Friendly dogs considered.
The owner and her family enjoy Maine and all it has to offer. This is a child friendly and dog friendly house! We so love watching the sailboats sail by and our resident Bald Eagle soar through the skies. Belfast is a wonderful community and we hope you will come and visit!
We love eating at the picnic table inches from the water,we love finding seaglass right on our beach, we love walking along the beach to Belfast City Park to enjoy an ice cream cone and a game of tennis, or a cool refreshing swim in the public outdoor pool. We love settling down for a nice long read of one of the books from our extensive collection.. We love it all, and we know you will too!
We stayed here in August 2014 and loved it. It's a great location, just outside the lovely town of Belfast right on the Bay. It's very private, but not isolated and we walked into town a couple of times. There are great restaurants and shops in Belfast. We ate and shopped at Chase's Daily and it was delicious. There's a lovely Co-op nearby that has a great selection of healthy foods.
Our two active boys loved playing on the beach for hours as we watched them from an Adironack chair from the house. We saw lots of beautiful sail boats and wildlife, including a seal that came right near the shore. There's a great park just a few minute's walk down the beach which wins the Most Scenic Playground award. Also has a nice pool.
We explored all the charming local towns -- Camden, Rockport were our two favorites. We went hiking in the State Park near Camden and fishing at nearby Swan Lake. We also made a day trip to Acadia which was incredible. Definitely worth the hour trip each way.
The house is comfortable, open, and well stocked for cooking all that delicious Maine produce. You could quite happily spend the whole vacation just hanging at the house.
Cat is a wonderful host and makes sure you have everything you need. We hope to be back again soon!
We (2 couples) spent two weeks in this lovery oceanfront cottage. The house was very comfortable with upstairs/downstairs spaces for each couple's privacy. The house was very clean and tidy. The exposed beams in the home give it that "old Maine cottage" feel with the luxury of having all modern conveniences. The owner is just delightful and provides everything you could ever need in a kitchen (even a Food Processor and Kitchen Aid Mixer!) plus full cabinets of dishes and serving pieces. Very comfortable bedding with extra blankets for cool evenings. The decks are complete with seating and a large gas grill. The view from the house is fabulous having large windows in each room - watching the boat traffic in and out of Belfast Harbor, beautiful sun rises and moon glow over the water. Just a few steps down to the low-tide beach for hunting sea glass. The house has bookcases filled with wonderful reading for all interests, games for children and even a drawer filled with art supplies. Only 1 mile to downtown Belfast for shopping, art galleries and lots of dining options. We have been traveling to Maine for over 20 years and in Belfast for the last 8. We have already booked this house for next year!
We've just returned home from this lovely house and miss it already. The views over Belfast Bay towards Acadia National Park are beautiful. The house is very private and the garden runs down to a rocky beach which feels private, too - we barely saw another soul there. Kayaking from the beach is easy - if you don't have your own, a local firm will deliver them to the house.
Cat, the owner, is very kind and thoughtful. She left a variety of tasty treats for us on arrival. She has decorated the house beautifully with all sorts of interesting antiques, artwork and books. It's really well equipped, too, with big bath tubs and huge power showers. There are lots of games (we taught our kids Backgammon), and an electronic entertainment system for the evenings .
There are so many things to do in the area. You can walk into Belfast, where there are lots of eateries and some excellent food stores. Excellent waterfront lobster pound. Lincolnville also has nice waterfront lobster places, and Camden has great hiking, restaurants and gift shops. Acadia National Park has awesome hiking and whale watching.
Stay here if you get the chance.
We've just returned home from our stay in this wonderful place- and we already look forward to returning next year.
It's privately located but everything you need is very close by; it's comfortable with friendly furniture, inviting spaces, beautiful views. The yard is as pictured and if you sit on the deck long enough you may see as we did the eagle hunting for her dinner.
It has everything you think A Maine experience should be and when you add to that a helpful ( but only if you need her) owner , this truly does deserve the 5 stars.
(Also, as a word to those looking at this site-'be cautious about renting anyplace that doesn't have a current review. We did that last year and were sorry. This review is written only one day after returning home.)
The cottage is roomy, tastefully and artistically decorated and has been recently updated. The showers are huge! The home takes advantage of the beautiful view that is better than pictured and is very convenient to town and the park. The yard is large enough for plenty of play and lounging. Cat, the owner, was helpful and thoughtful throughout our stay.
The listing description was very accurate regarding the location, appearance and amenities. The view could not be beat! It was in a quiet, very private but not isolated location, perfect for families or people wanting to get away from it all but still have the amenities of a town close by. It is a very short walk up the beach to the town park and pool. It was very clean and well-maintained. The owner Caitlin is an expert on the area, especially regarding children's activities. Anything she didn't know she quickly found out. She maintained great communication with us and quickly remedied any issues. Belfast is a growing community with lots to see and do and some great restaurants and shops, and is the midpoint between the southern coast of Maine and the northern (down East) coast. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative.
