Village Location: The villa is in the lovely village of Villemoustaussou, which is typical of the charming old circular villages of the Aude region, and is conveniently located approximately 5km from Carcassonne centre and its renowned medieval fortress.

There are a variety of local shops in the village within a 10 minute walk of the villa, including:

- bakers (for freshly made baguettes, croissants and pastries!)

- butcher

- chemist

- green grocer

- general grocery store (Petit Casino)

- hairdresser

- newsagent & tobacconist

- bar-restaurants

- pizzeria

An Intermarche hypermarket is conveniently located on the road from the villa into Carcassonne, on the Ponte Rouge shopping plaza. Also located there are Chinese buffet and burger restaurants, cinema and a bowling alley. For fresh local produce, Carcassonne has a general market in the main square (Place Carnot) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning - an excellent location for a leisurely coffee or cold beer at one of the cafes.

Canal du Midi: This famous waterway is just 5 minutes away from our holiday villa. The tree-lined canal path is ideal for leisurely walks or cycles. Alternatively, relaxing boat trips are available, embark opposite Carcassonne's railway station.

A car is recommended if you wish to fully explore the Aude region; however there is a good bus service (Agglo bus) into Carcassonne with nearest bus stop a 2 minute walk from the villa.

Carcassonne: Carcassonne town itself is split into two by the Aude river which flows down from the high Pyrenees. The famous medieval fortress is a popular tour attraction and dates back to pre-Roman times. It is the most impressively preserved walled city in Europe and has numerous restaurants, hotels and gift shops at its centre. The lower or 'new' town dates back to the 13th century, its central square and surrounding grid of narrow streets is worthy of exploration in itself.

Whether you decide to drive, cycle or hike, Carcassonne and the Aude Languedoc France countryside has the full range of scenery:

- the Cabardès vineyards in the north

- the eastern coastal lowlands around Narbonne

- the high valleys of the Pyrenees foothills in the south

- the hills and valleys towards Toulouse region in the west

Activities: A riding stables is located in Villemoustaussou, and Carcassonne has a par 71 golf course.

Lac de la Cavayére - This beautiful lake and wooded park is 15 minutes drive from the villa, and can be reached by bus from Carcassonne centre. The lake with its sand 'beach' and woods, covering 40 hectares, is a perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ. Designated swimming areas are supervised by qualified life guards during the high season, and there are special roped areas for young children and less confident swimmers. Canoes, pedalos are available for hire.

O2 Adventure Park – Also located at Lac de las Cavayére, it provides a range of adult and child activities including tree-top rope walks.

Walking, Cycling, Skiing: The villa is situated an hour and a half from the forested lower slopes of the Pyrenees so are very well placed for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. 50km north of Carcassonne is the south-west edge of the Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Languedoc, represented by the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains), also providing scenic drives and challenging hiking and off-road cycling terrain.

Mediterranean: If you want to visit the Mediterranean coast you can be on Narbonne 'plage' in an hour along the motorway - its long sandy beach and gently sloping sea bed is ideal for sand castles and youngsters. A more picturesque route is the road alongside the Canal Du Midi as is meanders through the Aude countryside towards the sea. Along this route there are various sites to take in - Minerve (slightly off the road), the Olive oil factory at Bize-Minervois, Le Somail - a pretty hamlet on the canal, L'Oppidum d'Ensérune - a Roman settlement on a hill overlooking the canal and curious l'Etang de Montady, the Seven connected locks at Fonséranes on the edge of Bezier onto Narbonne with its half-finished cathedral and Roman Via Domita in the central square. The beach at Narbonne Plage is only 10 mins away and if you want something more picturesque the coastal towns of Le Franqui or Leucate some 20mins further down the coast towards Spain.

Vineyards - Languedoc Roussillon France is a haven for wine-lovers. Carcassone is in the midst of the Carbardès, Corbières, Malepère and Minervois wine regions, There are many vineyards in the surrounding countryside where many producers offer vineyard tastings.

