The roomy guest flat in a pretty, gated villa, set on an acre with abundant flowers and olive, chestnut and cherry trees, offers magnificent views of Italy's cleanest and safest lake (no motorboats--only sailing). Free wi-fi internet connection. The master bedroom has an alcove suitable for a crib while two can sleep in the 40-sq-m living room on futon and sofa. Its adjacent bed-sitter has twin beds and ample bathroom (discount if only one bedroom is needed). The small kitchen is well equipped. Child-friendly home, and a discount for the handicapped. But dog-haters beware: we have two friendly dogs, a sort-of lab and a sort-of mini-pinscher. Parking inside the locked gate. The picturesque village a 15-minute downhill walk is a favourite for Romans for weekends and weddings. The charming village of Trevignano traces its roots to the ancient Etruscan before it was occupied by the Romans and became an Orsini property in the Middle ages. Besides the lake (5' by car), swimming in the sea is 40' away at Santa Marinella.
Visit Rome in the morning, swim in the afternoon, and by evening, enjoy the scores of restaurants surrounding Lake Bracciano, a favorite resort for Romans and tourists. The picturesque village boasts a dozen restaurants (more in the other two lake towns, Anguillara and Bracciano, the castle town where Tom Cruise was married). Friday is market day, for local cheeses and vegetables and fruit, and bargains in clothing; a crafts market is held alternate Sundays on the lake front. Shops offer locally-made take-out pastas, meat dishes, local lake fish and the delicious, inexpensive local wine. From the village explore not only Rome, but also Orvieto, Tarquinia, Spoleto, Tivoli, Caprarola (famed for its historic garden), ancient Ostia and Hadrian's Villa. Windsurfing and sailing lessons available. A microclimate keeps the weather mild; July temperatures may reach 33 degrees but nights are cool. In cool weather, two lovely open-air spas with naturally hot water are 30-40 minutes distant.
