Hudson is one of the best architecturally preserved cities in the country while remaining a real-life city where people go about their work. But in Hudson the work is often more intriguing… and there are loads of jewelry makers and stores, Antiques stores, Home furnishings and accessories, art galleries, outlets for the local farm-to-table movement, gourmet groceries; excellent restaurants; music, theater, and art Galleries.

There are three wonderful cats in the artist studio on the ground floor – just a heads-up in case you’re allergic.

Beautiful loft!

We ( my husband, myself, our daughter and son-in-law and 2 1/2 year old granddaughter ) stayed here while attending our other daughter's wedding. Gorgeous area and the pictures do not do the loft justice. I'm picky about hotels and this is the first VRBO property we have stayed in, but I was extremely happy. It was spotless. The owner was very good about recommending things. I needed someone to supply cheese platters for 80 and he connected me with a marvelous person. Don't miss her store....Olde Hudson... it's fabulous. He was also very kind. Our granddaughter loves jumping and running; we apologized, but he his only comment was, " isn't that what 2 year olds do?". I highly recommend this property.

NYC charm in Hudson Valley

  • 4 of 5
I came up to the loft with a group of friends to celebrate a bachelorette weekend and we couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. The loft felt like a chic home in downtown Manhattan (the type of home we all wish we owned, but could never afford in a trendy neighborhood!) We had six girls in our group and everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. There was plenty of space in the loft to relax, hangout, and enjoy the company. The decor and ambiance of the space was top-notch. Our only slight complaint was that we rented the loft for the weekend because we wanted to use all the amenities that a loft/house-rental offered, which included the full kitchen. The owner has a funny rule that if you want to use the gas stove/oven, you must request it in writing and pay an additional fee ($100+) to use it. We had brought lots of groceries and it would have been nice to make eggs or quiche for breakfast, but we stuck to toast and fruit, since we couldn't maximize all the utilities of the kitchen. (Also, there is no microwave.) So if you're planning to cook, make sure you check the fine print. The owner of the loft does live/work on premise, so if you have any questions or concerns, he's right there to assist. He also has a few deals with local restaurants and if you mention his name, they'll give you a discount on your bill. Parking is easily accessible (and free) just outside. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great getaway weekend with friends.

Nice loft but not worth the hassle

  • 2 of 5
Stayed in Hudson for a girls weekend celebrating a friend's wedding.

Pros
• Loft centrally located on main street - convenient to shops, restaurants, etc.
• Loft was clean.
• Nice space - spacious, hardwood floors, queen beds are comfortable, nice linens/towels.

Cons
• Disrespectful owner - lives on the first floor and oversaw our comings and goings. Inappropriately intruded to the second floor of loft when we there. Yelled at one of our female guests.
• Very hot - A/C in 3rd floor bedroom did not work and a majority of windows did not have screens. 3rd floor bedrooms are very hot.
• BEWARE - All amenities not included. Owner charges $150 extra for use of stove if staying less than two weeks. In addition, cannot use washer/dryer.
• No centrally accessible bathroom - both bathrooms accessible through bedrooms only.
• "King" bed is actually two cots pushed together. Second night one of the cots broke and was not useable.
• Confusing rates - changeable at owner's will.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry that Shiloh did not enjoy her stay at my property - and surprised - as the other guest said just the opposite as they were leaving. To address her complaints - The "trundle bed " apparently had not been properly attached, and when it was brought to my attention - after the first night - I offered to attend to it - but she preferred for me not to go upstairs, and said that she would fix it. Since the whole house is central air conditioned - and it was working - with no other complaints - I'm confused as to her saying it was not working?? As for me being "disrespectful" and "yelling at a guest" I am totally at a lose. I don't yell at guests - It did not happen - I'm also at a loss trying to understand this review. I think the other reviews on this property speak to my property and my interaction with my guests. As far as the Rates are concerned - they are clearly stated in the link to my space on this web-site, and are not "confusing - or "changeable at owner's will". I just wish Shiloh would have brought her concerns to me in person - While I live on the first floor - I do not "oversee comings and goings" - but I am available - and if there was a problem would have been more than happy to fix it.

Has it all

We rented the loft for the weekend for a wedding in town. It was more than comfortable for 7 of us. The living room space was great for all of us to hang out; very comfortable with great decor. The location is amazing - close to everything you could need in downtown Hudson!

Very Nice

  • 4 of 5
It's a very nice house. we especially appreciated the proximity to the town. Just walk out your door and there are several shops and restaurants. We had rain and cold both day so we didn;t get out much. The house has lovely details that I appreciated and lots of interesting objects of art and Americana without being tacky or pretentious. We had a lovely stay. We had 2 couples one with a newborn baby and our daughter (2 years old) She ran around alot and that likely disturbed the owner who lives/works downstairs, but he was gracious and didn't complain about it. We only occupied two of the three bedrooms which was nice because one of the bedrooms on the top floor does not have a proper door you can close. Instead it has a large partition screen. It gave privacy from sight, but not much from sound. One thing that was unconventional was that you have to pay a significant additional cleaning fee if you want to prepare food in the kitchen. I thought should have been included in the rental price. Another thing that was untypical if that when you confirm the payment, at the time of online checkout for the rental costs you are automatically required to pay an additional fee for rental insurance. I suggested that the owner take a security deposit check from us, that he could return at the end of the stay if there where no damages. He was ok with this and it worked out fine. I'm not sure why the owner doesn't maintain his own insurance rather than pass on an insurance fee to renters who must pay for damages they will likely not commit. On the plus side, Roy (owner) was kind and hospitable and brought us fresh croissants and jam early each morning. What a nice amenity. Overall a recommended venue in a great location. I would go back again.
