I'm Katia and I'm the hostess of PODERE MOLINACCIO in Panicale. This is a beautiful Podere with private pool and garden and lovely view of Panicale and the rolling countrysides, located at only a step from the main Plaza of my charming medieval hill town, Panicale, just south of Lake Trasimeno. The owners asked me to be their host and help them with our guests. I am pleased to welcome guests from every part of the world, to introduce them to Umbrian village, and to share our traditions and culture. Panicale makes a great home base to visit other nearby hill towns, as well as to enjoy 'la dolce vita' right at PODERE MOLINACCIO, with its lovely garden and location. The locals in Panicale welcome visitors with a warmth and openness that will make you want to stay forever. The hustle and bustle of the high-tourist hill towns you visit are left behind you at the end of the day, when you return to the peacefulness of Panicale.
Panicale is a typical and very beautiful medieval Umbrian hilltop town. Time has absolutely stood still in this village. One can still see signs of a former lifestyle -- cannon turrets, alcoves near the two historic center entrances where night watchmen once stood, ancient cobblestone streets and antique, operable water fountains. Panicale boasts four wonderful restaurants, two cafes (cafe/bar/gelateria), and three small grocery stores (2 inside the walled village) selling everything from fresh produce, wonderful salami & meats, cheeses and wine to toiletries and common household supplies. There is a terrific butcher who will gladly make fresh sausages for you while you wait. Just outside the walls, there is a bakery, where fresh bread, pastries, and a variety of delicious pizza/focaccia await you (open at 6am, for early risers!). The town barber will give you a hair cut and a shave, or if you want to catch up with the latest gossip, drop by the hairdresser. The famous 'little' theater, hosts well-publicized cultural events. however, the most fun can be found in the main plaza on weekend nights (summers) when free, live entertainment performs as you sip local wine or a cappuccino. Panicale also has a tourist information office, a real estate agency, pottery shop, linens and gift store, drug store, stationary/internet point selling foreign newspapers and magazines, post office, and a bank/ATM. Minutes away by car is a full service spa, where you can have a manicure, beauty treatment or massage. Panicale is home to 50 full-time residents. During the summer months this number grows to about 800. The town is within short driving distance to Perugia, Assisi (home of Saint Francis), Cortona, Todi, Deruta (reknown pottery/ceramics), Spello, and Siena. The nearby wine towns of Orvieto (stunning basilica!), Montepulciano
PODERE MOLINACCIO is a WONDERFUL PODERE with a beautiful private pool and garden. The quaint medieval hill town of Panicale makes a great 'home base' to explore both Umbria and eastern Tuscany. The village offers restaurants, shops, small grocery stores, butcher shop, bakery, bank with ATM, and many other amenities. Stroll with the locals through the cobblestone streets. Sip an espresso or a glass of great Umbrian wine outside one of the cafes. Take a step back in time, enjoy the amazing sunrises and sunsets, and simply RELAX! The locals are friendly and open. Moreover, a number of Panicalesi speak English, so language is never a barrier here! Inside the medieval walls, you will find very few cars, as the village is closed to vehicular traffic. Parking is always available outside the two main entrances (portals) to the walled town. Panicale is very centrally located: 90 minutes south by train is Rome, with Orvieto and other hill towns along the way. Just over 100 minutes north by train is Florence. By car, you can easily drive to Cortona, Perugia, Assisi, Deruta, Montefalco, and Montepulciano as well as the impressive nearby Casteglione del Lago fortress and Lake Trasimeno, with its unique islands and many sporting, dining and cultural activities. One visit to Panicale and you will want to return, as many guests do, year after year.
