2 Bedroom, 2 Bath unit opens up to 1300 Sq Ft of Indoor Outdoor living area with 37.5' of protected dockage with views of the water on one side and the Key Colony Municipal Golf Course across the street. A total renovation brings new life to this property. From the moment you enter the screen porch you will know you are in for a treat. The outdoor living area of the screen porch flows directly into the home through the double pane French Doors in the living area or the entry door. The porch has a full size outdoor couch and two 'chair and a half' loungers with ottomans. A new elevated composite trek deck flows directly into the house and out to the back yard creating a transition deck area before you step down to the patio and the tiki hut waterside. A bamboo privacy screening on the porch gives the feel of a tropical outside retreat. Just steps through the new double French Doors and you are in the newly remodeled living and kitchen area. The living and kitchen areas are defined only by the new tile topped kitchen island and the area flows out to the porch or through the back sliding glass doors to the deck, patio and dock. The tiki is another great spot to relax under cover and enjoy the waterviews or critique the fisherman on their return from a day on the water.
The master bedroom will charm you, a king size bed, flat screen TV and soft, warm colors will sooth and relax your whether you are preparing for a nights rest or an afternoon nap. The new master bath has a spacious walk in marble tile shower with a built in seat and framless glass doors.
The guest bedroom has two twin beds that can be converted into a king size bed, ideal for two couples. The new hall bath is just steps away and has a tiled shower and granite topped vanity.
A boarding ladder is on the dock for boat access or swimming in the canal. Fish cleaning table is also dockside and just above the underwater lights so our resident fish get a piece of your good day fishing too! One of the most exotic features of Rock Lobster Bungalow is the outdoor lighting system that is automatically turned on by dusk to dawn timers. The entire patio, deck, dock and tiki hut is lit up with a soothing, warm rope illumination that is similar to what you would experience on the patio of an outdoor restaurant. Perfect for dining and after dinner drinks while looking at an amazing star filled southern sky. We have also setup one of old Florida's classic games in the Tiki Hut...The Ring Toss. There are two ropes so that multiple people and teams can play. Another lighting feature is the underwater light located under the dock. You will be amazed at how different types of fish are gathered around this light in the evening. If you have been to the keys before you have seen places that feed the fish regularly and it produces a host of different fish who become 'residents'. We encourage you to put some chum or bait in the bags near the light as our resident Mangrove Snapper, Mullet, Jacks, Snook, Tarpon, Sting Rays, Lookdowns, Barracuda and Baitfish have been used to this and we like to keep them around! After many years as a restaurateur I thought this would be another service business that would really fit my lifestyle as it includes frequent travel to the most beautiful place in Florida...The Keys!

After looking at hundreds of canalfront properties in the marathon area I found that this particular location had the most amount of important amenities for the price. With 37ft of dock space, open views to a golf course (where do you find that in the keys?), walking distance to everything and your own police force that keeps the neighborhood secure, it was far and away the best place to be in the area.
I wanted to create a tropical bungalow setting with an edge. To me, coming back from diving/fishing/swiming and relaxing under a Tiki Hut without having to drag all my gear back to a hotel room or car was the ultimate experience. In my many years of coming to the Keys I found that very few properties had that feeling that the inside and outside were connected. I built the porch deck and front deck around the living room to give that open air feeling that the Keys are all about. I am a USCG Licensed 50 ton captain and spend much of my spare time on or underwater so many of the features you will see here make life on the water even more enjoyable.
The property is very well cared for and clean with everything you need in the kitchen. Brian has thought of everything you need for a comfortable stay. The screened porch Is a perfect place to have breakfast and plan your day; the Tiki Hut is perfect for watching the sunsets. The underwater lights at the dock attract a variety of fish every night. The causeway is not very busy and quiet at night. You definely need a car for adventures. It is a single level duplex with just a couple of steps at the entries. It is conveniently located for day trips and you have access to the associations beach. We had a woderful time. Heads up, Coconuts are plentiful.
