1900 CIRCA QUIRKY COTTAGE - NOTHING COOKIE CUTTER ABOUT THIS ONE

St. Michaels Cottage Rental Photos and Description

We love this cottages. Check out the views, the pool, the ping pong barn, the extra living space in the little swimmer's cottage, the decor, the outside deck, two docks, the amenity list goes on and on.

In Hawaiian, Kalohe means mischievous, rascal and naughty. Fitting term for this cottages as its casual decor speaks of the islands and a more playful vacation style. We love KK because there is no comparable. Private spaces in an adorable circa 1900 bungalow situated on over 4 expansive joined acres. Check out the views, the pool, the ping pong table game barn, the pool deck, screened porch, extra living space, the amusing decor, the outside deck. The amenity list goes on and on and on. The "Little Swimmers Cottage" is the second cottage which serves as a cabana for the outdoor living area. Take an island vacation without travelling overseas. Kamp Kolohe is what you are looking for on MDs Eastern Shore.

Reviewer Comments:
My family and I have had the pleasure of relaxing at Kamp Kalohe on several occasions. My children, now 15 and 13, love the place. They have a great time recreating on the water, "crabbing" off the dock, swimming in the pool, playing wiffleball and horseshoes. They also love that they can bring friends along and all sleep in the "bunkhouse". My wife and I love the fact that it is only 1.5 hours from DC, but feels like it is 1000 miles away. My wife also enjoys strolling through St. Michaels while I play the terrific Hogs Neck golf course just a few miles down the road. Nightly cookouts and an annual crabfeast are family favorites. Cant say enough good things about Kamp Kalohe. We highly recommend it!!

OKAY VISIT

Rating Details:
I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
I was very happy with the location.
The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.
The property manager was more than helpful.
Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:
The house was nice, it could have been cleaner. Bathroom floors were not clean. And the screened porch had not been cleaned in awhile. Hammock should have been kept inside, as it was stained and dirty. The pool could have been more enjoyable if it was in the sun. We did enjoy the yard, nice and big for the kids and dogs to play in. We had an experience with a bat in the guest house. This was reported on the phone and the rental company's app on Monday morning and not until a follow up call from me Monday afternoon was any action taken.

Manager responded on 9/9/2013:
Thank you for the thoughts and our pleasure to hit the porch with a good cleaning! One man's lack of sun can be another man's shaded delight so please let us know if your sunning has a preference and our reservation staff can certainly give you guidance on your next trip. Sorry about the bat visitor - the guest cottage is truly a "kampy" spot which is important for folks to understand in order to set expectations appropriately. Glad to hear the visitor found its way out. Hoping to see you again at one of our ESVR cottages in the future.

The property was nice but the landscaping needed a lot of TLC. Didn't look like anyone had done weeding all summer.

OUR FAMILY VACATION IN MARYLAND

I was more than happy with the location.

The property manager was very helpful.

Reviewer Comments:
The house is very nice but a bit more rural than I expected. The visits from local dogs and a few deer was wonderful. The visits from the pool repairman and the washer repairman and the furniture replacement guys not so much. I feel as we may have been the first guests so we got to find everything that didn't work properly and have it fixed for everyone else. One big problem was no internet access but it was listed in the welcome packet and very poor cell service. We did have a great time as a family and that is what matters.

Not too many crabs, but plenty of spiders. We especially liked the huge spider we named Charlotte by the pool. The blue tailed skinks were fun to watch, but the dead mouse in the cottage was not. Friendly neighborhood dogs came to visit, too.

During the War of 1812, St. Michaels gained its name as 'the town that fooled the British'. The residents of St. Michaels, having been forewarned that British barges were positioned on the waters to attack with cannon fire, hoisted lanterns into the trees above the city. This first successful 'blackout' fooled the British into overshooting the town's houses and shipyards. Only one house, forever since known as Cannonball House, was struck.

The industry was largely concentrated around shipbuilding and seafood packing, and there are several museums and cultural centers that nod to this heritage. However, today St. Michaels enjoys primarily a healthy tourism industry as guests come from far and near to enjoy all the wonderful things this charming town has to offer. Many will also recognize St. Michaels as the backdrop of several popular movies, including 'The Wedding Crashers'.