Other Carcassonne activities all year round typically include:

Jazz Week: April,

Festival of Music: June ,

Festival of the Cité: July ,

Festival of the Bastide: July ,

Fireworks at the Cité: 14th July ,

Spanish Week: last week in August ,

Nautical Jousting: September ,

The Cité Marathon and Half-Marathon: October ,

Christmas Festival: December,

Le Parc Australien, April-November

Other notable places include:

Albi - About an hour and a half drive away, the old city is France's largest conservation area, and has the world's largest brick-built cathedral (Sainte-Cecile). The 13th century Bishop's Palace houses the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.

Castlenaudry - 36km west of Carcassonne, this town is the main port of the Canal du Midi and the Grand Bassin is the largest open area of water in the canal.

Cathar castles - Aude departement of the Languedoc Roussillon region of France is the heart of Cathar country. Carcassonne is the most famous and fully restored Cathar castle. The remains of other castles and walled cities stand on high promontories and rocky outcrops along the Cathar castle trail which are steeped in the history of the middle ages. Just 12km from Villemoustaussou are the 4 towers remaining of the Lastours castles at 300 metres altitude, at the top of a mountain spur above the pretty Lastours village.

Caunes-Minervois - About 18km from Villemoustaussou is this medieval village of steep, twisting, narrow streets and sand-colored stone buildings surrounding the great 8th Century Abbey that lies at its heart. It nestles among the vineyards at the foot of the Montagne Noire, the southernmost area of the Massif Centrale.

Caves - The Languedoc Roussillon France region is honeycombed with over a dozen caves or grottos that are open to the general public. Each have their own unique points of geological interest and their own unique beauty - stalactites and stalagmites, enchanting rock formations, underground rivers and lakes. 20 minutes from Carcassonne is the Grotte de Limousis is the Gouffre géant de Cabrespine (The Giant Cabrespine Cave) and the Grotte de Limousis.

Limoux - About half an hour drive away and renowned for its sparkling wine Blanquette de Limoux which pre-dates champagne. It has to be tried and where better than at the summer night market held weekly in July and August. Limoux is probably best known for its winter clown festival, ‘Fècos’, which runs from February to April every year.

Perpignan – Just over 1 hour drive away, Perpignan is capital of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in Languedoc. It is the last major town in Languedoc before the Spanish border, hence this sunny city of palm-lined squares is essentially half Catalan and half French.

Rennes le Chateau - Known internationally and receiving tens of thousands of visitors per year, for being at the centre of various conspiracy theories - including rumours of a hidden treasure found by a 19th century priest.

Toulouse - If you enjoy culture, Toulouse is a must. The imposing Place du Capitol is an ideal starting point for exploring the many churches, art galleries & museums.

About Kathy Webber

We (Chris & Kathy) purchased our villa in 2008. We are dog lovers and they are part of our family - hence well-behaved dogs are also welcome to come and stay with their families!!

Here we are in the fourth season of successfully renting our holiday home to like-minded visitors. We have had many lovely guests from all over the world who, based on their feedback, have thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Carcassonne and their stay in our villa - see our guest reviews.

Kathy Webber purchased this villa in 2008

Why Kathy Webber chose Carcassonne City

We love the convenience of Carcassonne's location and the variety of landscapes offered by the Aude region of Languedoc Roussillon France and wanted other people to also enjoy similar experiences, and so have rented our property to holiday makers since 2010.

What makes this villa unique

- Our local concierge meets our guests to familiarize them with the property and its facilities, and is contactable through out our guest's stay at the villa.

- It is situated in a village location with a relaxing ambiance, yet is just minutes drive from Carcassonne town centre, a major Autoroute and Carcassonne airport.

- The village, Villemoustaussou, has its own local festival and events yet has all year round activities going on in Carcassonne and other nearby towns. So whatever time of year you decide to visit there is nearly always something interesting happening in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Extremely well equipped & the pool is the icing on the cake!! We were blessed with good weather but were glad when we went into Carcassonne that it was abit cooler. Went to O'Vineyards (1.5 miles). Wow!! super people (American/French) had a wine tasting. Went back the following night for a meal. Absolutely FABULOUS evening.

una casa perfectament equipada

  • 5 of 5

Truly amazing villa in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5
Wow - what a wonderful villa. It has all the mod cons and is spotlessly clean and welcoming. This really is home from home. The pool was wonderful as the weather was in the high 20s C. There is plenty for every-one in Carcasonne and the surrounding area with wonderful walks, bars, restaurants and the village is a bit of real France. Thank you for a wonderful time. Highly reccommended!

