CONTEMPORARY, FAMILY OWNED HOME IN COTSWOLDS NATURE RESERVE.

Lower Mill Estate House Rental Photos and Description

5 bedroom house ideal for family get-togethers

Songthrush is a spacious, family-owned contemporary home on the private Lower Mill Estate nature reserve in the Cotswolds Water Park. A fabulous property set in a quiet cul-de-sac location and overlooking a small reeded stream, you have miles of scenic walks from the front door and an abundance of local sporting, sightseeing and relaxing activities.

Families are particularly welcome, with plenty of activities for all ages. Children are well catered for with games & books, well behaved dogs are welcome.

The Estate is a 650 acre nature reserve, home to a myriad of wildlife. There is a fabulous (inclusive) Art Spa with indoor/outdoor pools, gym and treatment rooms, as well as playground areas, trampolines, a football area and table-tennis and tennis courts. A small shop and café is 150m walk

Lower Mill Estate comprises exclusive, private villages committed to ecological best practice, with wonderful facilities, a luxury family spa plus over 550 acres of pure Cotswold countryside to explore.

On site you will find the £6m Artspa, with a heated indoor and outdoor pool, plunge pool (very cold!), sauna and steam room. There is a well-equipped gym, and a tennis court that can be booked by the hour. Your rental includes access for all guests to the Artspa. The Artspa also offers a wide range of spa treatments using 100% natural plant-extract Pevonia products.

There is a small shop and cafe on site which opens in peak hours, offering a good range of grocery provisions, as well as great coffee & tea, patisserie and light lunches. They sell tasty home-made frozen meals and can also provide gourmet dining direct to your front door.

There are numerous lakeside walks you can take without leaving the Estate. For some years now the Estate has supported the re-introduction of beavers into the protection of the nature reserve. There are spots around Flagham Fen where you can hope to catch a glimpse of these shy creatures at dusk or dawn.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014 NEW

Rented for a week over Easter, house was superb to get all the family together. The welcome pack was great and the location perfect as my husband had a car driving experience booked at Castle comb nearby. Kids loved zorbing and slack lining at near by water park, while older members of the party enjoyed quiet walks and looking out for wild life. Everyone loved the out door pool and those that tried spa came back suitably relaxed.

EXCELLENT BASE FOR A RELAXING WEEKEND GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Accommodation was lovely and spacious for 9 of us. We had all our questions answered in the run up to our stay which was really helpful. The welcome booklet is very useful and we planned a few pub trips following recommendations in there. We ate at the Baker's Arms in Somerford Keynes on the Friday night (best to reserve as it got quite busy). Food was reasonable, but the convenience factor of being able to walk there and back from the accommodation was its main advantage. We took a trip to Cirencester on the Saturday which was lovely - full of quirkly little independent shops. We booked the private room at The Potting Shed in Crudwell for Sunday lunch. Excellent food, lovely setting, highly recommend! In addition to all of that, we had great fun at Lower Mill Estate itself, with breakfast on the patio, swimming in the outdoor pool, jogging round the lakes and a lot of chilling out in the house. We would love to come back again and will definitely be recommending a stay here to our friends (just not for the weekends we would like to stay!).

A BEAUTIFULLY SPACIOUS AND WELL EQUIPPED HOUSE.

  • 5 of 5
An idyllic setting for a family get-together and christening. A lot of thought and care has obviously been put into the house and its equipment. This peaceful estate provides ample opportunities and activities for all ages. We had a wonderful Bank Holiday week end We'll be back!!

Owner's Response: So pleased you had a great time at Songthrush. We use it ourselves and so probably has more of a feeling of home than some holiday rental properties. Look forward to welcoming you back. Liz & Jon

SONGTHRUSH - A BEAUTIFUL HOME FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
I researched many properties in the Cotswold Water Park vicinity before booking Songthrush. They all looked fantastic and I found it hard to choose. However, I now have no doubt whatsoever that I made the right choice. Songthrush is a beautiful house. It accommodated 9 of us comfortably. The kitchen is well-equipped. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable. The family games supplied provided hours and hours of fun. We enjoyed family walks, hearty pub meals and lots and lots of restful family time. The visiting swans kept us entertained – ignore them and they tap on the window! The Spa is lovely and, as it is just a stone’s throw away, it’s as if it is part of the house! Liz (the owner) was as friendly and helpful in person as she was via email. We loved it so much that we've already booked another break. Thank you, Liz.

