Our comfortable holiday villa near Carcassonne, Languedoc France, has a fully enclosed, private south facing garden and swimming pool. The holiday villa consists of a light, open plan layout with lounge, dining and well-equipped kitchen areas. It has 3 bedrooms, two with double beds and the third with 2 single beds, all with good clothes storage. There is a family bathroom with shower over bath, and an additional cloakroom with WC. The lounge is equipped with two sofas, TV, CD & DVD player, audio system with an iPod docking station to connect to your own music collection. There is a range of multilingual cable TV stations. Cable and WiFi high speed Broadband Internet connection is provided for for your PC, etc. The dining area has a large table with 6 chairs.
Outside there is a shaded terrace and poolside/ BBQ area with a sunny south facing aspect. There is a table with 6 chairs for outdoor dining, and 6 loungers for soaking up the sun. The doors of the master bedroom also open directly onto the pool area. The quality synthetic lawn provides a year-round play area.
Two adult bicycles are provided in the villa (bike hire is also available in peak season in Carcassonne by the railway station and canal basin).

Village Location: The villa is in the lovely village of Villemoustaussou, which is typical of the charming old circular villages of the Aude region, and is conveniently located approximately 5km from Carcassonne centre and its renowned medieval fortress.
There are a variety of local shops in the village within a 10 minute walk of the villa, including:
- bakers (for freshly made baguettes, croissants and pastries!)
- green grocer
- general grocery store (Petit Casino)
- newsagent & tobacconist
An Intermarche hypermarket is conveniently located on the road from the villa into Carcassonne, on the Ponte Rouge shopping plaza. Also located there are Chinese buffet and burger restaurants, cinema and a bowling alley. For fresh local produce, Carcassonne has a general market in the main square (Place Carnot) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning - an excellent location for a leisurely coffee or cold beer at one of the cafes.
Canal du Midi: This famous waterway is just 5 minutes away from our holiday villa. The tree-lined canal path is ideal for leisurely walks or cycles. Alternatively, relaxing boat trips are available, embark opposite Carcassonne's railway station.
A car is recommended if you wish to fully explore the Aude region; however there is a good bus service (Agglo bus) into Carcassonne with nearest bus stop a 2 minute walk from the villa.
Carcassonne: Carcassonne town itself is split into two by the Aude river which flows down from the high Pyrenees. The famous medieval fortress is a popular tour attraction and dates back to pre-Roman times. It is the most impressively preserved walled city in Europe and has numerous restaurants, hotels and gift shops at its centre. The lower or 'new' town dates back to the 13th century, its central square and surrounding grid of narrow streets is worthy of exploration in itself.
Whether you decide to drive, cycle or hike, Carcassonne and the Aude Languedoc France countryside has the full range of scenery:
- the Cabardès vineyards in the north
- the eastern coastal lowlands around Narbonne
- the high valleys of the Pyrenees foothills in the south
- the hills and valleys towards Toulouse region in the west
Activities: A riding stables is located in Villemoustaussou, and Carcassonne has a par 71 golf course.
Lac de la Cavayére - This beautiful lake and wooded park is 15 minutes drive from the villa, and can be reached by bus from Carcassonne centre. The lake with its sand 'beach' and woods, covering 40 hectares, is a perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ. Designated swimming areas are supervised by qualified life guards during the high season, and there are special roped areas for young children and less confident swimmers. Canoes, pedalos are available for hire.
O2 Adventure Park – Also located at Lac de las Cavayére, it provides a range of adult and child activities including tree-top rope walks.
Walking, Cycling, Skiing: The villa is situated an hour and a half from the forested lower slopes of the Pyrenees so are very well placed for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. 50km north of Carcassonne is the south-west edge of the Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Languedoc, represented by the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains), also providing scenic drives and challenging hiking and off-road cycling terrain.
Mediterranean: If you want to visit the Mediterranean coast you can be on Narbonne 'plage' in an hour along the motorway - its long sandy beach and gently sloping sea bed is ideal for sand castles and youngsters. A more picturesque route is the road alongside the Canal Du Midi as is meanders through the Aude countryside towards the sea. Along this route there are various sites to take in - Minerve (slightly off the road), the Olive oil factory at Bize-Minervois, Le Somail - a pretty hamlet on the canal, L'Oppidum d'Ensérune - a Roman settlement on a hill overlooking the canal and curious l'Etang de Montady, the Seven connected locks at Fonséranes on the edge of Bezier onto Narbonne with its half-finished cathedral and Roman Via Domita in the central square. The beach at Narbonne Plage is only 10 mins away and if you want something more picturesque the coastal towns of Le Franqui or Leucate some 20mins further down the coast towards Spain.
Vineyards - Languedoc Roussillon France is a haven for wine-lovers. Carcassone is in the midst of the Carbardès, Corbières, Malepère and Minervois wine regions, There are many vineyards in the surrounding countryside where many producers offer vineyard tastings.

