The people are still working the land as their forefathers did since ancient times. Places Of Interest: The region has some astonishing natural highlights which include the Peneda-Geres National Park. Here in this area of outstanding natural beauty, you will find many rare animals and plants. Having once been the home of the brown bear and the mountain goat, Peneda-Geres is today one of the last refuges of the great predators, such as the wolf and the royal eagle. You will also see herds of wild Geres ponies and long-horn oxen roaming the countryside. It covers an area of 72,000 hectares and has an extraordinary diversity of climate, environmnents and scenery, comprising the transition zone between the Mediterranean and Euro-Siberian regions. An important feature of the landscape is the constant presence of water. Brooks and waterfalls are common at every mountain slope and the park is crossed by several rivers, namely: Cávado, Lima, Homem, Rabagão, Castro Laboreiro and Arado. You will come across many secluded natural pools of crystal clear water in which to take a well deserved dip.
Activities: Walk over miles of untouched countryside, try a dip in the many secluded river pools. Beautiful trails through the most glorious countryside, picnic by the river pools and enjoy a well earned dip in the clear, fresh mountain pools.
Cycle over the mountains, passing the grazing long horn cows and wild Geres horses. Pass the many shepherd's stone shelters,(have a look inside) still in use today then once over the mountain join the road and cycle back through the small villages and farms stopping off at cafes along the way for a thirst quenching drink and a smile from the locals.

For the young and adventurous walk down to the local river pool and dive off the huge high rocks into the deep water pools below before toasting yourself on the enormous surrounding rocks, then do it all again !

Also nearby there is quad bike experiences, white water rafting, kayaking, water skiing, surfing, horse riding, fishing, paint ball, archery and golf or maybe you want to have a go at harvesting the corn or picking the grapes.
This area is renouned for festas (traditional music,costumes,singing and dancing) throughout the season with fantastic fireworks day and night. There are also two local rock bands which are very good and play at many of the festas throughout the long summers.
The locals are very friendly and love to meet our guests as they pass tending their crops and animals.

Short 5 min drive to the stunning Peneda Geres National Park. Enjoy walking amongst the mountains totally away from it all on endless tracks passing many remote stone shelters where the shepherds slept while tending their livestock long ago. Stop for a picnic and watch the wild ponies and long horn cattle grazing nearby. You will probably see many birds of prey soaring in the blue skies above. Before leaving the mountain after an exhilarating walk in the wilderness why not stop off at the Val De Poldros mountain Restaurant. An experience never to be forgotten. Fantastic freshly prepared food by local chef, well known for taking you into the kitchen to choose your dish. Doesn't speak English but that's the fun part! No-one has ever left disappointed. Open for lunch or evening meals, dine out or in. Very reasonably priced.
We are equidistant to two old towns of Moncao and Medival town of Melgaco, a 20 min drive. Both have all the modern amenities, weekly markets, quaint shops,loads of cafes and restaurants to choose from, whether it's a cool beer, glass of wine or a 3 course lunch, enjoy soaking up the atmosphere while enjoying the warmth of the sun on your back. Kids wanting some excitement visit the outdoor swimming pools situated by the public parks with large play parks full of the latest equipment with exercise parks adjacent for the keep fit enthusiastic adults.

There is an old railway line running from Moncao to Valenca which has been resurfaced to provide a beautiful walk, ride (there is a riding centre just off the path) or cycle joining the two towns. It runs along the River Minho, flat and very scenic. There are picnic spots along the way with small cafes for that welcoming cool beer or ice-cream.
Beautiful city of Viana Do Castelo 65 min drive, Braga 80 mins and Porto 1 hr 45 mins. Another fantastic City to visit is Vigo on the coast in Spain at 40 mins

Golf: The Clube Golfe de Ponte de Lima is a popular 18-hole golf resort that is open to non-members, It is located two kilometres south of Ponte de Lima near the intersection of the N201 and the N536. This is a mountain course, covering six kilometres amongst mature chestnut, cork and English oak trees leading, through a ravine, to the Quinta do Anquiao, with fantastic views over the Lima valley. Hole 3 (par 5), at 622 metres, is the longest drive in Portugal and one of the longest in Europe.
Ponte De Lima golf course is highly recommended by golf enthusiasts.
Quinta da Barca golf resort (an hours drive away) is an excellent 9 hole course with fantastic views over the Cavado River. Par 31, 2012m.
Estela (1 & 1/2 hour drive away) is built on a 3km stretch of sand dunes and is one of the golf links that secured a great reputation for itself when it hosted two events in the European Professionals' Circuit. Par 72, 6129m.