Owner's Response: We're so pleased you all enjoyed yourselves at Songthrush. The swans missed you after you left - one settled down to wait just outside the back door - he was obviously hoping to see you again! The area does seem to have an amazingly relaxing effect on all that visit, and it is the perfect way to escape the pressures of every day.

We look forward to seeing you again later this year.

JUST THE JOB!

  • 5 of 5
Weren't sure where to go for a week long family reunion but this turned out the
ideal solution.
A mixture of 30 50 and 70 year olds (and a dog) all enjoyed the relaxed pace
of Songthrush and the Lower Mill Estate.... but with plenty of walking, cycling
and lake activities for those feeling more energetic.
Plenty of room for all 9 of us and everything you could need in the very comfortable accommodation.
Spa Pool next door an added bonus and encouraged an early swim.
Recommended!

GREAT FOR FAMILY PARTIES & FRIENDS

Great for Family Parties & Friends
  • 5 of 5
We are four middle age friends who stayed at "Songthrush" for four days at the end of March. We were looking for a peaceful, relaxing break

We were immediately impressed with the house which is spacious & modern in design. The fixtures & fittings are very good quality. The lounge has a log burning stove which was invaluable as the weather was very cold outside - the house on the other hand was cosy & welcoming. All we needed for home entertainment is there- TV, DVD player etc. Obviously take your own laptop/tablet. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can cater for your party with ease. All five bedrooms have comfortable beds with luxury bedding & the whole house is spotlessly clean. The booking procedure was made easy by the owner who replied to enquiries immediately & gives you clear instructions for getting there & getting in to the gated estate

Outside the Spa facilities are directly opposite the front door. To the rear is a large patio bordering the stream at the rear. A pair of swans came up from the stream on to the patio & introduced themselves several times on our visit. There is a profusion of wildlife on the estate & there are plenty of long walks around the many lakes in the Cotswold Water Park or you could use the one or more of the bikes parked on the patio. The owner will recommend pubs where you can eat within a reasonably short drive. Cirencester is not too far & is a charming & historic town with good pubs, restaurants & shops

We had a great four days & will no doubt return in the future. We would recommend this place to friends & family for a relaxing break out of season

Owner's Response: We're so pleased you had a good time despite the very cold weather Stephen. There is a lot to do in the area and the spa is always welcoming and warm. We swam outdoors today - 3deg C but a blue sky above us and we stayed warm in the water. Look forward to hearing from you again.

GREAT WEEKEND WITH FRIENDS.

  • 5 of 5
Great house, very well equipped and in an excellent location. Very near to the Spa which was very welcomed after a day of cycling and walking etc.
Lots to do nearby, so didn't use the car all weekend.
Many thanks.

Our nearest town is elegant, Roman Cirencester. A lively, attractive place full of smart shops, cafes & restaurants, a ‘real’ market, and a great arts centre. It has a Waitrose and Tesco – both of whom deliver to the Estate to take the ‘self’ out of catering. There are many beautiful Cotswold villages to explore, each with picturesque local pubs – many of which serve extremely good food.

There are comprehensive water-sports centres nearby, as well as jet skiing, cable skiing, water skiing, paint balling, sky diving, hot air ballooning, riding and golf.

For families, a short walk away is The Cotswolds Country Park & Beach, where you can hire cycles and boats, book sailing lessons, fish, cook a bbq and play on the sandy beach. Visit Butts Farm for baby animals and an award-winning farm shop & butcher; the Cotswold Farm Park, & Cotswold Wildlife Park.

There are also antiques in Tetbury, William Morris’s house at Kelmscott, Westonbirt Arbortorium and the Abbey at Tewkesbury.
