Secluded retreat in the redwoods!

We have stayed in Big River Cottage several times, the most recent of which was August 2012. Each visit has been absolutely wonderful! The cottage is incredibly private: it is surrounded on all sides by redwood trees. The wrap-around deck is particularly wonderful during the Summer, as the cottage is slightly removed from the fog belt and is thus often sunny and warm. Two of my favorite things about the cottage are the outdoor shower and claw-foot tub in the bathroom. I also love the gas stove, which is cozy and warm, without the hassle of firewood, etc! We've always found the interior to be very tastefully furnished/decorated: warm colors, amazingly comfortable bed, relaxing sofa. The kitchen is quite small, but fully functional: we've cooked several delicious dinners there (it is also well stocked with pots and pans, etc.) The breakfast provided was delicious--there was also ample supply of coffee and tea! The innkeeper/owner is absolutely lovely and has always been eager to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I cannot recommend it enough! Whether you are coming to Mendocino to escape for the weekend, or explore the town and natural beauty of the area, it's absolutely perfect! I only wish we lived closer so that we could escape more often!
