About Les Sproessig

Hello, my name is Les and I am the owner of CABIN IN THE PINES. This was my home for many years and I loved the peace and quiet here so much that I decided to keep the house and share it with everyone else interested in getting away from it all. I am back working in the city now, but I still enjoy coming Up North to my Gladwin cabin and relaxing.

Les Sproessig purchased this chalet in 2004

Why Les Sproessig chose Gladwin

When I lived here, I enjoyed the private, peaceful, seclusion of this property and cabin, also the abundant wildlife viewed from it. Work brought me back to the city but I refuse to let go of my wilderness; CABIN IN THE PINES. I decided that I would like to share this peaceful setting with other people in hopes that they would get the same enjoyment and relaxation away from the hustle bustle of every day life.

What makes this chalet unique

The secluded and private location of this home, not a neighbor's home in sight makes it a great get away from the busy city life! Deer, Geese, Squirrels, Turkey and Ruffed Grouse will be your neighbors now.

640 ft off the paved road and hidden among the pines, but close to many towns and recreational activities.

The Tittabawasee River, with multiple boat launches to access different sections of the river, are all minutes away.

The Wixom Lake section is 20 mi. of boating.

Stop along the river for lunch at Juicy Bones Bar and Grill or gas, pizza and ice cream at other businesses on the river.

Park at Pontoon Alley on the river and enjoy the shallow sandy bottom with many other sun seekers.

Don't forget the great fishing on the river, accessible by shore or dock.

Pontoon and fishing boat rentals are available at several businesses along the river.

The Rifle, Cedar, Muskegon and Tittabawassee Rivers all offer canoe, kayak, and tubing rentals, all close enough for a day trip.

Downtown Gladwin offers the Riverwalk Trail a 1.3 mi. Asphalt trail along the Cedar River for walking, jogging, skating, biking and cross country skiing. Riverwalk Place, conveniently located on the trail is a shopping and dining experience. Stop for a coffee, ice cream, lunch dinner or even enjoy their spa!

Gladwin City Park offers a daily pass to use their beach and tennis courts.

Gladwin and the surrounding area is home to many Amish Community's, along the roads you will find Amish Family's selling their wares.

Travel the back roads and find Amish hardware's, sawmills and other Amish businesses. Looking for more excitement? The Soaring Eagle Casino, in Mt. Pleasant, Mi. is only a 40 mi. Ride. On your way back to the cabin stop at Jays Sporting Goods in Clare, Mi. Where you will find huge selection of hunting, camping and sporting goods. With all the daily activities in the area to keep you busy, you will truly enjoy a relaxing evening at CABIN IN THE PINES, when you return.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful cabin. 4-6 inches of fresh snow helped with the winter ambiance. 1st winter bonfire in the snow, awesome, thanks Les.

Great place and beautiful property. Loved watching the deer feeding and drinking at dusk

Great romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Rented this cabin for Valentine's weekend 2015 getaway and absolutely loved it. It was a brutally cold weekend but we kept warm as toast by the easy to use pellet stove and furnace did it's job, too. Cabin is very clean and well maintained. Loved the decor of log furnishings, flat screened TV with DVD player, and well stocked kitchen so we could stay in and snuggle all weekend. The unique open spiral stairway to the loft we especially loved as well. Great to watch the sunrise over the pond out of the picture window in front sipping our morning coffee. Owner made sure we were plowed out and was very attentive that our stay perfect. Nice touch with the Valentine's candy and card you left us, Les. Thank you for everything.

Attention to Detail

  • 4 of 5

This is such a cozy little cabin and the owner has thought of every detail, from the well-stocked kitchen to the binder of restaurants and local sights. It was just what we wanted for our writers' retreat. We wrote at the table overlooking the icy pond and enjoyed the heat from the wood pellet stove. A tromp around the property to see the hunting blinds and the neighbors' horse barn provided a great break.

Cozy

I spend a few days with my friends in the cabin and we could really relax there. This cabin is so cozy.

We spend so much time with playing board games and just enjoying our time there with doing nothing.

It was great!

Guys mini-vacation

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough. Owner was accommodating. Cabin had everything you needed. The pictures really do it no justice, plenty of room for five guys. Everything in the cabin is clean and solid. Property is gorgeous. Pellet stove is very nice, tv works good, beds are comfy, refrigerator is cold, coffee maker works, just fantastic. Front porch and view from dining table are the two best spots on the property. We will rent again. Just a great set-up. Don't worry! Everything you need!
