Have to love this place.
First the basics:
2 bedrooms each with Queen beds. Each bedroom has it's own full bath.
Den on 2nd floor with flat-screen TV and Full sleeper sofa.
Tucked in beautiful Capitol Hill, this restored Victorian has been painstakingly worked over every inch! Ground floor offers great seating space and a well updated eat in kitchen. There is even a heated/ air conditioned glassed -in back porch in which to enjoy your morning coffee year round, along with views of the other historic homes in the neighborhood.
The second floor features a master bedroom suite with private powder room. There is a unique shower in the hall that is original to the house's roots as a boarding house. There is a library/entertainment sitting area between the master suite and the second suite with a private full powder room. This entertainment area features a full size sleeper sofa. The second suite also has a heated/ air conditioned glassed- in upper porch with more views of the other historic homes in the neighborhood.
This renovated century old Victorian town house located in the historic district of Capitol Hill, in a well established and friendly neighborhood just off Lincoln Park, is within easy walking distance of the US Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Congressional Buildings, the Eastern Market and Union Station Metrorail (subway) stops and attractions, and it is one block from the City Bus lines. From the Capitol, it is about a ten to fifteen minutes walk to reach the Smithsonian Mall and its Museums. This downtown neighborhood location, convenient to the monuments, memorials, and museums, as well as to government and business, is equally appealing to the tourist and to the business traveler.
The historic neighborhood is home to Eastern Market, which is a landmark in itself and has been operating for over 100 years. There are second and third generation family operated open food stalls inside and on the weekends it has an outdoor flea and antique market, a farmers market, and an arts and crafts market. Capitol Hill with its town homes with flower filled front yards, and its tree-lined streets with interesting and unique shops and neighborhood café and restaurants, offers a friendly, small town flavor and atmosphere, yet it is right in the heart of downtown, Washington, DC.
I love hosting people in my homes in DC. My brothers and I have been providing vacationers comfortable accommodations since 2011. I wanted to create a special business handling exceptional and interesting properties. It is my goal to provide properties that create a magical and whimsical setting while you are in Washington, yet provide the services people need that have busy lives that follow them when they travel ...
Cliff Palermo purchased this townhome in 2013
This location is full of History and is at the seat of world power. It allows easy access to the great historical sights of Washington as well as the business center.
This particular property provides a wonderful experience for someone that really wants to experience a Washington neighborhood and a decidedly American way of life. Many people have stayed at this property from around the world and have been charmed by the special jewel that it is.
The home is a destination in itself. Beautiful objects everywhere you turn. Every convienence one could need. We had family from 83 to 11, we all loved the home and would highly recommend it.
Enjoyed our time at the house immensely. It had all the comforts of home, an incredibly well stocked kitchen (although the stove's burners need a little maintenance), a very relaxed, homey atmosphere. There isn't anything that comes to mind that I would add to make our stay more comfortable. The only negative was the location. Although close to downtown, not close enough, plus it was about a half mile walk to the Metro. I suppose if it were 70 degrees everyday it would have been okay. However, with 40 degrees and even 30s with snow one day, any walk to public transportation was too much. Again, the house itself was wonderful! Highly recommend for those who rent a car (we didn't want the hassle or expense of finding parking or paying for it on a daily basis) and those who don't mind walking a bit.
We stayed at the property for four days; we were two adults and a teen. The property had character and was warm in a cold winter. The position was great; an easy walk to the train station and from there easy access to the museums and memorials. There is a small shop with an ATM just across the road towards the station.
We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to friends. It was clean and well appointed.
The only problem we had was the washing machine having problems but Cliff responded very quickly and pleasantly to the situation.
My wife & I rented this property for 5 days in October 2014. We have stayed in this area of the Capital Hill District a number of times. Likes: Location, excellent! Close to Eastern market. A short walk to Metro station and to Barracks Row. Nice quiet neighborhood. Not as excited about the layout of the property. Upstairs has a nice 'front' bedroom. The 'back' bedroom is very small. There is a shower along the wall that you step in and out of right into the upstairs sitting area. There is another tub shower in the 'back bathroom' but is not as functional. There is a bathroom off the 'front' bedroom. Washer/dryer combo upstairs, 1st floor has a living/dining room that has older antique chairs/tables that we did not utilize at all. Kitchen has 'nook/bench' seating around a circular glass top table. Dishwasher was a good feature. Small TV in kitchen. Large TV upstairs. LOTS of Knick/knacks hanging/sitting around the place. To us...too much stuff. Did have a good library with good reading available. If staying in a property with lots of 'stuff' is your thing, this is for you. If you are looking for a functional property with a simple layout, this would not be as good a fit. Property mgt team were EXCELLENT...no problem in response or contact response...one of the tops in this regard.
Loved it! My 3 daughters loved the charm and intrigue of the property. There were many interesting items for them to look at. The house itself if very well appointed and there was not an item that was not provided. The upstairs sleeping was great, as we were able to spend time downstairs, separate from the clutter or clothes and bags.
We really liked the location. Coming from Australia, we had heard negative comments on Washington neighbourhoods. This area was great. Nice restaurants just a few streets away and convenience shops down the street. A short drive for us to get to union station where we joined a tour bus to take us around the city.
One word of warning - the rear parking fits a minivan in easily, however do not attempt to continue on to exit out the rear laneway. I tried this once and couldn't fit. I needed to reverse out of the laneway to a wider part and turn around and drive out the way that I entered.
Do yourself a favour and stay at this place!
We really enjoyed our stay at Vintage Goodies in Capitol Hill! Uniquely decorated and spacious, we couldn't have asked for a nicer rental located near a nice park and within walking distance of Eastern Market! Would most definitely stay here again!
