Located near the heart of the Dartmouth College campus, 26 Occom Ridge is Hanover's premier residential rental property. With nine bedrooms and over four acres of land overlooking Occom Pond, as well as 290 feet of frontage on the Connecticut River, this estate is situated on the largest privately owned parcel of land in the prestigious area surrounding Occom Pond.
A private driveway and a beautifully landscaped approach befits this impressive property with a local view to Dartmouth’s Baker Tower. Surrounding the residence is a rolling lawn with fieldstone walkways and stone walls, a privately sited and heated, in-ground pool and a gazebo. In the winter, enjoy the use of a beautifully maintained private skating rink on the property (see pictures!).
26 Occom Ridge presents an opportunity to enjoy an historic and well preserved home built on a grand scale. Expanded and slightly reconfigured over the years, this regal manor-like residence offers nine bedrooms, nine fireplaces and extensive communal space on the ground floor.
The large living room with a fireplace, the dining room, also with fireplace, the library/billiard room and the converted and enclosed four-season porch/mudroom with a large stone hearth fireplace are the main gathering areas on the first floor. An expansive covered porch faces Occom Pond and provides a commanding perch from which to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings year-round. An entry foyer with 14 foot ceilings, a mud room, an eat-in kitchen, breakfast room and a large study with a half bath complete the main level.
The second floor offers a large tv room/playroom, five bedrooms, one with attached sitting room and pull out couch, and three full bathrooms. The third floor offers four additional bedrooms and a full bath.
One of our parents resides in this house when not in Florida. We live next door and have been living in the neighborhood since 2000. Both of us went to Dartmouth and graduated in 1991 and returned to the Upper Valley in 1993.
Judy Oberting purchased this house in 2012

Or stay at home and enjoy the swimming pool on a beautiful sunny afternoon and have cocktails on the porch in the evening with a view to Baker Tower. It is hard to beat. Hang out in the living room, play pool in the billiard room, relax by the pool, read a book on the large outdoor porch, have alone time in one of the many comfortable bedrooms, and in the winter enjoy the meticulously maintained 63' by 95' skating rink!
We stayed here with 14 adults and 6 young children during a recent reunion weekend and had a great time. It's a wonderful and interesting house that makes for a fun adventure. The kids loved running around and playing soccer in the outdoor hockey rink (grass-filled since we visited during October) and the adults enjoyed the billiard room and the dining room that had a table that was amazingly large enough to fit all of us. (Note that it's helpful to stay here with a group of friends you know well, as each bathroom needed to be shared by several people). All around, a great spot, close to campus, to stay during reunions.
Not only sleeps 20 but the house is so large and well-stocked that there are plenty of places for everyone to hangout. location couldn't be better. i would recommend without hesitation.
About 20 of us just returned from the most amazing weekend in Hanover, made even more amazing by this perfect house that we were so fortunate to stay in. Hanging out on the porch day and night overlooking Occum Pond was a highlight of the weekend and the fact that we could all stay so comfortably in the house and all be together like old times was sheer perfection. The house is so convenient to campus and town which adds to why it could not be a more perfect rental. The owners were incredibly welcoming and easy to work with. The house would also be a great place for a couple of families if you wanted to head up to Hanover for a vacation or visit. There are so many bedrooms that would work for couples or kids or whatever you need. I can't recommend this house more and hope I get a chance to go back to Hanover and stay there in the future.
With a view of Occum Pond on one side and the Connecticut River on the other, set up high on Occum Ridge, you could not ask for a more tranquil, private, beautiful, and yet central location for a Hanover reunion or rendez-vous of old friends. A big group of lacrosse alums gathered here over an alumni weekend, and enjoyed runs through the golf course, walking to the athletic facilities, and ambling downtown. It was great to be able to park our cars and leave them behind for the weekend! The house itself is spacious yet cozy and charming. The owners are incredibly helpful and accommodating. Having stayed here once, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in the Hanover area -- I have been spoiled!
There is simply not enough room to write about what an AMAZING place this is to stay.
The house itself is gorgeous and spotlessly clean. The location is to die for: between Occum Pond and the CT River; next to the golf course, a lacrosse-ball-throw from campus and within easy walking distance of downtown Hanover. The vibe is all classic, comfortable New England with a huge dose of good times and splash of luxury. And the space is, well, HUGE. Seriously. My friends (all Dartmouth alums) and I got lost in there. In a hysterical and wonderful way. And I highly recommend that you do too - this place is just plain epic. I will be back! :)
A stunning home with amazing views that easily accomodated our group of 21 women. The home and grounds are impeccably maintained and the owners who live next door could not have been nicer. The accomodations are also within walking distance to Hanover. A great value and a wonderful experience!
