HISTORIC CALIFORNIA BARN HOUSE BY CREEK

Redding Barn Rental Photos and Description

Private mountain meadow hideaway, hardwood interiors, open floor plan

Stay in a part of the history of the old west. The oldest barn in beautiful Shasta County has been renovated into a cozy mountain-meadow retreat. Up to four people and their well-behaved pets may visit from two nights to two weeks.

Just 17 miles from Redding, California, this is the ideal place to truly 'get away from it all.' Set in a peaceful mountain meadow by a year-round boulder-lined stream on a paved mountain road that winds through woodland virtually untouched by the developer's hand, the Barn House is truly a place like no other. Visit our website at www.stonewall-ranch-barn-house.com to learn more about the area.

We pride ourselves on making our guests feel like family. We provide a customized complementary welcome basket with your choice of wine, beers/ales, or sparkling cider, fresh fruit, baked goods--even snacks for the family dog.

Well-behaved pets are welcome at just $10 per pet per stay (refundable damage deposit of $150 also required for guests visiting with pets).

While we always wish our guests could stay longer, we know real life awaits. But our open check-out policy means you can spend as much time as you like here at the ranch on your final day, and depart at your leisure. (Subject to availability; please inquire when booking.)

Beautifully furnished with heirlooms, antiques and works by local artists and craftspeople, the Barn House features Tennessee red-oak hardwood floors and knotty pine paneling throughout on walls and cathedral ceilings. Features: An open floor-plan; natural-stone fireplace built with stones from the ranch; well-equipped kitchen with full-size appliances; family-size dining table and dining alcove; massive decks that run the length of the building overlook a meadow and the boulder-lined creek that runs along the length of the property.

The Barn House is a romantic hideaway for couples. Let the sounds of the gentle brook just outside the door lull you to sleep. The bedroom features an antique four-poster double bed and heirloom chest and boudoir lamps, lace curtains and a stunning collection of art photography. Awaken to birds welcoming a new day in song. It's truly the stuff dreams are made of.

The great room with its cathedral ceilings and knotty pine interior is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Antique chairs, deep old-fashioned rockers, and a warm natural-stone fireplace with pellet insert create an inviting home. Relax with a good book by the fire, listen to music and enjoy a glass of wine. It truly doesn't get any more relaxing than this. The futon couch converts to a full-size bed.

From the massive decks, kick back and enjoy being surrounded by nature. Stonewall Ranch is home to a variety of wildlife--the California black bear, wild turkey, the rare ringtail cat, the endangered martin/fisher, and herds of deer freely roam the mountain. Our guests are more likely to see deer pass by on their way to the creek, than cars on the quiet country lane that leads to the property.

A paradise for hikers and mountain bicyclists, the property abuts the backside of Whiskeytown NRA, a veritable wilderness. Backpacking, mountain biking, hiking, nature walks and quiet meditation by the year-round stream are all part of the quiet life here at Stonewall Ranch.

Ample parking is available for large vehicles, including RVs (no hookups).

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the Barn House at $10 per dog per visit. To ensure that pets continue to be welcomed, please make sure that they do not get onto the furniture, and do not leave them alone while you are away from the Barn House. We have a pet-friendly cupboard filled with all the little extras that our pet-owning friends might need--everything from old afghans and blankets to make a cozy bed for Fido, to towels to use after a visit to the nearby creek.

The Barn House at Stonewall Ranch is just 20 minutes from Redding, but it feels like a world away. But a word of caution: There are no gas stations, supermarkets or convenience stores once you leave Redding. There is a small general store in Igo that is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for essentials, as well as beer and cigarettes. There are no hard-liquor sales in Igo.

The Barn House at Stonewall Ranch is a quiet, restful vacation home for people who truly want to get away from it all and enjoy time in the woods. There is no TV. The Barn House does have Excede broadband satellite internet connectivity, and internet-based telephone service.

Open flames are not allowed anywhere on the property. Flameless candles and lanterns are available for your use.

Smoking is not permitted inside the Barn House. Smoking is allowed on the exterior decks away from open windows and doors. E-cigarettes and vapes may be used inside the Barn House, so long as they do not emit a strong odor.

About Nisa Donnelly

It took Denise a lot of years to find the property that ultimately became Stonewall Ranch, and more years to renovate the oldest barn in Shasta County into the home she occupied for several years.

