Breaking News.. We just enclosed the front porch making this more private and bug free. Perfect hillside hideaway to get away from it all.
This airy bedroom suite is naturally ventilated with fans and is not equipped with air conditioning.
The suite contains a queen size bed, efficiency kitchen, Jacuzzi tub, sun deck with adjoining covered veranda to 'chill out' and watch the boats in the harbor.
Paul and Judy met in 1973 and have been going strong ever since. After moving to 'the islands' in 1986 to run a 76' wooden ketch they stayed active in the marine trades for twenty four years. In that time Paul, a woodworker and carpenter, and Judy, the interior decorator and landscape architect, took ten years to build the Century House Villa and Crows Nest Guest house. This labor of love was designed by Michael Arneborg a prolific architect for the area. The Crows Nest was meant to be the 'rental we would want to discover for our own' Paul and Judy will bid you a warm welcome and will give you as much or as little advice as you need as you discover 'natures little secret' BVI Tourist Board.
Judith A. Carrell purchased this cottage in 1989
Boungainvilleas, Palm trees, Frangipani, and stonework frame the water views from your verandah overlooking Sir Frances Drakes Channel.
Watching the sunrise over Sir Frances Drakes Channel while planning your day and futures while savoring morning coffee and tea in the hot tub.
Seeing a 43 meter megayacht dock at the marinas down below.
Having a 'sun downer' from the newly enclosed, veranda while seeing the evening sky descend around you.
Catching a meteor shower while viewing the Milky Way.
Paul and Judy- we were so glad to have rented the Crows Nest from you.
Perfect for a romantic couple getaway. We will forever remember the
breath-taking view of the harbor from our porch. We really appreciated
all of the thoughtful and convenient touches the Crows Nest offered
us.The only problem was when we had to leave. Hope to come again.Bill and Pam
The Crow's Nest is a little jewel in the Caribbean. We spent three wonderful weeks here. The cottage is beautiful and immaculately clean. The cottage sits high on a hill and overlooks a gorgeous marina where yachts, clipper ships and large sailboats wander in and out daily. The sky at night is spectacular...you feel like you can touch the stars as you sit on the deck or relax in the hot tub. The cottage is also very close to lovely beaches (Smuggler's Cove, just over the hill, was our favorite). Also close and convenient are a nice grocery store, good restaurants, Jerry's rental car office, and the West End ferry terminal. We explored the entire island and will definitely stay here again...the best location. The nicest part of the stay was getting to know the wonderful people who own the cottage, Paul and Judy. We felt so welcome from the first day to the last. They did everything possible to make our visit pleasant. Just a few of the details we appreciated were lovely bathrobes, wine on arrival and fresh flowers throughout our stay from Judy's spectacular tropical gardens. This is truly an island paradise! They also have a charming little dog (Doodle) who gave us plenty of laughs. This was a fabulous trip that we will never forget.
What an incredible experience we had at Crows Nest. Paul & Judy are the epitome of gracious hosts.
Prior to our visit, Judy helped us coordinate the best place to get a rental car, and recommended a number of great places to go for dinner/drinks/excursions. She answered emails quickly and when we needed to change a date for our arrival, she was completely accommodating.
Upon arrival, the place was spotless. Paul took the time to show us everything - what sockets/switches did what, where everything was that we would need, how to use various equipment, etc.
The location was incredible. The outdoor shower was amazing, as was the hot tub. It was such a haven for my fiance and I. Did I mention....we got engaged in the Crows Nest under a starry night on the beautiful screened-in porch!!
Easy to get to from the ferry, and right across the hill from Sopers Hole, so you have several great options every day for whatever you want to do. An easy drive to tons of other places as well. Did I mention the view?!
The adorable cottage has everything we were looking for - we could cook our own meals (grocery store is a short ride away), the screened in porch was the perfect place to enjoy a bug-free meal outside of the bedroom, Paul & Judy included a number of tasty little food items and drinks that we took advantage of. The bathroom had better/much more extensive amenities than you'd find at a nice hotel. The kitchen was fully stocked with the stuff you'd need to cook anything. They also provided towels, snorkel gear, a bug zapper (which my fiance LOVED), clean linens, ample storage space for longer stays, beach chairs....I could go on and on.
