia before the holiday: she answered to all our questions very quickly and gave us a lot of valuable information about what the village and the surrounding area has to offer. When we arrived to Panicale from Rome with the cars, just a call and Katia came in 5 minutes to guide us to the house - where some sallad and snacks were waiting for us, how lovely is that! Katia´s mother also sent us some home made lasagne one evening and this was so nice and soooo good - the big dish was eaten to last bite in a blink!

Before our holiday we had read that the owner lives on the bottom floor of the house and we wondered how this would affect our stay. It turned out that Chiara was one of the absolute highlights of the holiday. Such a genuinly good hearted, sincere, modest and charming person who did everything she could to make our holiday so marvelous. Yet still if guests wish to have their own privacy, she really respects this. We really liked her company and sat with her around the dining table in the garden when ever we had the chance. Chiara also showed us an excellent winery near by and organised a private tasting there (Il Poggio - we really do recommend this!). Se also showed us amazing places that we couldn´t have ever eaven dreamed to experience, although this was not the first holiday in Italy or Umbria for us. Lorenzo was away working in another city for most of the week, so we didn´t get to know him this well, but he was very kind and nice also.
The house itself is very well restored, super clean well equipped - each room has its own bathroom, air conditioning, very handy mosquito curtains in the window, comfortable beds, linen etc.. Towels, hairdryers, soaps and detergents also includid, there really isn´t anything missing. The pictures in the web sites don´t really show all the beauty or give a good picture of the beautiful house and its picturesque surroundings. One simple improvement we would suggest would be to put the plan drawing of the house to the web sites.

Few words about Panicale - what a charming medieval jewel this small village is! And the restaurants, they are super, excellent food with outstanding views and atmosphere.

WONDERFUL PLACE FOR A VACATION GET-A-WAY!

  • 5 of 5
What a pleasant find this was up in the wooded Umbrian hillsides near Panicale! The grounds are well laid-out with several covered patios and easy access to scenic relaxation spots with commanding views - as well as a nicely maintained pool. The landscaping and plantings are masterfully laid out and maintained - colorful annual flowers in full bloom, herbs for the kitchen, and fragrant roses. The house boasts a fully-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, comfortable rooms and a wonderful high standard restoration, a well-stocked library full of maps, guide tours and information of places to visit. The local manager Katia was very efficient, taking time to answer all of our questions, making dining suggestions, and providing dinner reservations at an hour's notice. The management responds quickly and courteously to email, phone calls, and texts. There are several very good restaurants within 5-10 minutes and the location is perfect for day trips to the major Umbrian and Tuscan towns, cities, and wineries. This really was a great bargain (price, location, privacy) in comparison to a hotel. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning.

WHAT'S A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY!!!

What's a wonderful holiday!!!
  • 5 of 5
My friends and I recently stayed in Panicale for 10 days. There were 8 of us and we rented Podere Molinoccio. It is a beautifully restored 4 bedroom/4 bath farmhouse. It was very spacious and met our every need.

Katia was our contact for the property. She was attentive to all our questions from the very first inquiry. She is a native of Panicale and is very knowledgeable about the area. She is a vivacious, warm and caring person who is excellent at her job. She gave us all kinds of information about Panicale and the many hill towns within driving distance.

Panicale was a 5 minute drive from the farmhouse. It is a friendly place with a grocery store, butcher shop, a few restaurants, miscellaneous other stores and lots of charm. We felt at home there after our first visit.

There are many places to visit from the area that are within an hour’s drive. Lake Trasimeno is also close by.

Panicale is a very desirable area to visit on vacation or for an extended stay. You have the homey feeling of a small town but can also visit other areas. There is beautiful scenery in every direction. I only wish we had more time to explore the area. There’s always next year!

PANICALE: A PEACEFUL OASIS YOU WANT TO RETURN TO...

