Photos and Description of the Alma vacation house rental
4 Bedrm/3 Bath Custom Vacation Cabin Near Breck & Fairplay

Robin's Nest is a gorgeous 4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom custom vacation home located in a secluded area of Valley of the Sun. The home sits on a heavily wooded property with gorgeous mountain views. Robin's Nest is truly at the top of the mountain with views that extend for miles and miles.

If you love the outdoors, you may enjoy many activities without having to go too far...grab the snow shoes or your cross-country skiis and take a walk in the woods behind the house; hike the Pike National Forest right from the back yard; go fly-fishing in many of the lakes and streams nearby (Fairplay is known as the 'Fly-Fishing Capital of Colorado'); or access world-class ski slopes in Breckenridge just a 25 mile drive away.

On the main level of the home is the spacious great room. It has two-story windows that let in lots of light and frame the beautiful views of the mountains to the SE. It has seating for several people with two couches. The kitchen is located just off of the great room and is beautifully appointed with new appliances and lots of counter space. It has every amenity you will need for your stay. The dining area has a big table that seats 6-8 adults. It is also a great place to get together for a game of cards or to put together a jig-saw puzzle. Also on the main level are two bedrooms, both with queen beds, and a full bath.

Upstairs, there is a master loft with a queen size bed, a large walk-in closet, and a private bath with huge walk-in shower. There is lots of room and great views of the mountains from the two story windows.

Downstairs, the windows line the entire length of the room and provide great views of the mountains. There is outdoor access from this level, where you may step outside with the snow shoes for a walk in the woods, or come in from a long day of skiing and rest your skiis or snowboard on the rack in this room. There is a huge game room with a foosball table, puzzles and games, two couches, and a TV with DVD and Play Station. Satellite TV is provided. Also on this level is a full bath and a fourth bedroom that has two twin beds. There is a full size futon bed in the game room for additional guests.

Outside on the deck, there are two patio sets where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the views or watching for moose. There is a family of 5 moose that frequent the area and have been spotted by many families.

About Shelley White-Corey

Steve and I live in Texas. We have six children and five grandchildren (so far). Our kids and grand kids are spread from coast to coast, and several places in between!

Shelley White-Corey purchased this house in 2012
Why Shelley White-Corey chose Alma

Since our family is spread all over the country, we wanted a place in a serene location where we could congregate and enjoy each other's company. We chose Fairplay, Colorado for its beautiful mountains, proximity to Breckenridge and central U.S. location.

What makes this house unique

If you want to be close to skiing and numerous other activities, yet at the same time really 'get away', you will appreciate this home as we do!

What a marvelous week we had!

This house has all the comforts of home, without all the distractions. The view from the house is absolutely stunning. The upstairs master loft has a Select Comfort bed, a luxurious bathroom with double sinks, & huge closet. It was marvelous to sleep with the windows open, listening to the silence of the mountain. We also spent one night in one of the bedrooms on the main floor with a futon-style mattress that was also very comfortable. All the supplies were right at hand for a roaring fire that we enjoyed on a rainy July 4th! Most mornings we took our coffee downstairs to the game/family room, which would be a great hangout for kids, with internet, Direct TV, & games of various sorts.

Our agenda was to rest and relax, and we did plenty of that, but did go out each day for some activity.

Fairplay is a friendly, quiet small town. The evening we arrived, we had dinner in town at the South Park Steakhouse. It was marvelous, reasonably priced, & the staff gave us good local information. A couple of days we had thoroughly enjoyable breakfasts at the Brown Burro Cafe. The rest of the time we ate at home in the amply equipped kitchen. Plan to do your grocery shopping early, as the stores close at 8pm.

We stopped by the South Park Ranger Station for a map and suggestions for drives, hikes, & fishing. On their suggestion, we drove to Como and across the Boreas Pass to Breckenridge. A gorgeous drive! Breck is lovely, but bustling, and we were happy to get back to the quiet of Fairplay & our mountain retreat. We bought fishing gear & licenses at the small sporting goods store in town, and headed up to Jefferson Lake, where we caught rainbow and lake trout for dinner. If you are not into fishing, you can walk all the way around Jefferson Lake - the scenery alone is well worth the drive & the $5 park day use fee. Fairplay itself has a "beach" where you can fish & pan for gold (inexpensive permits required). We also enjoyed touring South Park city, a recreated 1880's mining town.

We are already making plans to come back, whether alone, with our adult children, or with friends. The house is at 10,000 feet, so definitely heed the suggestions avoid alcohol, & drink LOTS of water (by the way, the water out of the fridge door is delicious - no need for bottled!)

Awesome Place

Lovely, roomy vacation home off Hwy 9 near Fairplay. Great views and close to hiking, skiing and sight-seeing. Lots of nearby things to explore and there are reasonable restaurants close by in Alma and Fairplay. It's a bit of a hike (45 minutes) to Summit County for skiing but still close enough for a leisurely breakfast and to hit the slopes by 9. We hope to be back soon.

Wow! Beautiful home in the mountains with spectacular views, beautiful sunrises and sunsets and abundant wild life to view. A very comfortable home with everything you need. So much to see in the South Park City area. We totally enjoyed the great outdoors! All four of us attempted Mount Sherman and three of us made it :-). The altitude was too much for me. But I was kept busy with my camera lens and taking awesome photos. Jefferson Lake is beautiful! A great hike around the lake. Next time we will go fishing and maybe learn to fly fish. We visited AOB (Alma's only bar). Locals were very friendly. We visited Almart which is a store with many hiking needs and some groceries. This is where I would purchase MOXI for altitude adjustment if you need it. We totally enjoyed walking around South Park City and shopping. We purchased some nice gifts by local artisans. We enjoyed several area restaurants, The Brown Burro Cafe, Millanzos and South Park Steak House. All were very good, but South Park Steak House was GREAT!!!! Breckenridge is nearby and we made two trips to town. We did sight seeing along the way. Several walks around the mountain looking at all of the homes and beautiful views of the Mosquito Mountains.

Robin's Nest is a beautiful mountain home I would recommend to anyone. The home is very comfortable and has some of the best views I have ever seen from the time you open your eyes in the morning until you go to bed at night. We enjoyed beautiful weather our five day stay. (wish our stay was longer). Next time maybe two weeks. :-)

Little bits of advice related to our stay, soak it all up the beauty and activities are there waiting for you!

Until next time Robin's Nest :-)
