I grew up in Wichita Kansas but had my 2nd and 3rd birthday living here in Hawaii, so I always felt that I came home to my roots. I also have a home in town, Hawaii Kai and frequent back and forth to keep a good eye on my favorite house here on the wind ward side of north shore.
Patty purchased this house in 2004
We wanted the real Hawaii not so many visitors and getting to know what really living in Hawaii is all about here in Hauula.
Across the street from the ocean. Less than 50 steps to water and sand. Occasionally you will find sea shells in the front yard or a spray from the ocean breeze! You can actually wade out in front of this house to the reef. 'Once in a Life Time'
Just what we wanted for our Honeymoon !!!! Clean and in the country . Beach across street and toys were provided. Much fun will do again !!!
Great little house with a little corner view of the ocean. The house is located right next door to the renowned Hawaiian photographer Kim Taylor Reece's gallery and house. I'd definitely rent this place again.
My husband and I stayed for four days:
Good - The beach house was well stocked with lots of ocean toys. We both love to cook and found that the kitchen had pretty much everything one would need to prepare the delicious local food. The location was central to the North Shore and to Kailua. It was a cute place with loads of character.
Bad - construction on a new house directly behind the cabin was going on during our stay and we were not notified before hand. The hammering started at 7:30am in the morning...unacceptable.
While sleeping on our last night, the renters scheduled for the following day attempted to get into the house at midnight...while we were sleeping! They claimed they were told it was alright for them to arrive at that time...either way, a scary experience for us and too bad for them with no where to go. Lastly, after leaving the place spic and span we have still not received our damage deposit back...this is day 10 without our deposit back and contacting the owner has been virtually impossible. If you choose to stay here I would definitely address an appropriate time limit to receive the deposit back.
All in all, the good were good and the bad were, and continue to be, bad. Would we recommend this property to friends???...probably not. With the many choices out there, I would look elsewhere. Hope this helps.
After reviewing all the pictures and reading reviews, we decided to take a chance and booked Patty's summer house. Since this was our first time using the Home Away internet sites to arrange a vacation, we were not sure what to expect. Everything worked out well for us. The posted pictures are true likens of the place and comments suit the description well.
We arrived in Hawaii at the end of January and stayed for 10 days. It only rained on one day, but we traveled to other side of the island and had fun visiting the Dole and coffee plantations, then downtown Honolulu. The house itself is well stocked. The kitchen has more than enough dishes, cutlery, tea towels, and newer appliances. We are family of 5 with 3 teenagers and there was enough space for all of us. Most of the day we were out, but once at the house, we enjoyed watching TV, and reading some of the many books from the book shelf. My favorite part of stay was waking up in the morning to a beautiful mountain view and palm trees and hearing the ocean in the background. Then of course, having coffee on the back porch, listening to the birds chirping. The house also comes with 5-6 snorkeling sets, a boogie board and 2 kayaks, so our teenagers were never bored. Thanks Patty for renting out your beautiful house to us.
My wife and I spent a pleasant week in Patty's beach house in October. If you want an authentic north shore experience this is where you will find it. It's a cute little house right on the Kamehameha Hwy (83) so it is easy to find and close to everything you want to do including surfing, swimming, snorkeling, hiking and the Polynesian Cultural Center. There are reef-protected family beaches with picnic areas nearby and the big surf is around the point to the north. The house is decorated with an interesting array of art and knick-knacks and is fully equipped. (There was even a kitchen device for scraping the meat out of a coconut.) It's a house with a yard so you don't share walls with anyone! The washer and dryer allow you to pack a little lighter for a long visit. You get a beautiful mountain sunset out the back and you can see the ocean from the front porch. The neighbors are friendly. Patty was easy to communicate with and accommodated us when we arrived a day earlier than we thought we would. Groceries and supplies are available nearby.
- It's on a busy highway. Pull off on the shoulder, wait for the cars to clear and back in. That way it's less stressful to get back out on the road. And be careful if you walk across the road. It can be a bit noisy at night but it's not bad overall (and the noise is certainly balanced out by the proximity to the ocean!).
- The electrical service in the area tends to fluctuate, especially in storms and at night, which can be a bit surprising. That's a general problem in the area that you get used to.
We stayed in this home at the beginning of August, during Hurricane (Tropical Storm) Iselle and we had an amazing time. The house is beautifully decorated and the location is great. We loved the beaches of the North Shore and are glad we picked this home. It is well away from the touristy areas surrounding Waikiki. I strongly recommend staying here and my wife and I plan on returning as soon as we are able! Mahalo Patty for letting us stay in your beautiful home!!!
Polynesian Cultural Center is less than 2 miles away; Lot's of things to do in this area. Good local food nearby; The Mormon Temple about 3 miles up the street in Laie Turtle Bay 15 min. Pipeline & Sunset about 20 min.
