We've been coming to the Outer Banks for at least 35 years now. I cannot imagine ever getting tired of it. Even just being here and only enjoying the beaches, taking in the sun, listening to the ocean waves is enough, in and of itself. And to think that it's free entertainment.
The Outer Banks has so much to offer. Avon, North Carolina is a very popular Outer Banks vacation destination. All of the neighboring villages on Hatteras Island are relatively close to each other which means that the island can offer many different businesses centered around tourism like restaurants, markets, tackle shops, hardware stores, beach supply stores, and much more.
Eat to your hearts content at any of the many, many restaurants all along the Outer Banks. There are at least 3 SEAFOOD BUFFETS for those wanting a great variety.
For the CRAB LOVER, catch your own, purchase them from any of the local vendors where you can even get them steamed and ready to eat, or check out the local restaurants.
For history buffs, and others, be sure to head up to Kitty Hawk to catch THE FIRST WRIGHT BROTHER'S MEMORIAL and the KITTY HAWK DUNES where you can even take hang-gliding lessons. As much as I disliked history, seeing this, in person, really brought it to life, and made it interesting.
For those looking for more ADVENTURE, try kite boarding, para sailing, kayaking, biking, hiking, and more. Very reasonably priced plane rides offer an opportunity to see the whole Outer Banks from the bird's eye view. This is one you don't want to miss.

Another neat shop to visit is THE CHRISTMAS SHOP in Manteo. It's become one of our annual visits.
For a unique experience, head to the quaint village of OKRACOKE (island) by FREE FERRY RIDE. Enjoy the scenery and wildlife, sometimes even dolphins as they follow along the ferry.
FISHING, FISHING, AND MORE FISHING!
Although there are always plenty of things to see and do in Avon, the traditional main attraction remains the surf fishing on our local beaches. Avon even has its own FISHING PIER, less than a 5 minute drive from Dancyn' By the Sea! Anglers can try for many different species throughout the year including red drum, striped bass (that's rockfish to the locals), bluefish, speckled trout, flounder, spanish mackerel, whiting (sea mullet), spot, croaker, black drum, various sharks and pompano just to name a few. It's hard to beat a relaxing day in the sun waiting for your rod to bend and then having the pleasure of eating fresh fish for dinner that you just caught earlier that day. Nearby Hatteras Inlet also offers a 'world class' destination for offshore trolling to catch tuna, marlin, wahoo and mahi (dolphin/dorado).
GOLF!
All throughout the Outer Banks, you'll find MINIATURE GOLF. A top vacation destination for beach goers, the Outer Banks also features some of the best year-round golfing in the eastern United States. Experienced and novice players will find these NINE CHAMPIANSHIP COURSES challenging and aesthically stunning. If you're planning a trip to the Outer Banks in the near future bring your clubs for a day of golfing you won't soon forget.
