Quintessential Maine! Monday to Monday Rental Schedule! Designed & decorated with care by a well-known artist. She fell in love with the property and dreams of living there one day. The cottage is simply elegant, easy to care for, warm, and inviting. You will feel like a welcome guest in a private home that you have all to yourself.
Planning a wedding or a family reunion? This cottage would be perfect for the newlyweds; we have other cottages available nearby for friends and family.
The site is a spectacular point of ocean front land with a beach, only for island residents, next door and a southeast view. Let your cares melt away as you gaze out over the sea. Smell the salt air, the balsam fir and the wild roses. Feel the cool breezes and, for the more adventurous, the invigorating shock of the cold ocean water. Listen to the soothing sound of the waves, the cry of gulls, and the sound of the lobster boats as they come and go to Atwood's Lobster across the bay. At dinner time you will start to see the twinkle of the lights, the glow of the evening sun reflecting off the boats on their moorings, and possibly the full moon rising over the water.
The cottage is fully equipped. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Well behaved dogs are welcome.
There is lots to see and do for people of all ages. The local restaurants are outstanding and if you like cooking you will love the quality and variety of foods and drink.
The cottage is very well insulated to make it warm and draft free in the winter, cool in the summer. It has been outfitted with a state of the art Life Breath Whole House Ventilation System for your comfort and health.
The cottage is currently undergoing improvements for Spring 2015 so it may not be available until Memorial Day. The owners are adding a new covered front porch and plans are underway to take better advantage of the view from the upstairs bedroom and living room. We will post photos as soon as they are available.

The owner fell in love with Rackliff Island and this particular property. She wanted, more than anything, to design the perfect little cottage for it. You could be one of the first to stay in it.
The view is fabulous. The setting is serene. The cottage is tucked away, barely visible from the road, nestled in a lightly wooded point of land that sits directly on the ocean, facing southeast. It looks out toward Two Bush Lighthouse, several islands, and the charming little fishing community of Spruce Head. A shared beach and a float for island residents, visible only through the foliage, abuts the property on the east. A little path winds around the property, from the deck off of the kitchen, around the upper edge of the shoreline, past your own private picnic area, and over toward the beach. Large boulders on the water’s edge and within the property are typical of the rugged beauty for which Maine is famous.
It is the sort of property that inspires people, young and old, to let their imaginations run wild and to let their cares fly away with the sea breezes.
The cottage is small yet allows for privacy. It is perfect for two couples or a small family and is also intimate enough for one or two people. The two bedrooms are separated. One is on the main floor while the other is upstairs. There will be a pull out bed for one extra person, if needed. The design is simple for easy living yet elegant. Your well behaved dog is welcome.
This adorable cottage, tucked amongst the trees and rocks beside the sea is a true delight. Nothing has been overlooked. What a perfect little haven this is!
Everything I needed is here - the smell of salt air, the sound of the waves on the Maine rocks, the cry of osprey overhead, and the mystical call of a loon in the night. I will return again and again to this peaceful little cottage by the sea.
This is a special place on a special island. Gorgeous views of the water, great walking opportunities and most of all, a house that feels like a nostalgic cottage, but with all the modern amenities one could want. A little gas stove for cool evenings, every necessity for cooking, comfortable beds, great showers and artwork everywhere. Really a pleasure on every level. No TV or DVD, but reliable internet so no problems there. This is a jewel!
Had an amazing week at this lovely cottage on Rackliff Island. Brand new construction on a wonderful piece of land - right on the water. The location is excellent with quite a bit of water frontage. Mornings were spent sitting out on the rocks with a cup of hot tea and my camera, taking photos of the passing lobster boats (the morning fog a few days was a nice touch). Then, back to the deck overlooking the water for breakfast and planning (or not!) the day. The dog loved being loose with us on the property, climbing on the rocks and giving the waves a piece of her mind!
The house is very well appointed and everything we could have possibly thought of was there for us. The kitchen was amazing and no expense was sparred to ensure that you would feel right at home. High end appliances, dishes, cookware, etc - not often you have All Clad and Williams Sonoma in a rental property! We cooked quite a few meals at the cottage and were very at home. Even the pantry was well stocked with many of the basics (and some not so basic) that you would need on your stay. I can't think of anything that was overlooked in this area. Even a few cold beers in the fridge!
The beds were comfortable with soft linens. The bathrooms were very nice. They even had a little tube of Neosporin in the medicine chest which we needed in a pinch for our dog who scraped herself in the woods! Days were warm and nights were cool so we enjoyed the breezes in the house but were able to put on the fireplace in the evenings. The artwork in the cottage is beautiful.
Having a washer/dryer in the cottage was a huge plus for us. Wifi was quick - we were able to stream a movie one rainy night with no issues. The cottage comes with a TV in the bedroom but we didn't use it as it was nice to just listen to the quiet or a little relaxing music.
When we arrived we were treated to fresh cut flowers and herbs as well as a very nice bottle of wine that was promptly opened on the deck.
The surrounding area was very nice and we found many great little places to eat and explore without feeling like we were in the middle of the tourist hustle and bustle - which we hate and were concerned about being a July vacation.
All in all a great visit and I suspect that we'll be back next year! Thank you Crystal for making the arrangements so easy and to the owner for the nice follow up note that we received. It truly was a wonderful week.
This area is particularly attractive to people who love great food combined with beautiful scenery. There are fantastic restaurants and there are also wonderful places to buy fresh seafood & local produce from farmer's markets. It is so easy to whip up a fresh and delicious gourmet meal here. The local markets have everything you need. You can have lunch out and a private dinner at home by the fire with an unobstructed view of the ocean.