  • 5 of 5
This being my 7th pleasure trip to Italy, and being a thorough internet researcher, I knew that this was the right property for us to rent during our stay in Umbria...but I was totally surprised by what it gave back to us!!!
The property is a dream...a tastefully and lovingly restored farmhouse, with postcard views from every window, the BEST bed and linens in all of Italy, and the songs of birds to greet you in the morning. But I was not expecting the incredible people (the owners and Katia, our agent) who greeted us like lost lost relatives coming back home. Within hours, we were sitting in Katia's home, enjoying a home cooked lunch around a family table, and exchanging thoughts and experiences that would be the base for a blooming friendship. And the owners of the property, Lorenzo and Chiara, were simply incredible!!! From waiting personally for us with an outdoor table with a brunch made up by a selection of local produce, olive oil and wine, to becoming our willing guides and source of local information! By the 2nd day of our stay, we had exchanged e-mail addresses and cell phones and the promise of their future visit to our home in Miami Beach the following year!!!
All this in addition to the bounties of Umbria: the beauty of Tuscany without the exorbitant prices and the multitude of tourists. Panicale is a town that allows you to feel that you have travelled back in time to a better era, where life revolves around the main piazza and its café, where all the locals meet for coffee and its corresponding social gathering, where everybody knows everybody else, and you are introduced immediately to become one of them.
I AM SURE that we will return to this incredible part of the world in the near future!!!

TEN DAYS IN UMBRIA

  • 5 of 5
We are a group of 4 couples in our mid-sixties from the US. We were looking for a 4 bedroom/4 bath rental in Umbria close to a small town and within driving distance to many of the hill towns. We spent 9 nights at Podere Molinaccio. The farmhouse was beautifully restored, very spacious and met our every need. It was even nicer than it appeared in the pictures. Panicale was a 5 minute drive. The town had everything we needed - a well stocked grocery, a butcher shop, a few restaurants and lots of charm. We enjoyed shopping, eating and spending time in the piazza. We felt we knew everyone after a few visits.
Katia was our contact for the property. From the 1st inquiry, she was very attentive to all our questions. She's a Panicale native and was full of all kinds of knowledge and information. It was wonderful to meet her after many months of corresponding by email. She is a vivacious, caring person who is excellent at her job. She was willing to help with any request but also respected our privacy.
Chiara, the owner, was there when we arrived and welcomed us with a snack. She offered us espresso each day as we left for our excursions.
We enjoyed the farmer's market in nearby Tavernelle. Everything looked so appetizing and we bought lots of fresh fruit. We spent most days visiting area hill towns. Each place offered a unique experience. Gubbio and Orvieto were our favorites. We also enjoyed Bevagna, Assisi and Castiglione del Lago.
One of the highlights of our stay was when Nonna Rosanna came to the farmhouse to cook dinner for us. She showed up with her 3 foot rolling pin and made homemade pasta among many other delicious dishes. It was an experience not to be missed.
We also had dinner at Katia's home and drinks and snacks with Chiara and Lorenzo at the villa. Thank you for sharing your homes with us.
Everything about this vacation was fabulous. Our rental was perfect, the food was delicious and the scenery was so memorable. We were well taken care of by Katia and Chiara and thank them for their hospitality and friendship. Grazie Mille!

STUNNING VIEWS! WONDERFUL STAY

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at this home for 2 weeks in May 2014. We were 5 adults. We enjoyed the beautiful setting of this home. The views and scenery were truly marvelous. We spent a lot of time around the pool just enjoying the beauty of the area. The landscaping and the flowers were really nice too. The house was perfectly equipped and was spacious and comfortable. Lots of books and DVDs to browse through. The beds were FANTASTIC, so comfortables. We never found beds so comfortable as here at Podere Molinaccio. It was about 5 minute drive to Panicale, which was perfect for us as we wanted a place to relax in and enjoy nature. Even though we felt secluded, it was very easy to visit the hill towns in the area. There are many great cities just within an hour or so away. We took day trips to visit Cortona, Asissi, Montepulciano, Gubbio, and Pienza. We would head out in the morning, walk around the village, have lunch and be back with plenty of time to relax and swim! Our favorite times were early evening by the pool with a drink! We also had a local Nonna come and cook for us and we enjoyed those meals very much! They were very tasty and the views and convenience could not be beat. With all our family, having a relaxing and delicious meal at home beats packing up and heading to a restaurant any day! The owners were very nice and easy to work with. The house was easy to find. We took the train to Florence and had an easy drive from there. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature on their vacation. Would be great for a family (we went with my In-laws) or a group of friends. Have a great trip! And Katia the Manager: Absolutely FANTASTIC! She is a special women and We consider her our best italian friend....She is absolutely friendly, efficent, prompt to all our questions and to all We needed....You are in good hand...come and visit this special and wonderful Villa in Panicale!
