I am legal counsel for two business units of Applied Materials, Inc. – an international designer and manufacturer of equipment for semiconductor devices production, based in Silicon Valley. Until 2009 I was the Chief IP counsel for a semiconductor manufacturer in Kalispell, that was purchased by Applied Materials. I presently live in San Jose, with my wife, Debra, who is the chief managed care contracts negotiator for Stanford Medical’s physician groups.

BEAUTIFUL VACATION HOME ON THE FLATHEAD RIVER

Our family came from 6 different states for a wonderful family reunion at my mother-in-law's home in Kalispell. She didn't have enough room for all of us, so my husband and our kids & their children rented this beautiful 4-bedroom, 3-bath home located on the Flathead River on the south end of town in Kalispell. We thought about getting 3 motel rooms, but then found this home, which cost two-thirds less than what a motel would have cost, and we had all the privileges of home...cooking, grilling, showers, food prep, relaxing, fishing, and just about anything else you would like to enjoy. The home is lovely, with beautiful hard wood floors, granite counter tops, and the kitchen is every woman's (or man's) dream kitchen! The outside covered deck overlooks the Flathead River, and the sunsets are stunning. Deer came out every evening we were there. The river has a bridge that goes over it and the grandkids learned to fish and cast for the first time. The beds were so comfortable, that we all slept better than we have in years. The owners' friend met us when we arrived in town and we followed him to the home. He helped with several things while we were there, and was such a nice man. This was an amazing experience and we highly recommend this for anyone considering having a vacation in the Kalispell area. It is close to grocery stores, shopping, Flathead Lake, Big Fork, Glacier National Park, Whitefish...5 stars from us!!! (Note: We had children ranging from 13 months to 13 years old...it is not "baby proofed" and we knew that ahead of time, so we brought a baby gate along to keep the 13-month old from climbing the stairs up to the 3 bedrooms. Also, we have dogs, but decided to not bring them along...we are glad we left them at home, as having young children and all the going's on, we could have been overwhelmed with having to take care of the dogs, too...even tho they were welcomed for a minimal fee.) The listing description is very accurate, and the photos are right-on with displaying the home's character and beauty...in fact, it is even more stunning in person! The property was well maintained and the inside was very clean and orderly. The bedrooms were so inviting with their overstuffed comforters and pillows. The owners have been extremely helpful and responded directly to all my questions and concerns that I had prior to our trip. We could not have been more pleased.

GREAT TIME AT THE RIVER HOUSE

We stayed at the River House for a week in July. Truly, it is one of my fondest vacation memories not only because we were able to visit with beloved family while we were there but the River House offered everything to make a vacation enjoyable. The description of the property on the VRBO site is accurate, however it pales to the actual beauty of the home and yard. The property was clean, well-maintained and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils.

The owner, being thoughtful of our comfort as it was rather warm in the house when we arrived, called to instruct us on the usage of the air conditioning unit and was available to answer any other questions we had.

I would recommend this vacation home to others as a fine home away from home. Please be advised that there are tenants in the basement. That was a little bit of a surprise but they are very pleasant folks and were not an inconvenience by any means. They didn't use the main house at all while we were there. Evidently they own the washer and dryer that is in the main house so we didn't feel comfortable utilizing them.

This home is a great place to entertain guests.

Though we mention it in our listing, we apologize for not being more clear that the house has a basement apartment with separate entrance and garage from a separate driveway. Jim, a MT State Trooper, lives there with his wife, Lacy. Jim is Lee's (the caretaker) step-son, so they know the house and the Flathead Valley well.

I hope you had the opportunity to take Lee up on his offer to go flying. If not, maybe next year. It is spectacular!

FAMILY REUNION

This property is the best. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for the ladies. The river and park nearby with deer and water fowl made for perfect photo ops. And the large white bunny coming by every night for treats, wonderful.

Very close to Glacier, numerous fishing spots and all kinds of amenitys in Kalispell. The goats in Glacier are too easy to see up close on the many trails.

Some of us were able to hitch a ride in a private plane and see the park from the air. No comparison.

Lee the caretaker was fantastic. Overall rate this a 9.5. The only thing that would make it better is a full size bed with quality matress in the 4th bedroom instead of the futon. Fortunately we had a couple staying only a few days out of the week we were there, so it wasn't so bad. With that added, it would be a perfect "10".

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback; especially regarding the futon. We try to emphasize in our listing that it is a futon, though it has superior, thicker mattress. The wooden futon frame may make it appear smaller, but we are certain it is queen-sized, since it uses the same sheets as our other standard queen mattress in the 3rd room. We are just glad it worked for your family.
