This beautiful attached single family home is new on the market. Completely renovated and ready for families or couples to share. The kitchen has new stainless steel appliances and a large sitting area with a fold out queen size bed. there is a back deck and backyard area. Also, full bath on the first floor. Dining room has table and chairs for 8 people and living room is on the other side of the first floor. The entire house has bamboo floors. On the second floor are two large bedrooms. One has a queen size bed and the other a king size and a futon for one additional person. Full bath with a jet tub and laundry facility on the second floor. The third floor is a bedroom suite with queen size bed and beautiful views. There is a crib, a toddler bed, and a pack and play for families with small children. Best of all, there is parking for 2-4 cars (depending on size and parking skills).
My family lived blocks from the property when I was born. I grew up in the Boston area and went to schools here. This property has been in my family for over 100 years and recently I completely renovated the house. When we are not traveling we live here and love the home and the location.
John Gallagher purchased this house in 2007
The entire Boston area has so much to offer, including sightseeing, sports, beaches, boating, museums, restaurants, bars and fabulous universities. Our home is in the middle of it all. Everything is new: appliances, windows, floors, baths, tankless hot water heater. We have it all!
We designed this house with the idea of a large family or several couples being able to stay here comfortably. Everyone has their space. Once you open the front door (after parking your car in the driveway!) you immediately feel at home. Visting children at school? Coming for a big game? Have a family wedding? Need a backyard space? Dishes, pots and pans and lovely appliances are all here for your use too. But the location is the best part of this lovely home. Be one of the first to list with us.
We were a party of 8 (2 families with 2 kids each), and this was a perfect rental home for our 4 adults, 3 toddlers and 1 baby. The full-sized crib on the 3rd floor was wonderful to have (vs. a pack-n-play that hotels normally provide) and the futon in the master bedroom helped provide ample sleeping room for all the kids.
The home has been renovated and is in good shape for a historic home in the Cambridge area. The kitchen was well equipped with all amenities one could needs, and there were plenty of linens and soaps, tissues, etc. provided to the guests. All of the bathrooms had been completely renovated with nice tile and fixtures. Most importantly, the place was very neat and clean! It is a townhome, so there are a lot of stairs, which was fine for our families but may not suit all travelers' needs.
The location in Cambridge was ideal. It is a 15 minute brisk walk to the Kendall/MIT "T" stop, off the red line but from there, you can easily get to the Prudential Center (for the duck tour), Downtown Crossing/Haymarket (for Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market/North End "Little Italy"), Arlington (Boston Gardens), or the Airport. The "T" runs frequently and is easy to navigate (buy a "CharlieCard" ahead of time). Our group likes to do a lot of walking and didn't mind walking the 15 min to the "T" stop each morning and back home each night. We even walked down to Harvard Square and the Harvard campus to take a look around (~25 min walk each direction).
There is a convenience store across the street that provides basic groceries, and more importantly a Dunkin Donuts 3 blocks away! 1 block away is a little community playground that is great for kids. A very good nearby restaurant is Cambridge Brewing. Additional restaurants are within walking distance (e.g. Legal Sea Foods and Chipolte at the Kendall/MIT station).
I corresponded with the owner a few times by email and once over the phone, and he was very nice and eager to please.
I would highly recommend this place. This was our first time renting a vacation home from an owner directly, and I was quite nervous, but everything couldn't have worked out better. It was a perfect long weekend -- even the weather was beautiful (sunny, high 70s) which was so unusual for Boston spring!
We rented this home for my son's graduation at MIT, and had six of us sleeping here. I can say that I almost never write reviews because I do so much business online I would be writing reviews all day, but I had to write one here.
This home was perfect for our needs and the owner went out of his way to make sure he took care of us. We wanted to host a little cookout for my son and his girlfriends family, but the house didn't list list a grill. I asked and viola, John went out and bought a grill. That is service. The first floor was great for this event because there is a dining room and two other seating areas, so there was plenty of room to spread out.
The of street parking is a great plus and the location is almost impossible to beat. Other than the hotels, it would be hard to find a location that is closer.
We have rented a couple of places over the years and are usually happy, but this home really was perfect!
My Irish family of six persons stayed in this house for five nights. I would give this house 10 out of 10 as it was spotlessly clean and had everything you could think of that you would need. It was a very safe area and within walking distance to the T train. One day we even walked into the city ourselves. I could not find a fault to write about this beautiful home and would highly recommend anyone to stay there.
Seven out-of-town family members gathered for a weekend of visiting Boston-based family and this house was perfect! I recommend it. Very clean, updated and comfortable bedrooms, living spaces, kitchen, and bathrooms. Excellent location and easy parking. Thanks!
Very nice house very well equipped with nice interior. Can sleep 8 people (not 9 as in description). Very well equipped kitchen with lots of ware. It is about 15 minutes walk to MIT and 25 minutes walk to Harvard.
Check with owner the check-out time as there was cleaning lady at 2:00PM coming - that we did not know in advance.
Clean, bright, well stocked and everything works. Excellent restaurants close by and easy walk to MIT or Harvard. Highly recommended.
We are located in the heart of Cambridge, right across the bridge from Boston. We are surrounded by mit, harvard, mass general, kendall square. Many restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. 15 minute walk to the mta red line. 15 minute drive to logan airport.
