About Bob Barclay

An Oregonian transplant to Washington DC, attended George Washington University, and enjoy travel.

Bob Barclay purchased this townhome in 2000

Why Bob Barclay chose Georgetown

The house is centrally located in Georgetown with off-street parking and walking distance to shopping, coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment, Universities, Hospitals, and Embassies.

What makes this townhome unique

This is a traditional historic carriage house converted to a 1 br home in the 1950's, and updated in 2011. It has a rustic feel with exposed rafters, red tile floor, red brick fireplace, and french doors opening to a private patio for dinner or sipping your favorite beverage when DC weather allows.

Perfect, cozy space while working in DC

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay while working in DC for a few weeks. The neighborhood is lovely, and the home completely comfy, with all the basics. Walking distance to everything you'd need in terms of restaurants, grocery, etc.

Great choice for a couple, or someone solo. We also had my 10 year old for part of our stay, who said, "That's the comfiest sleeper sofa ever."

The back patio space is very sweet and a lovely spot for grilling dinner, or having coffee when the weather is right.

The only negative is that the street is prime ambulance route, hospital a few blocks away. Sirens are regular, light sleepers may want earplugs. But the charm of the space easily outweighs this.

Truly perfect

We spent the month of July in the quaint, ideally located Carriage House. The owner, Bob, was attentive and always willing to accommodate....but quite frankly we were quite comfortable for our entire stay. Highly recommend.

a great vacation experience

  • 5 of 5
I spent a month (June 2014) at this wonderful Georgetown carriage house, and can't imagine how anything could have made it better. The owner, Bob, made sure everything was perfect and was so kind and gracious to meet every need and to answer any question. I can highly recommend this place for a great vacation.

We rented this unit to attend a college graduation and found it ideal. Off street parking was a plus and we were able to walk to campus and the many attractions of M Street/Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown. Add in a helpful owner and it all worked.

We love this place!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I booked a weekend getaway for ourselves and could not have been happier. Every review, every detail was correct. We did not want for anything during our stay. The added bonus of off-street parking was great! My husband and I strolled the neighborhood and visited many recommended restaurants via the owner. He, the owner, was gracious, hospitable and checked to make sure we had made it safely to his home. We will certainly return and agree that is was 5 stars! I would post more but I think I am running out of room!

Problems with internet/tv connections

  • 2 of 5
The positives about this property are that it is conveniently located, is charming, and has its own parking space. The rental agreement for the property is for a long term lease, not a vacation rental, and it had the name of a previous renter on it. The owner requires the renter to purchase damage protection insurance which is easy for him as he does not have to refund a damage deposit, but an additional expense for the renter. When I inquired about access to the property, the owner wanted to know my time of arrival and said someone would meet us at the property at that time. When we arrived at the stated time, no one was there. We phoned the owner who then told us how to enter the property. Once inside, there was no information on how to operate the electronic equipment or the fireplace, where to purchase groceries nearby, or how to check out. The shower/bath tub had no soap, and the soap for the bathroom sink was the heel of a well used bar. The house was clean, however, there were two dirty bowls in the kitchen cupboard. The coffee maker is a coffee press which requires water to be boiled in order to make coffee and was time consuming. The most negative aspect to this property is that it does not have its own internet and apparently cable or satellite connection for the television. We were unable to connect to the internet and after communicating with the owner and trying several different things, he suggested that we take our Ipads outside and go to a property next door and stand in front and try connecting there. This did work, but was only a temporary solution as the Ipads would remain connected to the internet only for as long as you used them. You would then have to go outside and reconnect. The owner did come to the property at our request and attempt to fix the problem with our Ipads. He said he was unable to do so successfully the first time as we were absent and he said he needed our passwords to open our Ipads and connect. We gave him the passwords and he did connect the last night of our stay. However, this too was only a temporary fix, and we were unable to connect to the internet the next morning. It was difficult to watch television as the programs were interrupted with "weak signal."

Owner's Response: I am surprised there were so many problems in your three day stay. Most people have no complications and many return to stay again.

I am surprised about the lease. I wish it would have been communicated to me when you received the lease. This review is the first time I'm hearing about it. I take tenants privacy seriously.

There are many monthly short-term renters so I have one lease to cover both monthly and daily stays. I will look at refining the lease but it will continue to cover both lengths of stay.

I realize the internet was spotty. After three attempts to fix the internet I communicated there was a router problem that has since been fixed.

The renters insurance is a VRBO/HomeAway option intended to be convenient for both parties and is stated in the quote before the lease is accepted.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I will implement some of your recommendations.