PHOTOS DON'T DO IT JUSTICE

PHOTOS DON'T DO IT JUSTICE

We had a lovely time, the weather was wonderful and your Villa amazing. Spacious, clean and equipped with all one could need. I almost regretted not taking my mum with us this time as it would have been ideal as it was all on one level with no nasty uneven floors inside for trip hazards for the elderly. The garden was beautiful and neat topped off to perfection with the wonderful pool, and the pictures on the website does not do it justice as we did not expect the lovely views you got of the mountains in the distance.

We have been to France in the past but stayed in rural gites so was not sure what to expect with the villa being on an estate. However, it surpassed any expectations we could have had, with the added bonus of having no furry little creatures or strange bugs to contend with, usually in the most unexpected places!

It was perfect for our pet as we did not have to concern ourselves with where she might wander as it was so well enclosed, and the same could be said for anyone with children. As predicted the local vet was very helpful and the process of having our dogs passport completed for the return journey was a fairly painless process.

The surrounding areas are very pleasant and we enjoyed our visits to the coast, Carcasonne and the nearby lake. Just wished we could have stayed longer.

Thanks John and Pam.

Brilliant

Thank you Kathy for a wonderful relaxing stay at your Villa. The villa is exceptionally equipped with both kitchen and garden/pool equipment.
The garden area is very private where you can catch the sun all day; there is also a nice shaded area to have meals etc.
The location to the village is just a short walk away.
Thanks Geoff for being on hand to greet us and put us through our paces.
The wifi connection was very useful as we spent most of the time outside soaking up the sun or in the pool.
The organisation is top class and would recommend anyone to book accommodation this way without worry.
Thanks again.

Fabulous end to our honeymoon

  • 5 of 5
We spent a lovely week at Villa CLK as the second part of our honeymoon. After 9 days of busy travelling, sightseeing and staying in lots of different places, it was great to settle in the one place for a week and relax. The villa is very well equipped and we felt very much at home. The pool was well cared for and a good size so we could actually swim in it (not always the case with villa pools).

We very much appreciated having the DVD player and satellite (husband watched Pointless every day - talk about romance on your honeymoon!!). The kitchen has great facilities too so it was good to be able to cook properly after more than a week of eating out of boulangeries and restaurants!

Kathy, thank you for your great communication, right from the initial booking through to after our return. A big thank you too for the honeymoon gift and the wine!

The villa is well situated for both Carcassonne and the local shops. We walked or cycled to the boulangerie every morning for bread and the supermarket is just a couple of minutes in the car (on a big retail park with lots of other amenities).

We would love to visit again and would recommend the villa to everyone as it would suit families, couples and groups of friends.

Thank you Kathy!

-

Nearby airports: Carcassonne (4km), Beziers (100km), Toulouse (100km), Perpignan (114km), Montpellier (155km).

-

Flights from the UK to Carcassonne Salvaza airport take from around just one hour and forty minutes.

-

The town is also connected to the TGV high speed rail network, and is conveniently served by the A61 Autoroute from Toulouse to Narbonne.

-

Whether you decide to drive, cycle or hike, Aude offers lovers of the open air the full range of scenery from the Minervois and Cabardès vineyards in the north, the eastern coastal lowlands of Narbonne, the high valleys of the Pyrenees foothills to the south, to the rolling countryside which leads to Toulouse in the west.

-

There are two renowned World Heritage sites to explore (the medieval Carcassonne Cité fortress and the Canal du Midi) and you are surrounded by medieval Cathar history.

-

Serious hikers or mountain bikers staying at our villa can take on the challenge of the Cathar trail, including with numerous ruined castles and fortifications.

-

Ski: The nearby Ariège and Pyrénées mountains see frequent snow throughout winter and so Carcassonne is often used as a base for skiing holidays; the nearest ski pistes are around one and a half hours away by car.
