Gorgeous apartment - fantastic view
Vacationing from Norway to visit student son and celebrate my 50th birthday, we couldn't have found a better place to stay. In stead of repeting everything, we can just say that everything written before is absolutely true! Barbara is a gem, the apartment is a found, and the view is spectacular. 9 days were not long enough, I could live here:) After being quite a bit disappointed with the apartment we rented for the first week with the children, it was a relief and extra pleasant to stay here for the last 9 nights. We experienced by chance Columbus Day in North Beach, when the streets were closed to traffic and the italians celebrated their heritage with parades and dining 'in the streets', it was fun to watch. Lots of nice restaurants in North Beach, however, also try Zarzuela on the corner of Union and Hyde, a wonderful spanish place - we had paella, it was delicious. We also loved the food at NOPA, especially our kids, since it is modern and a bit hipster, however it's very popular, so reserve a table in advance online. For my birthday celebration we went to Fleur the lys, and it was absolutely fantastic, from the greetings, through the top notch meal, until Chef Hubert Keller waived us goodbye outside. A beautiful, posh little lunchspot on Union Square is the cafe on the top floor of Neiman Marcus, and Hubert Keller's Burger Bar on the 6th floor in Macy's is also worth a visit. To round off 'the restaurant reviews', I also have to mention that we had dinner and tropical drinks with my son and his room mate at The Tonga Room in the beautiful Fairmont Hotel. That was a different and fun experience! We tried to have Sunday champagne brunch at Top of the Marks, however, reservations are needed. The only tiny little minus, was that we rented a Mustang, and since the garage spot Barbara could provide was only for small and compact cars, we had to find parking in the streets. I.e. we didn't, so we found this really nice, young guy that had 9 parking spots he rented out close to Columbus Ave, next to an Irish pub. Luckily that was only for 4 days, so the remaining days we walk up and down the hills and loved it. We didn't get to see the parrots on Telegraph Hill, however, we saw them on the top of Taylor and Filbert, where we also could admire several humming birds:) Our San Francisco stay couldn't have been better, and staying here was a big part of it. Thank you so much - If we ever come back - hopefully we will - we know where to stay!:)
