Perfect little hideaway
We stayed in this little bungalow for approximately a week on our trip to the big island. It was the perfect home base for our adventurous trip. Kapaau feels like a secluded retreat, but is within an hour or so drive from the faster paced Kona. While the bungalow is on a property with two other houses, the other houses are far enough away and through a jungle-like atmosphere. The bungalow has a very private feel and we only saw the other houses when we ventured around the property to pick fresh fruit from the numerous fruit trees.
We were able to travel an hour or so to the gorgeous hikes in Waipi'o Valley, as well as a shorter distance to sparkling white sand beaches, including Hapuna, Beach 69, and Spencer beach. Even closer is the breathtaking Pololu Valley/Lookout/Beach, which was less than 10 minutes away. We especially enjoyed venturing there in the mornings and evenings to take in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
When we rented the property, I was skeptical about the outside shower. However, after getting over my initial fear, it was the perfect complement to my tropical experience. The shower is secluded enough to feel comfortable, yet open enough to enjoy the atmosphere. The bali-stone shower flooring also felt great after a long day of hiking. In addition, the house is equipped with wifi and cable for rainy days of relaxation. Although, don’t be fooled. Even if it may be raining at the house, it most likely is sunny at the nearby beaches.
As a perfect conclusion to our trip, on the drive to the airport, we were treated to an impressive full rainbow. I would recommend this house to anyone seeking a quiet retreat or looking for a home base for an adventure.