Albi - About an hour and a half drive away, the old city is France's largest conservation area, and has the world's largest brick-built cathedral (Sainte-Cecile). The 13th century Bishop's Palace houses the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.
Castlenaudry - 36km west of Carcassonne, this town is the main port of the Canal du Midi and the Grand Bassin is the largest open area of water in the canal.
Cathar castles - Aude departement of the Languedoc Roussillon region of France is the heart of Cathar country. Carcassonne is the most famous and fully restored Cathar castle. The remains of other castles and walled cities stand on high promontories and rocky outcrops along the Cathar castle trail which are steeped in the history of the middle ages. Just 12km from Villemoustaussou are the 4 towers remaining of the Lastours castles at 300 metres altitude, at the top of a mountain spur above the pretty Lastours village.
Caunes-Minervois - About 18km from Villemoustaussou is this medieval village of steep, twisting, narrow streets and sand-colored stone buildings surrounding the great 8th Century Abbey that lies at its heart. It nestles among the vineyards at the foot of the Montagne Noire, the southernmost area of the Massif Centrale.
Caves - The Languedoc Roussillon France region is honeycombed with over a dozen caves or grottos that are open to the general public. Each have their own unique points of geological interest and their own unique beauty - stalactites and stalagmites, enchanting rock formations, underground rivers and lakes. 20 minutes from Carcassonne is the Grotte de Limousis is the Gouffre géant de Cabrespine (The Giant Cabrespine Cave) and the Grotte de Limousis.
Limoux - About half an hour drive away and renowned for its sparkling wine Blanquette de Limoux which pre-dates champagne. It has to be tried and where better than at the summer night market held weekly in July and August. Limoux is probably best known for its winter clown festival, ‘Fècos’, which runs from February to April every year.
Perpignan – Just over 1 hour drive away, Perpignan is capital of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in Languedoc. It is the last major town in Languedoc before the Spanish border, hence this sunny city of palm-lined squares is essentially half Catalan and half French.
Rennes le Chateau - Known internationally and receiving tens of thousands of visitors per year, for being at the centre of various conspiracy theories - including rumours of a hidden treasure found by a 19th century priest.
Toulouse - If you enjoy culture, Toulouse is a must. The imposing Place du Capitol is an ideal starting point for exploring the many churches, art galleries & museums.

We love the convenience of Carcassonne's location and the variety of landscapes offered by the Aude region of Languedoc Roussillon France and wanted other people to also enjoy similar experiences, and so have rented our property to holiday makers since 2010.

- Our local concierge meets our guests to familiarize them with the property and its facilities, and is contactable through out our guest's stay at the villa.
- It is situated in a village location with a relaxing ambiance, yet is just minutes drive from Carcassonne town centre, a major Autoroute and Carcassonne airport.
- The village, Villemoustaussou, has its own local festival and events yet has all year round activities going on in Carcassonne and other nearby towns. So whatever time of year you decide to visit there is nearly always something interesting happening in the area.

Cuando empezamos a mirar cosas por internet siempre aparece la duda, si lo que vemos realmente se ajusta a la realidad.
Pues bien, en el caso de la Villa de Villemoustaussou nos gustaría resaltar que se ajusta totalmente a la realidad. La casa se encuentra en una zona residencial muy tranquila. La villa es muy cómoda, con espacios amplios. La decoración es moderna. Los armarios son grandes. Tampoco falta detalle en el menaje de la casa. En General se puede decir que la casa está muy bien equipada. Resumiendo hemos estado como en casa y recomendamos la casa para todo tipo de familias. Sin duda alguna repetiríamos.
No quisiéramos desaprovechar la ocasión para agradecer las atenciones recibidas, antes, durante y después de nuestra inolvidable estancia.
