ROMANTIC AND PEACEFUL ONE BEDROOM BUNGALOW WITH OCEANVIEWS

Kapaau Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

1BR/1BA w/ Outdoor Shower, Covered Veranda and Fresh Fruit Yours for the Picking

Big Island Vacation Houses presents: The Bungalow. This lush, tropical oasis is located in beautiful North Kohala and offers an immersive Hawaiian experience removed from the tourist traps and bustle of other locales. In fact, it may have you believing you're a local.

A large variety of lush flora envelopes and divides the property, including hibiscus, birds of paradise, orchids, ferns, palms, an awesome banyan tree and fruit trees offering the freshest mangoes, papayas, bananas, and avocados that are yours for the picking. Savor oceanic, pastoral or jungle views as tropical birds sing, geckos chatter, the island breezes caress the trees, and the resonance of the tide rhythmically whispering in the distance.

The Bungalow is a one bedroom house complete with a bali-stone outdoor shower, king bed, deck, covered veranda, kitchen, living room with a queen pull out sofa and satellite tv and the use of beach chairs and a boogie board.

You are a short drive from the historic town of Kapaau, home of the original King Kamehameha I Statue. The charming downtown area has great art galleries and several wonderful restaurant as well as Kamehameha Park which has great tennis courts, a public swimming pool, a skate park and wonderful children playground. There is even a small public golf course you can play on for a nominal fee. A short drive in the other direction leads you Keokea Beach Park, which is a great spot for a picnic. Continue on and you come to the end of the road at the stunning Pololu Valley Overlook where you can enjoy a spectacular view hike down to the valley.

A few minutes past Kapaau is the colorful town of Hawi, known as North Kohala’s biggest little town. It is home to a weekly farmer’s market that we think is one of the best on the island. Be sure to sample local varieties of popular fruits, like apple bananas, strawberry papaya and in season, super sweet white pineapple! Hawi is also the bicycle turnaround for the annual Ironman World Championship held every October and has a great selection of unique shops and tasty restaurants. The world famous Bamboo Restaurant is consistently voted one of the best restaurants on the island with a great lineup of live music featuring award winning Hawaiian musicians. There are also wonderful alternative healing practices located here, with massage therapists , acupuncture specialists, naturopaths, herbalists, and a variety of yoga styles represented.

North Kohala is perfectly located to take advantage of many fun activities including scenic coastal rides on horseback or ATVs, the Kohala Zipline, Kayaking the Kohala Ditch and hiking trails galore. Head up the mountain road to Waimea and experience one of the best scenic drives in the US, with incredible views of Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea and its observatories and a birds eye view of South Kohala with all its resorts and white sand beaches. The beaches in Kohala are the best on the island, including world famous Hapuna beach (Conde Nast rated it one of the top 10 beaches in the world), scenic Mauna Kea Beach, child friendly Spencer Beach Park and local favorite Beach 69.

Head down the coast towards South Kohala and you’ll discover many historical sites and parks along the coastline to enjoy. Lapakahi State Park is the site of an ancient fishing village and a great spot for snorkeling and whale watching. The harbor town of Kawaihae is home to a variety of tour companies offering scuba, snorkeling and whale watching tours. There’s also a nice selection of shops and galleries along with great dinning and music at the Blue Dolphin Restaurant or popular Café Pesto.

This private Eden reveals three other private houses spread out over 2 acres and presents a variety of accommodations, as each house offers it's own distinctive floor plan. The entire property sleeps 18-20. Please view our other rental listings at VRBO/215142, VRBO/215410 and VRBO/152916. The listing for the whole property is VRBO/481173

Comfortable retreat

  • 5 of 5
I planned to take my sisters to experience the Big Island and all of the amazing variety the island has to offer and was delighted to discover this gem! While arranging a time to spend time with friends who live in Kohala, the Bungalow was suggested for our stay and I am glad it was!

Below are each of our reviews:

My experience staying at the Bungalow with my sisters was perfect. I am so grateful that it was available for us to enjoy two nights (which wasn't enough because we enjoyed it so much). I liked how close we got to be to our friends' place with their amazing pineapple farm, and the distance to Pololu Valley Overlook was perfect for the view, hike, and perspective.

The place was aesthetically pleasing, the space was comfortable and well taken care of (great deign, newly built, and clean). We loved that we were able to do laundry before hitting the road to our next destination too! I highly recommend this little place to stay and encourage anyone who wants a little place for a retreat or solitude to check into the little sweet Bungalow.