But as circumstances changed, she moved to another house on the property, making the Barn House available as a rental property. Today, she and her wife Nisa Donnelly live just up the road on another part of the ranch with their three dogs, four cats, and three parrots.

Denise is a life-long resident of Shasta County and an avid golfer. Nisa is a semi-retired editor and writer, who dabbles in art as a bead designer.

The Barn House is LGBT-owned and LGBT-friendly, with special discounts available to our Rainbow Family.

Nisa Donnelly purchased this barn in 1987

Why Nisa Donnelly chose Redding

As developers increasingly began to run roughshod over Shasta County, Denise started searching for a place that remained relatively untouched. She discovered Zogg Mine Road and Stonewall Ranch. The peaceful woodland with its ancient trees, boulder-lined creek, and pastoral landscape is a slice of serenity. The nearby hamlet of Igo is a bit of Americana that is rapidly disappearing, with its cozy general store and the Post Office where everyone goes to pick up their mail, since there is no home mail delivery. At Stonewall Ranch, we and our neighbors live a quiet life far removed from the hustle and din of city life. We invite you to join us.

What makes this barn unique

Step onto the back deck and breathe deeply. Look up into the night and see stars spilling across the sky like a broken bag of rhinestones. Listen to the quiet. Watch a doe and her fawn move slowly across the meadow to the creek. Such is the stuff of magic.

Inside, feel the warmth of wood surround you, a cozy fire in the natural-stone fireplace, shadows chasing across cathedral ceilings, stained glass glowing warm and inviting.

Great Vacation. Perfect Location

We stayed for a week! We loved everything about the property. Secluded, yet close to Redding. Great place to stay, roomy and comfortable. The owners were a pleasure to deal with. Loved the deck complete with BBQ. Pet friendly and our Chocolate lab loved the proximity to the creek. Can't wait until next year! Thank you Denise.

Retired & On the Go

Retired & On the Go

We had a wonderful three night stay at the Barn House. Denise was awesome to work with from the get-go, and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories with her. She was attentive without being intrusive. The Barn House is located off the beaten path. It is wonderfully secluded and peaceful. We enjoyed the quiet and serenity of sitting on the deck with a glass of wine or a cold beer, the sounds of the creek and the birds in the background. The picnic area beside the creek was a special treat after a day of hiking at Whiskeytown Lake. Thank you, Denise, for your hospitality! We enjoyed learning the story of this historic property.

Perfect for our Anniversary

  • 5 of 5
Can't thank Nisa and Denise for an amazing stay. They were so accommodating from the moment we got there...literally. They met us to show us around and orient us to the house when we arrived rather late. Not only that, they had a basket of goods for our dog! We wanted a place where we could get away, reflect on the first year of marriage and enjoy the outdoors. If you like the sound of running water (i.e. a creek within walking distance), then you NEED to check out the ranch. We even took a drive up to Whiskeytown Lake about a 15-20 minute beautiful drive. So much cool history. The place is clean, cozy, and extremely spacious. Again, we can't thank Denise and Nisa enough for their hospitality. Can't wait to come back in the summer. Much love!

Quiet & Cozy & Off the Beaten Path

Quiet & Cozy & Off the Beaten Path

My wife and I needed a "getaway" from the stress of business, kids, and too much going on. The Barn House was perfect for our stay away from it all. We saw deer almost everyday, a hare raced our car down the road one late afternoon, and we cruised the back roads for miles just soaking in the scenery.
The absence of cell phone signal took a couple of days of adjustment, but was such a blessing! (We went into town everyday anyway so we just made our calls then.)
Nisa & Denise were so friendly and helpful we felt like we had known them for years after just a few days.
Overall I'd say, "Book it now and enjoy!

The Barn House is wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
This converted barn is very lovely and quaint, located in a beautiful wooded wilderness only a short drive from Redding. There is a huge fireplace, open beam ceilings and antiques. The kitchen is very usable with great views of wildlife out the window. The dogs enjoyed the stream in front of the house. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. We had a wonderful time hiking in nearby Whiskeytown Lake in T shirts and then the next day had a wild time in a blizzard at the Lassen National Park. We would definitely recommend this romantic cabin.
