Welcome to StarFire Cabin, Welcome Home.
The Starfire Cabin not only a beautiful work of art but an obvious labor of love that inspires rest and relaxation. From the wide welcoming porch, with comfortable chairs that invites you to sink in while sipping your morning coffee, to the crackling fire in the wood stove, complete with a rocking chair to end your evening, there are so many thoughtful touches that make you feel pampered and cared for. The cabin itself is a visual feast from the real (but empty) bee hive hanging from a branch, a piece of driftwood shaped like a heart, river rock handles on some of the cabinets & closets, a gorgeous tree slab counter top made from a tree on their property, a beautiful rustic table built by the owners themselves and a multitude tiny details that leave you wondering what you will discover next.
The cabin is nestled amongst the trees and even comes with a covered barbeque area, complete with an antler chandelier. Between the kitchen, books, and games, all you need is some groceries to hide away from the world for a while. But the beauty of this particular gem is that you are only 15 minutes away from Lake Pend Oreille and an additional 15 minute drive will have you skiing on Schwietzer Mountain! There are plenty of places to eat in town...I would recommend McDuff's or Eichardt's for pub type food (don't forget to check out the upstairs of Eichardt's for a round of shuffleboard!) or Ivano's Restaurant serves the most delicious Linguine Lereici that is loaded with prawns, bay scallops and capers.
This is a place that I would come back to, time and time again, and I think you will feel the same.
The perfect get away... peaceful, quiet, a place to relax and leave the busy-ness of life behind. The charming log cabin is a simple elegant work of art. The hosts are delightful and helpful and respectful of your privacy. There are many opportunities for outdoor fun and downtown Sandpoint is only 20 minutes away.
In September of 2014, our family was privileged to stay at the beautiful Starfire Cabin. The cozy, handcrafted log cabin is nestled in the woods next to stately Douglas Firs. Whitetail deer visited daily and more were sighted along the walking paths traversing the property. Our hosts were kind and gracious - bringing us delicious fresh produce from their gardens, lovely flowers on the table, and helpful literature highlighting the wide variety of activities in nearby Sandpoint. We all agreed that the absence of TV and phone allowed us one of the most relaxed and restful weeks of our lives. We loved their book selection, artwork, photographs by their son, and overall attention to detail. We had everything we needed and more. We would love to stay there again! Most highly recommended.
1. The warm, cozy feeling of this finely crafted cabin
2. The attention to detail will have you exploring every nook and cranny
3. This retreat space allows you to relax and forget your day-to-day worries
4. The beauty of the tranquil woods
5. A sampling of fresh veggies and/or fruits from their incredible garden, if you come at the right time
6. More than basic kitchen essentials are provided, from herbs to well stocked-condiments in the fridge
7. A welcome break from the internet and TV, even mobiles if you like
8. The comfy reading loft with many NW-themed books and games to choose from
9. Waking and watching the deer browse right out your bedroom window or while enjoying a cup of morning coffee/tea on the back porch
10. Many activities await: hiking, kayaking or boating, watching the sunset, and sitting/singing around the camp fire, all at your doorstep
Starfire Cabin is a wonderful retreat in the forest. Beyond the beautiful craftsmanship, artistry and comfort of the cabin itself, the location is perfect. Close enough to Sandpoint and even closer to the lake it is easy to access the many activities in the area. But the location also allows you to unplug for a few days of peace and relaxation without distraction. The cabin is surrounded by forest and it is not unusual to see deer. It's just possible to glimpse the hosts' house through the branches. It's a peaceful feeling to be able to sit on the deck of the cabin in the morning sun and be temporarily disconnected from the outside world. The darkness and silence at night feels like a gift. You will see more stars than you thought possible. George and Kristina are wonderful hosts who let you have all the privacy you want but will graciously consent to visit with you around a campfire in the evening. They have many experiences to share and conversation with them makes for a very pleasant evening. Wandering through Kristina's lush vegetable, fruit and flower garden is a voyage of discovery, with surprises around every corner. She provided us with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, corn and beets, and invited us to help ourselves to the blueberries. We stayed with our daughter in this beautiful and cozy cabin for four days in late August. We soaked up the peaceful atmosphere, took hikes with views of the lake, went swimming and kayaking at nearby Garfield Bay and visited Sandpoint and its beach. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer and have a day or two of pure relaxation. We definitely recommend Starfire Cabin if you want a peaceful, quiet getaway with two wonderful hosts.
We stayed at the Starfire Cabin for 2 weeks in July. What a magical little cabin! Every detail was so thought out. There wasn't one thing I would change about it. We loved watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder all day. My daughter took photos of all the beautiful flowers with the bumblebees in and out. Evening walks down the drive to see the mares with their foals. Picking lettuce in the garden for dinner and strawberries for breakfast. We played Yahtzee every night which was just one of the games provided in the cabin. There is a lovely picnic area with a fire pit that we made smores in too many times (gained 3 pounds!). Kristina took my 6 year old to the neighbors to visit all her animals. George and my husband bonded by their sudden losses. Overall I couldn't have asked for a better 2 weeks and we really could have stayed longer. The cabin is tucked in the woods and even though temperatures in Sandpoint hit 100 we were perfectly comfortable without air conditioning. Love the washer and dryer! This was a wonderful experience for our little family and we highly recommend this enchanted cabin!