I would have to agree wholeheartedly to the original description we read about it: " Big Island Vacation Houses presents: The Bungalow. This lush, tropical oasis is located in beautiful North Kohala and offers an immersive Hawaiian experience removed from the tourist traps and bustle of other locales. In fact, it may have you believing you're a local."

one sister said: Loved the bungalow! So quaint with tons of personality! Favorite piece by far for me was the outside stone shower The details of the bungalow really made it a special place. Also really loved the hutch in the kitchen that housed silverwear, pots and pans, and the like. I could go on and on...The geckos were so fun to find all over the place as well!

other sister said: I can't wait to come back and stay for longer! This bungalow was perfect for our Hawaii get away. From the comfortable bed to the full kitchen, we had everything we could want from a place and more!
The location was perfectly situated in the hills, tucked away from everything. The wifi was fast and when we had a question about the laundry, we were kindly helped.
I couldn't be happier about having the privilege to stay at this lovely bungalow!

Honeymooners

  • 5 of 5
My wife and stayed here for 10 days while on our honeymoon and will never forget the amazing time we had. Just to echo the previous reviews, the information given is all 100% accurate. The location is very private and incredibly relaxing. After months of wedding planning the Bungalow gave us a great place for some secluded time to ourselves but also allowed us to enjoy some sight seeing, great beaches, and shopping. Some days were spent driving the island while others were simply enjoying the privacy, something that is tough to find in a resort environment. This place was great. The locals were so welcoming and such great people that leaving was a little difficult. Thankfully we returned with memories of our honeymoon that we will never forget. We look forward to returning in the future!

Out of the beaten path getaway

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at this bungalow for 5 nights and we loved everything about it. We wanted to stay in a quiet place, away from the hotel and touristy scene and this rental provided exactly that. Since it is located in Kapaau, you have to have a car and be OK with spending some time driving around to explore the island and go to nice, sandy beaches.
With that in mind, there are tons of amazing places near by. The Pololu Valley is the closest attraction to the rental that I can think of and the Mauna Kae beach is about 30 min drive and both well worth it !!
The pictures provided are pretty accurate describing the unit and all around, it is well equipped with towels and bathroom necessities, kitchen utensils, etc.
I have to say, although the Bali-style shower was one of the reasons why I leaned toward this rental, I wouldn't have minded an indoors shower and bathroom area fully attached to the main house. After seeing the biggest spiders around the shower area we wouldn't take showers after sunset and I wasn't crazy about going to the bathroom in the middle of the night either. This WASN'T A DEAL BREAKER at all and like I said, you are told this a tropical area with critters around (those spiders weren't poisonous) and information is fully disclosed form the get go!
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay in this bungalow and most of all, it was the perfect place to relax. I would recommend this place to couples who are looking for a nice, quite place opposite to the hotel experience you can get anywhere but shouldn't while on vacation in the Big Island!

Hawaiian Paradise

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in early December. The bungalow is absolutely beautiful and secluded. It is a new construction with a unique layout in that the living room/kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom/shower all have doors that open up to a central open private patio that overlooks the ocean. The outdoor stone shower had ample hot water and views of the ocean! The toilet and sink are indoors. At night, we relaxed on the lanai listening to the waves and looking up at millions of stars. The bungalow is on a property with 2 other rentals, so you are not totally isolated. There is a great smoothie stand/breakfast/lunch spot a short walk away. This bungalow is a great spot to stay if you are looking for a secluded tropical paradise as opposed to a typical hotel experience. A beautiful hour drive south are the beaches of South Kohala and Kona. Our favorite beach was Kua Bay. The snorkeling equipment, cooler, and beach chairs provided were awesome! Just a 5 min drive away is Pololu Valley lookout. We got a quick response when inquiring about the property. Mike greeted us upon arrival, gave us some great local tips, and even brought us some fruit from the property! We did not want to leave at the end of our stay. We would recommend this bungalow to anyone!

Perfect little hideaway

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this little bungalow for approximately a week on our trip to the big island. It was the perfect home base for our adventurous trip. Kapaau feels like a secluded retreat, but is within an hour or so drive from the faster paced Kona. While the bungalow is on a property with two other houses, the other houses are far enough away and through a jungle-like atmosphere. The bungalow has a very private feel and we only saw the other houses when we ventured around the property to pick fresh fruit from the numerous fruit trees.

We were able to travel an hour or so to the gorgeous hikes in Waipi'o Valley, as well as a shorter distance to sparkling white sand beaches, including Hapuna, Beach 69, and Spencer beach. Even closer is the breathtaking Pololu Valley/Lookout/Beach, which was less than 10 minutes away. We especially enjoyed venturing there in the mornings and evenings to take in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

When we rented the property, I was skeptical about the outside shower. However, after getting over my initial fear, it was the perfect complement to my tropical experience. The shower is secluded enough to feel comfortable, yet open enough to enjoy the atmosphere. The bali-stone shower flooring also felt great after a long day of hiking. In addition, the house is equipped with wifi and cable for rainy days of relaxation. Although, don’t be fooled. Even if it may be raining at the house, it most likely is sunny at the nearby beaches.

As a perfect conclusion to our trip, on the drive to the airport, we were treated to an impressive full rainbow. I would recommend this house to anyone seeking a quiet retreat or looking for a home base for an adventure.
