I have been an active outdoors person all my life. I enjoy gardening, hikes, animal watching and many more outdoor activities.

Richard purchased this house in 2007

This property is one of the best in the area with many outdoor activities. Close to Traverse City and many tourist hot spots it can't be beat!

I purchased this vacant property in 2005 and camped on it for 2 years on and off to get a feel for the land before I built on it. I believe the location of the home and its surrounding land makes it a great vacation spot for all.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I rented this house for two nights and it was absolutely wonderful! Richard was very helpful and even loaned us tubes and kayaks to take down the river. He also took the things to the drop off spot for us so we could just float back to the house!! The house fit 7 adults very comfortably! At night we all sat on the deck and we had a wonderful view of the starry sky! I would definitely go back and stay again!!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5
Our son lives in the Detroit area and his family usually travels out West to be with the rest of the family. This year we came to the East and just loved the area around Traverse City...so much to do.
Our crew consisted of 6 adults and 4 children from ages 1 thru 8.
My initial dealings with Richard 8 months out from booking his cabin were very positive and I did look forward to meeting him. He is a great host and most willing to do anything you ask.
We really appreciated his wanting us to be comfortable and with his house it is simply that...very well appointed and we truly enjoyed our stay for the week.
The kids really enjoyed getting the fresh eggs a number of times and it made for great breakfast meals.
Don't hesitate to book this place. You will enjoy the location and the great fire pit beside the river.

Honeymoon was a Dream

  • 5 of 5
Traverse City holds a special place in our hearts, especially after we were married at the Mission Point Lighthouse last week. As much as I want to keep this place a secret so that we can be assured a reservation in our many coming visits to Northwest Michigan, there is no way to keep quiet about how marvelous it was. My husband and I, with our 10 year old son/stepson just enjoyed the best week of our lives together so far while staying at Richard's gorgeous property.

Every detail seems meticulously planned in this house, from the top-of-the-line appliances (including steam shower and outdoor Jacuzzi with an unbeatable view of the starry night sky!) to the perfectly placed nature photography and artwork. We even enjoyed a barbeque with family who were still in town after our wedding and everyone was amazed at the beauty of the house and it's environment.

Richard was an incredibly kind host, taking us up the river for a 2 hour kayaking trip back down to the house, recommending a charter fishing friend (Todd), indoor shooting range (Shooters), and offering plenty of suggestions about how to get the most out of the property and surrounding natural environment.

Needless to say, after our week was up, we were not ready to leave! I have a feeling we'll need to start planning our vacations a year in advance since this place is likely to be 100% booked with return guests!

Relaxation Station

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a beautiful, rustic/modern, secluded home in the woods that just so happens to sit right on the river than this is the place for you. My wife and I enjoyed a week long stay here and enjoyed every minute. The seclusion, the amenities, the river, and your own personal concierge RICHARD! Richard the owner was half of the reasons we had such a great time. He brought us up river and dropped us off in our kayaks one day. Showed us the local trails, told us about all the local eateries, brew pubs, and secret spots. Any questions we had, he had an answer. He went out of his way multiple times to make sure we were having a blast. He even set us up with 5 kayaks for my family when they came for a few days. Lets talk about kayaking the Boardman river. If you have even the slightest adventurist spirit, you MUST kayak the Boardman river. (same river that runs in front of the house) We did a couple trips down the river and kayaked right to the front of the house. How cool is that? The trip was so beautiful and serene. We stopped along the way to fish and made a day of it. Traverse city is only 15 minutes away and is filled with restaurants, activities, shops, ect. If you are a fisherman you will love the fact that there are monster brown trout right in front of the house in the river. I caught few big boys and a bunch of brook trout right beside the fire pit. Making a fire with the already split complimentary firewood, and sitting by the river while listening to the wildlife was better than any stress reliever you can think of. I will be returning and I cannot think of any reason to look somewhere else. This place has it all.

Family Getaway

Firstly, the place was fantastic. In fact the only "complaint" was that the place was so spotless, I didn't want to disturb it. The owner claims that he had 10 college students stay in the house. I don't believe him. The place looked like we were the first to stay there. It's better than some hotel rooms I've stayed in. Secondly, there's the owner Richard. He made our stay smooth and stress-free. He was prompt for any questions we had and very helpful with directions, nearby services etc. The surroundings were peaceful with the river just out the front door. We're definitely going back.

Guys' Weekend Up North

Guys' Weekend Up North
  • 5 of 5
What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said in the other reviews? The home and property are absolutely stunning. As said in other reviews, the pictures truly do not do it justice. The home was spotlessly clean and equipped with many modern amenities you wouldn't usually expect in a rental property (gourmet kitchen, steam shower, hot tub, wi-fi air card, satellite TV). Richard was a gracious host and great to work with. He greeted us at our arrival, gave us a quick tour and made sure we knew to call him if we needed anything. The home's location is perfect. Just far enough off the beaten path to get that real secluded in nature feeling, but only a quick car ride from downtown TC and the beach - and also within range for taxi cab service for those looking to conquer the infamous "TC Ale Trail" as we did. All in all, a great weekend "up north." Would return in a heartbeat, very highly recommended.

Located on the beautiful Boardman River just min. away from historic downtown Traverse City. Many wonderful restaurants, wineries, golf courses, and shops just to name a few of the many things available to do and see in the area. Great boating and fishing, hiking and kayaking. We have the Cherry Festival in July, Horse show in July, Movie Festival after that and many, many events thru-out the spring, summer, and fall. And don't forget about the fall colors. There is no better place to see them than on the River! There is plenty of wildlife in the area, lots to do and see right in this beautiful home's backyard!