Beyond that, Paul and Judy were just an absolute pleasure. My fiance and I spend a ton of time researching each year for our "one special trip" and look for places that are very special and unique, but don't break the bank. Crows Nest is exceptional in this way. You can really feel how much Judy & Paul love this place and have poured their time and love into building and maintaining it. For us, thats really important. We actually spent one evening down at the main house having drinks with them and a friend - what a wonderful night! It was great getting to know our wonderful hosts. Did I mention DOODLE?? We loved that little pup!
I guess what stood out to us the most (and what we really appreciated) were all the special touches - we are already planning when we can come back again. Could not recommend more!
My stay at the Crow's Nest was perfect in every way! The Nest itself has everything you need for a home away from home. Waking up to the views out of the windows was simply amazing every morning and sitting on the deck or eating supper in the screened in porch was wonderful every night! The location is also perfect with amenities at Soper's Hole just down the hill and beautiful beaches only a short drive away "over the hill" on the other side of the island. (Try walking around the west tip to Smugglers...a perfect way to start your day:). I can't say enough about Paul and Judy as hosts. They are simply wonderful, amazing people. Helpful and friendly and welcoming. I felt as though I was staying with lifelong friends! If you are looking for the perfect spot to either completely get away from it all for your whole trip or to just be able to get away from it all after a day of discovering Tortola and the surrounding islands, the Crow's Nest is the perfect choice. I'm sure this will not be my only time visiting!
The Crow's Nest is awesome! Paul and Judy are such great hosts - we felt totally at home in their cottage. We enjoyed our coffee every morning on the deck overlooking the marina with all the fabulous boats! We came to Tortola to unwind and that's exactly what we did - exploring the island in our jeep from Jerry's rental (great to work with by the way), Smuggler's Cove, and Sebastian's on the beach for lunch and dinner. A day trip to Virgin Gorda is an absolute must! We highly recommend this property!
We stayed for 5 nights at Judy and Paul's VRBO in October. The listing description and photos were accurate but the view is even better in person! The property had everything and more than you could possibly need while on vacation. It had suncream, mosquito repellant, shampoos, soap, body wash etc. But was also so kindly stocked by Paul and Judy with coffee, nibbles, milk, pancake mix, cereal, cold drinks, cheese, crackers, etc. And even loads of extras like candles, (and a citronella candle) DVD's, etc. that make you feel truly at home and completely relaxed from the moment you arrive. The bed is so very comfortable and the linen was lovely. The property was so clean and very well maintained and both Paul and Judy were so helpful with everything. They were the perfect VRBO hosts. There was a water filter in the kitchen and coffee machine. (Bonus!!) The place has privacy, (due to the way it is positioned on the hill) So, the outdoor shower and hot tub are lovely to enjoy and you feel like you are a million miles away! There was wifi, many channels on the TV, newly purchased and fresh towels, beach chairs, and Paul and Judy provided loads of information for islands, ferries, and hot spots. They are fantastic hosts!!! And we highly recommend this vrbo.
We have been down to Tortola many times before but this was one of the best. Paul and Judy were lovely hosts. The Crow's Nest was a perfect home base. The days were spent at smugglers cove just over the hill. Evenings were spent enjoying cocktails on the deck while the sun set before we headed to nearby restaurants (Fish & Lime is just down the hill). We are a young active couple and where able to easily access all the hiking, surfing, and fishing Tortola has to offer.
The Crows Nest Guest House is located in a tropical landscape setting adjacent to and slightly higher then the Century House Villa which overlooks Sopers Hole, West End, a natural harbor and anchorage for many private and charter boats for the BVI's.
We recommend guests fly into St. Thomas USVI and take the ferry over to West End, Tortola. Make sure to arrive in STT by 3:00 pm to make the connection.
