We have been married for 40 years and have been on Big Star Lake for about 30 of those years. We spend our time between the lake and Florida. We grew up in the Holland/Zeeland area and raised our family there before moving to Big Star Lake.
Wanda Michmerhuizen purchased this cabin in 2011
We spent 18 years next door to this cottage and when our neighbor, now 102 years of age, decided to sell, we jumped at the chance to own this wonderful, peaceful cottage.
You have your own beach, dock, water access, parking and all the amenities of home.
Have enjoyed this cottage for the past two years, and have already signed up for next year.
Big Star Lake is a beautiful lake for many types of activities, from boating to fishing. The bottom is sandy, and the water is clear and warm.
The cottage is well maintained with many amenities. It has air conditioning for relief from those sweltering days and for getting a good night’s sleep. The washer and dryer were a huge benefit so we didn’t have to pack so many clothes or have stuff always drying on the line. It was nice to have wi-fi and cable TV just in case we needed to keep in touch. We love the large grassy area for many family activities. There is a nice sandy beach with a dock and seating area. The beach is perfect for the little ones to play in the sand and the water – it gets deep very slowly so the kids have a lot of area in which to play. We were able to keep our Sea-Doo by the dock so we could hop on at any time.
Our family had a great time here! This cottage was perfect, clean and comfortable. The neighbors were friendly and helpful. We've been to many lakes and many cottages, I think we'll be back here next year!
We spent a gloriously relaxing week at this cottage around the Fourth of July holiday. Even on a "busy" weekend, the lake was pleasantly active not crowded or noisy. The beach is pretty and private, and the sandy-bottomed lake is perfect for a swim. The cottage itself is thoughtfully appointed and within driving distance of lots of interesting destinations including the dunes and Traverse City. Wanda and Russ (owners who live next door) are a treasure.
We enjoyed our stay at this cottage on Big Star Lake and would definitely go back again. The cottage is clean, cozy and quaint - that was all we needed. Kitchen is quite small, but that wasn't a problem for us as we mostly grill out. We brought our boat, anchored to the shore and tied it up to the dock. We have a 26' open bow and we had no problems.
One thing renters may want to know, if they enjoy watersports activities - the lake is no-wake from 7:00pm til 11:00am. We loved the peace and quiet on the lake.
Enjoyed the (appx) 10 mile bike ride around the lake, boating, fishing and playing games in the large front yard.
Overall a very nice experience!
Very nice cottage. The property is very clean. Ease of use to get to the beach. Docked our boat for the week with no problems. Family enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, skiing, cooking out, etc. No AC, but with fans we kept cool. Kids enjoyed going into town to get Ice Cream at "Jones". Have already told our friends and family to look into vacationing here with there families! The neighbors are very friendly and the Property Owners are wonderful! Our family enjoyed our week there and look forward to going back again.
Very clean, maintained and up to date cottage. The lake is one of the nicest in the area and cleanest. Sandy beach and play area and easy access for any watercraft you take along. No airconditioning however the cottage is small enough that we could blow the cooler evening / night air into the bedrooms and it worked well. Good neighbors also!
