Overview

Lake Nantahala Lodge Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath log home with stunning lake views

This winter and spring we are offering a special 2 night 3 day stay at the Three Bear Lodge for two for $399 including cleaning fees! Be sure to ask for more information (normal rates apply for Valentines).

Three Bear Lodge is our dream, and we are excited to share it with you. The views from the over 1000sq/ft of covered porches and decks are the best the lake has to offer. Rustic Elegance is what we were going for, and the peace and serenity that you will enjoy is exceptional. The screened porch is attached to the lodge, and you can enjoy the view while taking in a roaring fire in the outdoor fireplace—call it your place to get away from it all. Everything was designed to make you feel at home, including the custom kitchen with commercial gas range and copper sink.

The cabin was finished on December 23, 2007—and is named after our ‘children’ - Ben (Teddy Bear), Zee (Honey Bear), and Yogi Bear...now you know where the name came from! Local craftsmen from the area made everything from the cabinets to the unique railings that don’t block the view. Their commitment to quality is seen throughout.

The cabin’s theme was based on the four seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall), which you can enjoy when your enter each bedroom. The Winter Bunkroom is our favorite, we are sure that your guests will think so too!

Beautiful and un-crowded, Lake Nantahala is ideal for boating, fishing, skiing, and canoeing.

Your stay will certainly be one that is ‘out of the ordinary’. The Nantahala Gorge offers first class white water rafting and paddling, fly fishing, and a multitude of other activities.

About Darren

I've been coming up to this area for 14 years and simply fell in love with the mountains - it simply amazes me. Fly fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, hiking the AT, and enjoying friends…can there be anything better than that!

Darren purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Darren chose Lake Nantahala

This was a lifelong dream and I was fortunate to be able to find the property, design the cabin, and actually do some of the work myself. The tile work, hardwood floors, stone, and painting and staining were all done by me and my family.

What makes this lodge unique

The 3 Bear just makes people happy - try it and see for yourself!

Amazing Thanksgiving Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family of six as well as my sister in law and her children just stayed in this cabin over the Thanksgiving holidays. The experience was pleasant and dealing with the owner was one of the best attributes to staying in this cabin. The cabin itself has everything you need and the views of the lake are amazing. We arrived the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and were lucky enough to get about an inch of snow that night, a few of the Florida girls with us had never seen actual snow falling. Waking up Thankgiving morning with everything covered in white was just awesome. There are many things to do in the area and all we did was mostly hike down in the Gorge and play at several different waterfalls. If you are into fishing, we saw several groups of people fly fishing all three days that we went our and explored. We hope to come back in the summer to be able to enjoy the lake, it was very cold while we stayed at the cabin. Also if you are looking to come here in the summer, there are several rafting and kayaking companies nearby and the river looks fantastic. This is the perfect place to just do nothing at all...relax on the porch and take in the unbelievable views of natures beauty.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this lake home retreat. The owner provides excellent instructions upon arrival and departing. The house has unbelievable views of the mountains and the lake. We enjoyed having our morning coffee while rocking on the front porch. The owners is also very thoughtful and has supplied several board games and vintage toy/games. Our kids loved them all and were entertained in the evenings because we take a way all electronics when we vacation. We love this lake for the pristine waters and the outdoor activities it provides. Our daughter (age 8) learned to water ski on this lake last year. It's not a very crowded lake and I feel very safe while letting my kids tube and ski. The hiking is wonderful in the area (definitely do the waterfall hike) and we always take a few rafting trips down the Nantahala river. I would highly recommend this house and area for an active family. It's not an area for couch dwellers.

Owner's Response: Ashley - glad the vacation went so well! If you haven't tried it yet the hike up to Tellico Gap is fantastic - it ends with a 3 story fire tower and a 360 degree view of the mountains. Well worth the hike on the AT!

Wow! What an incredible vacation!

  • 5 of 5

In the midst of chaos and crisis, our family was able to enjoy 3 Bear Lodge to the fullest. Darren has built the perfect place for the perfect view of God's magnificent creation. Vacations are meant to be an escape and that's exactly what we had on Lake Nantahala. The area is serene and quiet, and 3 Bear is equipped with everything that we needed to recharge and refresh. Amazing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took our 5 year old twins to the mountains for our first Thanksgiving away from home and we couldn't have choose a better place to stay! The house is amazing with everything I needed to cook my first Thanksgiving dinner. There were tons of games and of course the pool table to keep my husband and the boys entertained. We have rented many times from VRBO but we have never had such a great experience with an owner! Darryn was always available to answer any questions we had before and during our stay! If I sent him an email he always responded within less than 5 minutes! He did anything and everything he could to make sure our stay in his home was nothing but relaxing and stress free. He made us feel like we were friends of his borrowing his house for the week! I hope we can make it make in warmer weather so we can enjoy the lake!

Magnificent Lake Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the 3 Bear Lodge for a wonderful week with our family. Upon arrival, Darin met us and gave us the grand tour. He went above and beyond making our stay perfect in every way. He is very responsive and even answered emails during our stay about where to find the waterfall hiking trail. The house was professionally decorated and immaculate. As someone else stated, the pictures don't do it justice. The view is absolutely breath-taking! We loved sitting out on the porch in the rocking chairs just taking it all in. The home is super comfortable and has everything you need. The kitchen has top of the line appliances and is well-stocked. We enjoyed making meals together and spending quality time as a family. We spent every day on the lake tubing and skiing. We also went hiking to the trails nearby and white water rafting at the NOC down the Nantahala River which we highly recommend. We also recommend the Lakes End Marina Restaurant for delicious casual dining on the lake. This was a perfect family vacation and we plan on staying at the 3 Bear again!

3 Bear Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation at 3 Bear Lodge was simpy wonderful. The home was inviting, clean, and well maintained. Darren the owner is absolutely a gem to work with. Quite honestly, in all of my vacations, I have never been so pleased in dealing with someone as I was with him. He answered every question within minutes, gave exact details, and made you feel as if you had known each other for years. We vacationed with several other individuals and the accommodations were comfortable for all of us. The view from 3 Bear Lodge is nothing less than a postcard! It truly is breathtaking. Whitewater rafting is a must, and renting a boat is well worth the money. From rope swings to waterfalls, to swimming in a crystal clear lake, smores on the outside/inside porch, and hiking the trails, there is more than enough to keep you busy. It is secluded, so keep that in mind when booking. However, there are cities within an hour or so that provide plenty of this if interested. The 3 Bear Lodge environment is a setting fit for young children, teenagers, and adults that allows you to have a relaxing laid back attitude. Truly enjoyable!
