Seattle Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom/1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

Come and stay in one of Seattle's most unique private water front properties. Rumor has it that our cottage was built in 1935 along what is now the I-5 freeway corridor and was barged to this location when the freeway was built. Beautifully remodeled in 2012 this beach cottage is on the edge of Puget Sound yet minutes from downtown. We are excited to share this gem with you.....

Your viewing adventure from the cottage, depending on season, will include boat traffic such as Washington State ferries crossing the sound, sail boats, cruise ships bound for Alaska (May-Sept.), Argosy Dinner boat, Victoria clipper, the occasional submarine, navel ships, cargo ships, tugs w/barges heading to Alaska. Sometimes(winter & summer) during the year you will wake up to marine layer of fog on the water and mountains peaking out, with boat and ship horns a blowing! Very beautiful! Wildlife viewing includes watching bald/golden eagles, herons, orcas, seals. You are steps away from the beach and can walk out at certain tide times. During spring/summer months there are extreme low tides where you can walk out 1/2 mile on sand, search for starfish, clams, geoducks, crabs and other marine delights. Beach glass is our favorite thing to look for !! End the day with fabulous sunsets over the Olympic Mountains.

Cottage is right next to Discovery Park, Seattle largest in-city park where you can hike/walk a variety of trails, see the lighthouse and historic Fort Lawton. Close to the 'Locks' also known as the Hiram Chittendom ship canal where all boat traffic must travel between Puget Sound and Lake Union/Lake Washington. We are located below Magnolia Boulevard which is known for its beautiful walking and biking thruway and view of Mt. Rainier.

You can enjoy the cottage or be in the heart of Seattle in just 10-15 minutes to enjoy all it's cultural activities such as museums, art galleries, theaters and restaurants. Close by is the Space Needle, Olympic Sculpture Park, New Chihuly Glass art gallery, Pike Place market (where they throw the fish), baseball and football stadiums, New ferris wheel - the list goes on..... Mt. Rainier is a day driving distance if you want to get a closer look at it.

As much as Seattle has to offer...we bet the hardest part of your day will be leaving the cottage. Reaching the cottage requires navigating down a wide, well maintained path of 4 stairways. It is well worth the trip !! FYI....your bags will have to be carried down and up....we are also a shoes off place.

THIS COTTAGE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN; 2 ADULTS; NO SMOKING; NO PARTYING; NO PETS; MIMUMUM age 25 yr.

Voted 2013 REX Award/ for Remodeling EXcellence...we are very proud!

About Joan Christoffels

We are a couple that put our blood, sweat and labor into redoing this treat of a beach cottage. One is a designer who put special thought and effort into all the unique pieces and comfort you will enjoy. We live on site and are available to you for all your questions.

We would also entertain requests for property swapping as we love to travel.

Joan Christoffels purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Joan Christoffels chose Seattle

This special property consists of an upper house we live in, which our motto is 'A vacation home is 'Redundant'. The lower beach cottage called 'Redundant Beach' is separate and not viewable from the top house. We are now pleased to be able to share with others since it has been updated. To that degree we tore it down to the studs and got our favorite contractor to finish the job. Among this was to bring in most of the building materials by tug boat & barge - this included all appliances, sheet rock, plywood, counter tops, tools, windows, sliders, decking, flooring, and more. We called our contractor 'Sherpa Dave' by the end and he won the REX award 2013 for it.....come see we what have created for your pleasure and enjoyment !

What makes this cottage unique

Once you are there you will not want to leave, so we offer a service of food shopping for you, before you arrive, for a small fee to have the kitchen stocked and ready for your arrival. About a mile away is a gourmet food store for pre-cooked meals, if you don't want to cook. There will be basic condiments left for use(olive oil/mayo/mustard/ketchup/salt/pepper/salad dressings/seasonings) We give you a Starbucks coffee packet for each morning, additional $1.00 each

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was the best place to stay for my Birthday weekend, although "Redundant Beach" was not listed on the vrbo site yet....I was able to stay thru a friend of a friend. What a delight to cozy down with a fire in the stove and watch the storm surf pound the bulkhead with wave after wave. So much fun even in the winter, later we were able to get down on the beach when the tide went out a bit. The stairs down are fine and a good work out on the way back up. Would stay again and loved watching the boats pass by. Getting to know the hosts a plus and they were very helpful starting the fire for me....

