“Sandpiper” is a charming artist owned two-storey, 2/2 cottage with it's own deep water dock and whose large front porch hangs directly over the celadon waters of the Sea of Abaco! To the back of the cottage are the beautiful White Sound beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. The home will sleep 4 to 6 people very comfortably and has recently been repainted, reupholstered and decorated with the island-inspired art of it's artist owners.
The large loft style master bedroom suite is upstairs and has cathedral ceilings, a king size bed, two twin beds, an office space and sliders to a small balcony overlooking the sound. There is an en suite bathroom with shower and double sinks as well as a large closet and several bureaus.
The downstairs guest room also has high ceilings, a queen size bed, sliders that open onto the front porch and dock and has an additional private entrance from the rear patio. It has a small en suite bathroom with a shower. Both bedrooms have AC and all the rooms in the house have ceiling fans and views of the Sea of Abaco.
The kitchen comes well equipped with any and all needed dishes, pots and pans for cooking and baking as the owners love to cook. There is a lovely new glass and shell back splash recently made by the owner and a combination washing machine and dryer behind the bi fold doors next to the pantry. There is a large eat at counter/island as well as a dining room table.
The delightful sunken living room also has high cathedral ceilings, sliders out to the front porch and dock and a large flat screen TV. You will find plenty of books and games for those lazy afternoons on the front porch. Wifi is also available. All linens are provided including beach towels.
Just across the road is the Abaco Inn, a favorite among locals for its happy hour, pool, restaurant and decks that face both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic. Sea Spray Marina with its restaurant and bar are just a short walk down the road. Our caretaker will meet you at your arranged ferry arrival time from Marsh Harbour and transport you to “Sandpiper”. Rentals of golf carts, boats, fishing charters and dive and snorkel trips are available through multiple businesses on the island. Reservations are recommend for busy times of the year.
This wonderful cottage is as welcoming as the photos portray. My husband and I traveled with our three grown daughters (between the ages of 18-21) and every one of us was able to find their private space, when needed, in the home and the wifi supported all the necessary electronics. The water capacity also survived those 3 girls without a hint of it running low, which I have to say was a concern before we rented. Conveniently located close to the mouth of the harbor; the private dock, located right at the house, made our daily travels very convenient, not to mention how easy it was to carry our luggage and groceries in for the week. It was only a 15min golf cart ride to Hope Town to get Vernon’s bread(a daily staple) or a 5 min ride to Tahiti Beach. The ocean was just across the street and we got to see some professional surfers and spectacular sunrises. There are also two good restaurants located within walking distance if you don’t want to cook. This home has a great island feel, well stocked and nicely situated. Nothing beats the privacy of sitting on the dock enjoying your morning coffee or nightly beverage watching the sunset. The owner and the property’s caretaker were very prompt and helpful with any questions or needs, before, during and after our visit. I could go on and on as the overall experience was one of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend for a bit of paradise!
Sandpiper was the perfect vacation cottage for my group! The cottage is adorable - the photos are accurate. It has an island-y feel to it, which we really liked. We like to be active on the water when we visit Abaco, and the location and the deep water dock were great. I have stayed all over the cays, but this was my first time staying in White Sound. I really enjoyed the location - it was an easy golf cart ride anywhere we needed to go. The cottage is well equipped, we cooked in a few times and enjoyed having our morning coffee and afternoon cocktail hour out on the deck with that spectacular view. The caretaker Jamie was very responsive and made sure we had everything that we needed.
The Abaco Inn was one of our favorites and we visited multiple times, but we also went to Seaspray, Capn Jack's, Firefly, On da Beach, Harbour's Edge, and the Lodge. And Wine Down Sip Sip was fabulous also! I guess we hit every establishment on the island! :-)
The food markets are all well stocked, and if one doesn't have what you are looking for just try a different one. We found that we liked the small groceries on Elbow Cay better than the "big" store in Marsh Harbour, and it sure is easier to shop local than lug stuff over on the ferry.
We totally enjoyed our stay at Sandpiper, and we can't wait to go back again! Thanks Brian, Donna, and Jamie too!
Sandpiper is a charming house in an ideal location on Elbow Cay. The unique setting, literally on the water, is stunning. The pictures on the site are accurate and illustrate the feel of the house really well.
Both the owners and the caretaker were terrific and made the logistics easy for us to maximize our time on Elbow Cay. Being situated in the middle of the island provides multiple options in terms of beaches and restaurants.
This property offers anyone so much more than most rentals. Perfect view, all amenities,a dock for your boat, peace and quiet and a fabulous beach very close by. I could go on and on. Sandpiper was all the owner described with no surprises. Help form the owner and the property manager made our arrival and departure simple and easy.We would return in a heartbeat and hope to do so soon! Hoping you enjoy Sandpiper as much as we did.
We really enjoyed our stay at Sandpiper. It was a wonderful 9 days. The house is adorable and comfortable. The cross-ventilation was wonderful, and you can’t get any closer to the water! On a few occasions we did use the air-conditioning and they worked so well that the whole house cooled down. The well-equipped kitchen was a blessing for us as we both enjoy cooking. We bought hogfish off the boat on Friday and cooked it for 2 nights. It was one of the best fish we have ever tasted. We brought our metal detector so we spent most mornings combing the beaches, but came away with only 27 cents!! I, on the other hand, came back with some beautiful sea glass. You can walk to the beach access at Abaco Inn in 2 minutes! So convenient!
The owners were very helpful and always answered our questions before our trip. Jamie, the caretaker, did a great job. He was right there waiting for us as we got off the ferry, as was the golf cart that we rented for our time there. We did not rent a boat this time but will definitely do it the next time we are there. There was so much for us to do on the island that we didn’t feel the need to go elsewhere.
The house was perfect for the two of us. The views were incredible and the location was so convenient. Having The Foodstore literally around the corner was wonderful. We seemed to go there for one thing or another almost every day. We enjoyed eating at the Abaco Inn, Sea Spray, Water’s Edge and Firefly (our favorite). The home was so close to everything and if I had brought my walking shoes I would have had easy morning walks towards Tahiti Beach. We did lots of exploring in the golf cart and found the ride to Hopetown to be only 15 minutes! A wonderful place. Hope to return to Elbow Cay and Sandpiper Cottage sometime soon.
Very comfortable house! Lots of space! Clean and well equipped! Perfect location for those with boats!
