Located on the hills of the first countryside of Romagna, at 1 km from the medieval village of Dozza and 25 km from Bologna, Villa Calanco Country House is an elegant eighteenth-century country house set in a parkland with ancient trees and a farm of more than 3 hectares. The structure has just been completely renovated by the owners who have personally taken care of the details with particular care and with full respect of its history.The apartments has been carefully restored and furnished, which keep intact the charm of the rural tradition of Romagna, like the ancient terracotta, wood, raftered ceiling , antique doors and furniture, giving life to a sober and elegant style that blends the modern comforts.The comfortable and privileged geographical position allows to reach cities rich in history and art as Bologna ( 25 km), Ravenna (52 km), Ferrara (74 km), Imola ( 7 km), Faenza ( 22 km), Brisighella ( 32km) and Dozza (1 km), one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

The area offers a variety of courses related to the food and wine tradition typical of Romagna. Typical products are piadina, salami and the 'minestre', those are the first courses of handmade pasta ranging from noodles to macaroni comb (garganelli), ravioli with ricotta, tortellini. Among the main courses meat on the grill, as mutton and sausage. Everything always accompanied by the famous local wines.

COOKING CLASSES

Teresa and Antonio are glad to welcome you in their kitchen of the villa, where they organize lessons of traditional romagnola cookery with final lunch or dinner together all the family. Lasting about 4 hours and minimum 2 people.

About Franco Giaconia

Franco was born in Tuscany and has known Teresa on a trip to Africa. Both are travel enthusiasts.

In 1999, Franco, Teresa, and the kids Antonio and Anna from Tuscany are transfered in Dozza.

Franco immediately was fascinated by Villa Calanco, dwelling which since 1700 has been owned by the family of Teresa

As a restorer has personally coordinated and executed many of the restoration works that have lasted over 10 years.

Teresa, graduate in history, works at the State Archives of Imola.

Antonio study architecture at the University of Bologna, venue of Cesena and Anna study at high school in Imola.

Urlaub zwischen grünen Hügeln

Wir haben eine gute Woche in der Villa Calanco im Apartment Quintino verbracht. Das sehr große Grundstück mit teilweise altem Baumbestand und dem reizenden Pool, den wir fast immer für uns allein hatten, lädt zum Verweilen und Erholen ein. Nachts haben wir blinkende Leuchtkäfer gesehen, die Nachtigall hat gesungen und das Käuzchen gerufen. Das Apartment ist sehr nett eingerichtet, und es ist sehr praktisch, dass Geschirrspüler und sogar eine Waschmaschine mit dabei sind. Schön ist bei diesem Apartment auch, dass durch das zweite Schlafzimmer genug Ausweichraum gegeben war (wir waren zu zweit, haben aber gern ein bisschen mehr Platz). Und schön war, dass das Apartment ebenerdig liegt und man direkt in den Garten tritt und dort auch auf dem zum Apartment gehörenden Freisitz Kaffee trinken kann. - Ins kunsthistorisch herausragende Ravenna fährt man eine Dreiviertelstunde, was wir zwei Mal gemacht haben, denn all die Kunstschätze sind für einen Tag zu viel. Unbedingt anschauen! Fazit: Wir haben uns bei Franco und seiner Familie sehr wohl gefühlt und können die Unterkunft vorbehaltlos empfehlen!

Simply Wonderful!

Our group of 4 stayed in apartment Quintino at the Villa Calanco Country House and what a perfect location it has. It was ideal for our purpose of exploring the area. Not far from Dozza, away from the bustle of Imola town but close enough to walk/cycle. The listing description and photos provide an indication of what to expect. Expectations were exceeded on every level. The owners entire family ensures a relaxing and welcoming environment. There are several restaurants to choose from in Dozza. The five we tried were very very good. We also enjoyed a meal prepared by the lady of the house and her son - SUPERB!

A great week in Villa Calanco, Dozza

We have spent a week at Villa Calanco.
A nice and quiet place close to Bologna and the highway.
A beautiful garden surrounds the Villa. We stayed in apartment Quintino.
The whole place is recently restored and it looks beautiful.

Several cities are close: Imola, Ferrara, Modena, Venice, Florence, San Marino, Ravenna and of course Dozza with some nice restaurants.

I can write a whole review but please look at the other reviews everybody is very satisfied and I can only agree to all those positive reviews.

Dozza is situated on the crest of a hill gently down toward the Via Emilia between Bologna and Imola, Dozza looks like a touch of color, in an atmosphere outside of time. A medieval village which ancient structure is still well preserved. Dozza is famous for “The Biennal Painted Wall” during which the village becomes alive with artists coming from all over the world who paint directly on the walls of the houses. So the village, with its typical 'to zone' structure surrounded by city walls becomes a beautiful open air art gallery always visible. We also suggest to visit the wonderful and mighty fortress with the adjoining Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, where it is possible to taste and buy the regional wines.

Dozza, is part of the club 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy', an association for promoting the great heritage of history, arts, culture, environment and traditions present in the small Italian towns which are ,by the most part, excluded from the flows of tourists.
