Our cozy cottage in the coastal Mendocino redwoods is the perfect place for a personal retreat or private getaway.
The cottage features:
Main room with beautiful vintage wooden double bed, futon couch, comfortable reading chair, good lighting, desk and dining/art table, and lovely views through the many windows of forests dappled with sunshine or glistening from the morning dew.
Separate small and well-equipped kitchen stocked with basic cooking staples so you can stay tucked in on your first morning; supplies include milk, butter, yogurt, eggs, coffee, tea, and spices.
Bathroom with deep claw-foot tub overlooking gardens and forest of oaks, redwoods, rhododendrons and huckleberries; outdoor shower is secluded on the west-facing deck. Mendocino is a romantic and historic village perched along the cliffs of northern California, surrounded by Big River Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Big River Ridge Cottage, just a seven minute drive east of Mendocino village, is uniquely situated on the ridge above Big River, in a magnificent redwood forest in the sun-belt, surrounded by Jackson State Forest and Big River State Park.
In an easygoing and comfortable atmosphere, guests can enjoy reading, writing, artwork, and board games, relax on the decks, and enjoy views of sunset skies through the majestic redwoods.
My husband and I have stayed at the Big River Ridge Cottage many, many times over the years. Why do we keep returning? This cottage is pure magic. It is nestled in the middle of a magnificent redwood forest that offers absolute privacy as well as immense peace. It is a perfect, beautiful cabin for an inspired retreat, celebration, or for blissful relaxation and renewal. A couple of lovely trails wind through redwoods, ferns, a pygmy forest, and down to the river. After a walk, we grill our salmon on the deck and take a refreshing outdoor shower or hot steamy bath. It just doesn't get better than this!
Quiet, cozy, snug little cabin that provided much needed respite from city noise. Along with a beautiful setting are lovely details--tea light candles, great coffee, cut flowers, and, one of my favorite parts, a claw foot tub with a view of redwoods.
This review has been a long time coming. My wife and I celebrated our first anniversary this past June and stayed at this cottage. We LOVED our experience here and in Mendocino in general. The cottage was so thoughtfully appointed with bath salts, cozy towels and robes, flip flops for the outdoor shower (my favorite!), and all of our requested breakfast items. Added touches of locally produced butter and jams and flowers picked from the property and placed inside and outside the cottage really took it to the next level. The owners were extremely helpful in answering any questions and were respectful of our privacy while being available for anything that we might need. This cottage was perfectly secluded, quiet and quaint, and we've already recommended it to all of our friends and colleagues. Downtown Mendocino is only 3 miles away, and we highly recommend utilizing their local farmers market if you plan to cook any meals at the cottage. We had several meals in and around the village, but the best meal we had (food and atmosphere) was at The Maccallum House. One last thank you for an amazing stay!!
My fiancé, our dog, and I spent an amazing weekend here. We were looking for a cozy, isolated cottage where we could unplug and relax. Big River Ridge delivered. Weekend activities included hiking, mountain biking, cooking, reading, board games, sipping wine on the porch, showering in the outdoor shower, and enjoying time together without being interrupted by phones or emails. We left feeling truly refreshed. I hope we are able to return someday soon.
My husband and I, along with our 3 year old son stayed here over the weekend while attending a wedding in the hills. This cabin was perfect. It was so quiet and absolutely peaceful. Complete relaxation. I could sit and read on the sun-filled deck while my husband and son explored on the trails. The outdoor shower is invigorating and my son had a ball showering! The bed was incredibly comfortable. This cabin is very cozy and comfortable. Very delightful and I hope to be back sooner rather than later!! Thank you Linda!!
This forest retreat is a hidden gem in the woods just 10 minutes outside downtown Mendocino. My husband and I loved our stay here...the cabin was so charming; lovingly furnished with antiques, an incredibly comfortable bed, lots of big windows to let in the light and a wonderful selection of books in case you forgot to bring your own! The innkeeper made sure everything we needed was right here...lovely attention to every detail for our stay, including a small kitchen stocked with food for breakfast or snacks such as fruit, home-made granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea to name just a few. The ample ambient lighting is perfect for snuggling up with a good book in the comfy overstuffed chair and the gas fireplace kept us warm and cozy and encouraged us to stay in bed in the morning a little longer than usual. There are some beautiful hikes right out the front door, and the peace and quiet of this place makes us want to keep coming back, again and again. Thank you Linda!!