Ranger Woman

This cottage is an incredible place to stay. One day our plans did not work out, but we were glad, because that gave us extra time to enjoy Redundant Beach House. The owners are very helpful without being intrusive in any way. In fact we would have liked more time with them.
The view is the best--great way to wake up each morning. We hope to return.

Beautiful!!!!

  • 5 of 5
Where do I start? Everything about the cottage is great!! The owners have done a terrific job with the renovation and the small details throughout really tie it all together. Such a wonderful view of the Sound. My wife and I loved sitting out on the deck listening to the waves and watching the boat traffic. Now we just have to try and come back sometime so that we can just stay at the cottage and not do all the tourist type things around Seattle. The cottage is so wonderful that we actually changed some of our plans just to stay at the cottage more.

The perfect beach retreat

  • 5 of 5
We had an absolutely fabulous two weeks at this amazing cottage right on the beach. You will have perfect privacy with just seabirds and the occasional sea lion able to spy on you. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need during your stay - we really enjoyed buying fresh mussels and clams and cooking up a storm. Whilst laying in bed you have the perfect view of Olympic Peninsular and passing boat traffic - if you are awake early you will spy a cruise ship going North to Alaska. We had a wonderful walk along the beach at low tide to the lighthouse, about 1.5 miles North - loads of sea birds and rock pools to explore. All in all a perfect combination of privacy and luxury - the price you pay is 151 fairly steep steps to get to the cottage so pack lightly!

Great get away!

  • 5 of 5
The view is awesome! Quiet and secluded...a great get away. It was lovely to sit on the deck and listen to the water, drink a glass of wine and just talk. If you do want to adventure out you are close enough to downtown, the waterfront, or most tourist attractions. The house is spotless and cozy and the owners are very nice and accommodating. This is a great place for 2 people! The stairs to the house can get a little tough, so make sure you can manage a steep incline. Beautiful house and location! If you like hiking there are a lot of trails around the area.

A little piece of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5
Joan and Heather - thank you so much for opening your Redundant Beach cottage to others so that we too can enjoy a little piece of heaven on earth! From the moment we walked in the door I felt I had found my new home away from home that we plan to come back to time and time again - who would have thought we'd find a such a place of pure beauty, relaxation and rejuvenation 30 minutes from our own house! The attention to detail, beautiful furnishings/décor/colors, and amazing energy that both of you and the cottage exude are a true gift for those of us in search of a little rest, relaxation and desire to soak in the beauty of the Puget Sound! We loved the scrapbook showing the tear down and rebuild of the cottage - it's is a special insider look that allows visitors to get a true sense of the hard work and love that went into the remodel and the output is absolutely magnificent - you have a true gift and we're grateful you decided to share it with those of us lucky to have found you! I can't wait to come back alone (mom's new mental spa hideaway :) ) and to share with my kids, friends, my husband (we had a great valentines day there!) and everyone else who asks me about my favorite places to vacation...Redundant Beach is beyond a doubt in my top 5 places ever and I've been very fortunate to have traveled to many a place around the world! Thank you again for being wonderful hosts and for creating such a place of beauty where one can truly relax and soak up the natural outdoor beauty that surrounds the cottage! We'll be back again soon!

Romantic Staycation

  • 5 of 5
What a perfect way to begin the New Year – our stay here at the beautiful Redundant Beach Cottage was exactly the Romantic Staycation we were looking for.

Joan and Heather are wonderful hosts and are absolutely in tune with every need you might have during your stay. We were particularly impressed with their pride of ownership – from street appeal to waterfront, everything is very thoughtfully maintained.

The Cottage is very well cared for – like new in fact – and we didn’t mind the steps at all as the privacy and breathtaking views were just what we were after. We embraced our surroundings and time together (even more) since there was no Internet, which actually allowed us to “turn off” work for a few days!

This truly is a “home away from home” beach cottage perfect for anyone wanting to getaway and enjoys Pacific Northwest scenery. We are so thankful Joan and Heather share this gem and we look forward to hibernating here again in the future:)