We spent a wonderful two weeks at RLB. Brian has thought of just about everything to make your stay most enjoyable. The location was great and we were amazed at how quiet it was at night. A perfect place to chill out! We rented a boat from All Aboard Boat Rentals on Coco Plum (convenient/great owners) and tied up to "our backyard" seawall. We cooked most of our meals at RLB--it has all the tools you need, and ate under the tiki hut. The few times we did go out for meals, we enjoyed "Burdines" by car and boat, and Grassy Key Outpost (car). During our daily walks on KCB, we did get to see a burrowing owl--maybe it was "Rocky". This is definitely paradise with all sorts of beautiful tropical plants, so a heads up--literally. There are some tall coconut trees that overhang the driveway (and all over the Keys) so pay attention where you park. Small and large coconuts dropped almost daily (luckily, we were spared). RLB is on the top of our "Return" list. THANK YOU BRIAN!!!
This was our first trip to Florida and the Keys. We live in Lima, Peru and what a spectacular trip that took us all through Florida and ended with what was the perfect week at this well appointed, well described and very clean waterside retreat. We enjoyed the tiki hut, underwater lights and the attached porch with just endless breezes....there is an open golf course across the street with wide open green space. The cabana club pool appeared to have been remodeled recently and was an easy walk, great beach there.
Rock Lobster is extremely comfortable and something we highly recommend.
My wife and I stayed at your rental for 5 days and nights and checked out yesterday morning. We really enjoyed the bungalow and middle Keys location. The house was perfect—really enjoyed the back deck, grill and tiki hut. The kitchen and bathrooms were well appointed and the washer/dryer really came in handy and allowed us to travel light. We especially enjoyed the underwater lights and interesting displays of local fish at night. We also enjoyed the bikes for short local hops, especially to see the sunsets on a few evenings.
Many thanks for the tip to go fishing with Jason—he set us up in one of his boats with Roger as captain and first mate Wayne. We went about 7 miles out and quickly caught our full limit of mangrove snapper in a few hours and added in a few yellow tail, mackerel, and a beautiful red grouper that Sparky’s cooked up for dinner—spectacular!
We definitely want to come back again and bring our teenage girls, we know they would love the area and all of the local attractions. We will certainly be in touch for out next trip to the Keys!!
The Rock Lobster Bungalow was a fantastic choice for us. We had stayed in the lower keys for many many years and our third stay on Key Colony but with the two of us the Bungalow was perfect. We were not able to do all the fishing we wanted to because of the high winds and seas, but no fault of this adorable well furnished retreat. Loved the night glow lights in the water; saw all kinds of aquatic life and even on our last night, saw a huge tarpon swim by. Very cool! My sweetie threw a line into the dark for hours hoping to catch the big one! The king bed in the master suite, is WONDERFUL. Only problem with it was, so very hard to get up in morning!!! The only change I would make is to mark the entry keys, so you know which one goes to which door but really do big deal. Truly a place to love and enjoy!
We have been renting VRBO properties for a number of years, Rock Lobster has been our best vacation! The property is well appointed and has everything you need. We spent the majority of our time at the Tiki Hut, fantastic when the underwater lights come on, your personal aquarium as the fish gather in the light... We had our meals outside in the hut... quiet and relaxing. Key Colony facilities just super, the pool at the ocean club is just around the corner. I brought my new skiff down, the dock is super nice with everything a fisherman needs. Cruising the canals is nice too. We have booked 2 weeks next October, this will be our permanent vacation spot. The owner should consider professional interior design as the property has such lovely appointments... This is not your run of the mill vacation property, very special in all categories. Capt. Ron
Key Colony Beach is its own City located in the town of Marathon. It is essentially an island with our own Police, Marine Patrol, City Hall and Post Office. Key Colony also has its own Marina with Deep Sea Fishing Charter Boats, Boat Rentals and Dive Boat Charters. This property has access to the Cabana Club. The private Club has a large pool and beautiful powder white beach with cocktail and food service provided. You are within walking distance to 3 fantastic restaurants, 2 are waterfront and one is right across the street from us on the golf course. Many amenities are available to our guests such as tennis courts, playground, open water viewing pier and golf course.
