Seattle Cottage Rental Photos and Description
1 Bedroom/1 Bath (Sleeps 2)
Come and stay in one of Seattle's most unique private water front properties. Rumor has it that our cottage was built in 1935 along what is now the I-5 freeway corridor and was barged to this location when the freeway was built. Beautifully remodeled in 2012 this beach cottage is on the edge of Puget Sound yet minutes from downtown. We are excited to share this gem with you.....
Your viewing adventure from the cottage, depending on season, will include boat traffic such as Washington State ferries crossing the sound, sail boats, cruise ships bound for Alaska (May-Sept.), Argosy Dinner boat, Victoria clipper, the occasional submarine, navel ships, cargo ships, tugs w/barges heading to Alaska. Sometimes(winter & summer) during the year you will wake up to marine layer of fog on the water and mountains peaking out, with boat and ship horns a blowing! Very beautiful! Wildlife viewing includes watching bald/golden eagles, herons, orcas, seals. You are steps away from the beach and can walk out at certain tide times. During spring/summer months there are extreme low tides where you can walk out 1/2 mile on sand, search for starfish, clams, geoducks, crabs and other marine delights. Beach glass is our favorite thing to look for !! End the day with fabulous sunsets over the Olympic Mountains.
Cottage is right next to Discovery Park, Seattle largest in-city park where you can hike/walk a variety of trails, see the lighthouse and historic Fort Lawton. Close to the 'Locks' also known as the Hiram Chittendom ship canal where all boat traffic must travel between Puget Sound and Lake Union/Lake Washington. We are located below Magnolia Boulevard which is known for its beautiful walking and biking thruway and view of Mt. Rainier.
You can enjoy the cottage or be in the heart of Seattle in just 10-15 minutes to enjoy all it's cultural activities such as museums, art galleries, theaters and restaurants. Close by is the Space Needle, Olympic Sculpture Park, New Chihuly Glass art gallery, Pike Place market (where they throw the fish), baseball and football stadiums, New ferris wheel - the list goes on..... Mt. Rainier is a day driving distance if you want to get a closer look at it.
As much as Seattle has to offer...we bet the hardest part of your day will be leaving the cottage. Reaching the cottage requires navigating down a wide, well maintained path of 4 stairways. It is well worth the trip !! FYI....your bags will have to be carried down and up....we are also a shoes off place.

Guestbook comments from the owner
This was the best place to stay for my Birthday weekend, although "Redundant Beach" was not listed on the vrbo site yet....I was able to stay thru a friend of a friend. What a delight to cozy down with a fire in the stove and watch the storm surf pound the bulkhead with wave after wave. So much fun even in the winter, later we were able to get down on the beach when the tide went out a bit. The stairs down are fine and a good work out on the way back up. Would stay again and loved watching the boats pass by. Getting to know the hosts a plus and they were very helpful starting the fire for me....
We are a couple that put our blood, sweat and labor into redoing this treat of a beach cottage. One is a designer who put special thought and effort into all the unique pieces and comfort you will enjoy. We live on site and are available to you for all your questions.
We would also entertain requests for property swapping as we love to travel.
This special property consists of an upper house we live in, which our motto is 'A vacation home is 'Redundant'. The lower beach cottage called 'Redundant Beach' is separate and not viewable from the top house. We are now pleased to be able to share with others since it has been updated. To that degree we tore it down to the studs and got our favorite contractor to finish the job. Among this was to bring in most of the building materials by tug boat & barge - this included all appliances, sheet rock, plywood, counter tops, tools, windows, sliders, decking, flooring, and more. We called our contractor 'Sherpa Dave' by the end and he won the REX award 2013 for it.....come see we what have created for your pleasure and enjoyment !
Once you are there you will not want to leave, so we offer a service of food shopping for you, before you arrive, for a small fee to have the kitchen stocked and ready for your arrival. About a mile away is a gourmet food store for pre-cooked meals, if you don't want to cook. There will be basic condiments left for use(olive oil/mayo/mustard/ketchup/salt/pepper/salad dressings/seasonings) We give you a Starbucks coffee packet for each morning, additional $1.00 each
